  1. Finally installed new retrofit headlights. Couldn't be happier!
  2. So I finally got the new headlights installed today. Taking the bumper off was much easier than expected, and everything went pretty well. I'm very excited with how well this project went, especially this being my first retrofit. They may not be perfect but it makes it that much better knowing I did this myself. Below are the pictures I have right now...I'll try to get better ones later on. I'll also update once I get a true night driving experience with the new lights. Thanks to anyone who gave some quality tips on this. Please ignore the chipped paint on grille in the last pic...the auto body shopped did a shitty job and I'm making them redo the entire thing once Spring hits.
  3. From the album: 08 Black Edge SEL

Please ignore chipped grille...getting fixed soon.
  4. Yeah, that's why I always shyed away for the past 3-4 years...but now I have more money and I could do the whole thing for under $400...and if it sucked then I could at least sell off the projector kit. Since you have a 2015, it would be much harder to find a cheap set of headlights to work with. I would never trust myself working on the current headlights because you never know what could happen...even if you are an experienced fabricator. I basically had zero fabrication experience so this was just a fun project for me to see how it turned out and to see if I could do something similar in the future when I really need to. It is definitely fun seeing how it turns out though. The Mini H1 kit is extremely easy to work with (in terms of minimal cutting). I couldn't imagine trying to do an FX-R install or anything like that...I wouldn't even try it, based on my experience level.
  5. Sealed up the lights yesterday and tested them out this morning. Everything seems to look good and now I have to find time to remove the bumper and get the install complete. Hoping to have it done soon before a road trip.
  6. Thanks for the recommendation. I started a thread in that section so I can post pictures once its all done without flooding this thread. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/21481-cmillz1331-2007-2010-hid-projector-retrofit/
  7. So I decided to do a projector retrofit for a fun Fall project...My goal was to get some experience before doing a motorcycle headlight retrofit next Spring. I was able to find a spare set of headlights on eBay for a good price. I ordered the Mini H1 projector kit from TRS. I stuck with the standard Mini Gatling shrouds since I knew they would fit in the housing, and I wanted to keep cutting to a minimum on this project (1st retrofit attempt). I started this build on a Tuesday...I baked the lights and got everything separated and cleaned up the best I could. Then on Wednesday and Thursday, I did all cutting (actually easier to use a belt sander than a dremel) to the reflector bowl and epoxied any parts that needed to be amended (too much cutting on 1 bowl, 1 broken trim around turn signal, and I sealed both bulb holes in high beam portion). So today (Friday) I am finishing up painting and clear coat on all parts so they can fully cure and settle over the weekend. Then on Monday morning, I will assembly the lights together, test the beam pattern and make the adjustments. I'll recheck the adjustments on Tuesday morning, and if all is good...I'll have sealed headlights ready to go by next Wednesday! Then hopefully I can install on vehicle by that weekend...but we'll see. I'm not going to do a full write-up since there have been a few here and there, plus most have moved on from the Gen1 Edge anyways...But I'm posting all pictures below (after completion) of the progress. If someone has any questions, please feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer and help out. Thanks!
  8. Made some really good progress today on the retrofit...Disassembled both headlights and did all necessary cutting to the reflector bowls. I had to use some epoxy on one reflector bowl (cutting error), and one headlight trim (small crack). But both should be good tomorrow after it cures, I'll sand it down and paint them. Have the other headlight trim and both shrouds drying with the first coat of paint right now. Played around with projector fitment and how I'm going to run the solenoid wiring (I may be able to use the hole created by the removed reflector piece, which would be great! Taking pictures as I go, not going to do a full write-up since there is a few on here plus most have moved on from the Gen1 Edge anyways...but I'll post all pics to my profile when done. Hoping to have everything done, cleaned, and sealed by Friday afternoon! Probably won't have time to install on vehicle for a week or two though...
  9. That is an option....going to talk to one of my guys at work today...he's a fabrication genius, so I'd like to see what he would recommend if I were to seal up the high beam section...after that, I can better make a decision.
  10. All parts for the projector retrofit were delivered today. Baked the lights when I got home from work and removed the lenses from both assemblies. It was actually very easy to remove (cleanup of permaseal not so much). I'll be taking apart everything else and doing the minimal cutting while I'm at work tomorrow, and maybe even start painting parts if I have time... Still debating whether I want to seal off the high beam area or run with dual high beams on each side...keeping the halogen high beam functional would stop me from being able to black out the assembly...Any suggestions?
  11. Just installed the replacement relay cube and that did the trick. The fog light on the same side ended up just being a little loose in the connection... I did order the projector retrofit kit from TRS and a few other build materials as well...was able to find a cheap, new set of headlights off eBay so if everything comes in by next week, I'm hoping to have the new headlights completed by end of October.
  12. Also been thinking about doing a projector retrofit for "fun" if I can find a spare set of 2007-2010 headlights for a decent price...anyone know of a good connection? I've obviously checked out eBay and places like that...nothing looks too good yet. Trying to find a good fall project.
  13. So I checked out the fuses and they were both good...replaced them both just for good measure. The driver's fog light seemed to pop on consistently so hopefully that stays true...if it does, then I'm leaning towards the HD relay fixing the driver's low beam issue. If fog light goes out again, I'm back to having no clue...
  14. I've been messing around with a lighting issue on the Edge now for about a week...my driver's low beam is not working (I have HIDs btw) and the passenger's side runs fine. I have a HD relay that has passenger running off of that, Driver's side is coming directly from stock power and relay. Early last week, I cleaned all connections and that seemed to help for about a day, then it was back to the same old issue. I have to try to fire the lights about 5-7 times before the driver's side finally comes on. BTW, I've replaced driver's side ballast with brand new and also switched bulb from other side. TRS is sending a new HD relay to see if that helps (I doubt it). Since then, I noticed 2 days ago that now the driver's side fog light is out (passenger still works). I'm going to check that today but there's no way that it's burnt out...It's an LED setup that only 1 year old... So does anyone have any ideas? I'm about to check the fuses but to my knowledge, there aren't separate fuses for the left and right side so I'm stumped...any help is appreciated.
  15. I'm not quite sure...all it said on the work report sheet was that the recall was done...I have to go back in once the parts are ready for the airbag recall, so I can ask some more questions at that time. Everything is running smooth, as it was before the recall, so I can't really elaborate more on it.
  16. Got the Edge back from the gas tank recall. Everything seems good. Didn't have an issue before so no difference that I can report...did notice that after a complete fill-up, there was a message that "calibration complete"...I'm guessing that has to deal with the fuel level sensor? I didn't get to speak with my service rep when I picked it up so I wasn't told anything. But all went well so no complaints.
  17. Just got the call that the parts associated with gas tank recall are in at the dealer...scheduled service for next week (was told it takes about half a day), will update once I get the Edge back and can take a look at the work!
  18. Had the rotors and pads replaced yesterday, which was much needed. Also had brake fluid flushed as I'm sure it hadn't been done in a very long time...also had Ford inspect for gas tank recall since I have an '08. The service rep told me that in Ohio, they have been instructed to now replace any tanks (and assoc. parts) since the parts are now more abundant. So the parts should be at dealer in a few days and then I'll drop off for install...I haven't had any problems but I'm not going to turn down a free, brand-new replacement on a car that's 8 years old ha
  19. I would definitely check for trapped water. I heard the same thing in my '08 near the front end. Almost sounded like sand/water. Ended up having a clogged drain and I then needed to replaced A/C fan.
  20. Finally got the TPMS reset! I found a tip on a F150 forum that stated when you switch between wheels after awhile, that the battery in other sensors may go into "hibernation". So I followed steps to wake them up haha so here they are... -Fill tires up to recommended pressure -Release pressure in all tires to 15-20 psi lower than recommended (I went from 35 to 20 psi) -Wait minimum 5 minutes before refilling back up to recommended psi -Train tires using key cycle and brake pedal method w/ learning tool (I placed learning tool directly below valve stem and had to move it around a couple inches) Worked perfectly and now no more light or annoying noise for me! Hope this may helps others down the road.
  21. Well it's good to know I'm not the only one with this issue...I've read it comes and goes for others but mine is constant. I'm just confused as to why it was fine for 2 days of city driving and then decided to come on randomly...I may have NTB run a sensor check (just to see if they respond back) when they do the final alignment on the wheels. I'll update with my answer, may not be till this weekend or so. I've also heard some say that TPMS sensors can go bad around 100k but these are sensors installed in wheels just over a year ago so they shouldn't be bad already. I guess we'll see....I don't mind the light, I just hate that annoying chirp at startup
  22. I did some research and I'm stumped. I'm not getting a low pressure warning but instead a " Tire Pressure Monitor Fault" but when I read the codes, none showed up. So I'm confused as to why no codes were thrown if the TPMS system and sensors are linked at all...
