Garmin eco Route HD obd bluetooth
Tacyon replied to jackdaniel's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Don't do it, you'll be sry. Consult the oracle of google - http://torque-bhp.com/wiki/Bluetooth_Adapters ALLLL the way to the bottom .... I to was looking to do this and quite exited when I learned that Garmin did this. However, a good idea was implemented badly in the form of a impotent BT adapter. If you're serious (why so serious?) about this ... Torque, android/iphone and one of the better BT adapters. IMO. -
2011 Edge: Teapot Whistle when Applying Brakes
Tacyon replied to PrinzII's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
do you talk to your self much ? :hysterical3: -
I would beg to differ with you Waldo. At least on one of your points. That "Electronic throttle delay" is really a myth" - It is probably true that there are programs built into the throttle mapping that work in tandem with the ECU towards a emissions regulations agenda. However, that does not explain cases where there are no emissions regulations or the TBW or DBW systems are developmental sandboxes whos goals are to work out the lag and make a DBW or TBW system seem as "real" as possible. With that being said, there are all kinds of oddities that are unique to DBW system that would have nothing to do with emissions considerations or fuel economy. But are simply developmental issues to be over come. I had never heard of a sprint booster before and my first reaction was one of "snake oil". I wanted to investigate the "how it does it" and "what is it doing to claim that". Both of which appear to be guarded design secrets. Electrical signals are nearly instant. The systems that generate them are not. For this to simply be a "sooner" "faster" device, it would have to predict when I'm going to depress the pedal and do it before I do ! It can't know this until the pedal tells it so. (me depressing it) so there either has to be something else going on, OR its snake oil. Either way, delay or lag is not a myth.

New My Ford Touch Software Released
Tacyon replied to mmcclure's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
copied from other thread .... and this will be the last. Did some quick research on this - appears legit. (trust but verify - :shades: ) However, your mileage may very. Since this is a TSB your local dealership may not want to install the update unless you can prove you're having one of the covered issues. (I've read) Also, if you have NAV - the update will make necessary a new A4 NAV card. If you do the update and don't get the card, you'll not have NAV operation. (I've read) Most are reporting increase in speed from screen to screen. Others are reporting control of the climate control is back (hmm never lost mine) Reports of radio presets staying but Sirius presets go MIA. One person reported all their custom wall papers disappeared. Personally, I think I'm going to take a wait and see on this one ... my MFT has working nearly perfect but could benefit from a speed boost. -
It'd be nice if it would do something simple like upload the album art and name, track info, and artist. Just saying.

No .. not all the way. It drops it about 30-40% and then does kind of read it at natural speech pace. But because its "her" she is a bit harder to understand than the other "her" (wife) Or maybe I just listen 2nd one better. Anywho ... if you turn down the main volume to 0% and then listen to the text, you'll still hear her at the same level as before only now with nothing else at the same time.

Well I had a nice surprise on the way home this evening. My work phone was a DroidX that had served me well. I had rooted it and was using a custom ROM. Much faster and total control. The one thing that it couldn't do was display a caller's picture or read me text when I received one. Well ... the "back" key was dysfunctional 90% of the time and I requisitioned a new phone - The Verizon Razr Maxx (not HD - yet) running Android 4.0.4 (aka - ice cream sandwich). I'd already paired it days ago and at the 2nd or 3rd time I entered the vehicle and it auto connected, I happened to notice a notice on my Maxx .... asking if I wanted to allow BT to use a specific protocol. Which I answered "hell yeah" So .. I'm driving home I hear this new tone, look down and see ... New Message on the right hand dash screen. READ ? ... ah yeah. And MFT proceeds to read me a text message !!! Ok this is kind of cool. It this works now .. do the contact pictures also now show up? And they did .. BOOYA ! I have full phone integration with MFT !! So - Motorola Razr Maxx (Android v4.0.4) works fully with Edge MFT.

Limited in HOUZE representin !!! Booya ! I like the limited better than the sport. Did you get the adaptive cruise control ? I've got a Limited, 302A Rapid Spec loaded + towing. IMO, simply the best.

What are people towing with there EDGE's
Tacyon replied to ErikB's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
Another concern should be breaking ... the Edge is already a fairly heavy vehicle. I've operated vehicles that were loaded beyond their breaking capacity. You DO NOT want to do this, much less with your family on board. I would say that if your towed vehicle is at or below the 3500lbs .. you're good. Manufactures usually build in a "safety". As far as not being able to get it out of the whole, well, that can happen to anyone. I've watched full sized F250/2500's do nothing but get pulled in. And I've watched a Jeep pull a 25' cruiser out. It just depends on the surface conditions, (concrete, blacktop, other ??, rough, smooth, wet, etc) and the angle of the boat ramp. Bring a tow strap and hope there are nice people around ! -
wow ... reading this thread was killing me. I'm like Arnold Horshack in the back of the class "OH OH OH OH .. pick me, pick me" ... back when I worked as a grease monkey, aluminum rim leaking was a common occurrence. To fix this we'd dismount the tire from the rim. Used a rubber cleaner which basically amounted to acetone and cleaned the tire bead area off. Vigorously wiping it off. Some times this would take a fair amount of elbow grease to get it "virgin". Then we'd use a fine wire wheel on a air die grinder and clean the bead seat on the rim. Then clean with the solvent again when done. The key here is to get the two surfaces as clean and free of debris as possible. (so far not telling any one anything they didn't already know) But now for the secrete sauce. And I'm sorry I don't have the product name but it was black, shinny, liquid, rubber, adhesive and the applicator looked like a large cotton ball on the end of a wire stick attached to the button of the lid. We'd mount the tire but not seat it yet. Apply a liberal amount of this black liquid to the rim's bead seat area and then to the tires bead itself. Let it set up about 5 minutes and then seat the tire. Never had one come back prior to the next tire replacement. The problem is that aluminum if its not coated (protected) properly this will oxidize. (aluminum's version of rust). Once this happens the aluminum gets porous at the point of oxidation and you're fighting a uphill battle. I've also head other techs treat it like it a aluminum surface to be painted which mean a acid etching primer and then a good heavy coat of paint on the rim's seat area. Any one see a problem with this . that is right.. cost. Go out and get a set of rims with a good track record coatings and no tire seating issues. .. and that is all I'm going to say about it .... (in my best Forest Gump voice)

Yea .. not that it matters ... but great minds ... I was thinking in the gap between the mirror and the housing ... but I see you've located the "correct" part. p.s. oh and nice framing btw !

2013 Remote starter
Tacyon replied to blockisle9's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Lock - start - start. Doesn't matter what status the door locks are in... you HAVE to press lock-start-start. Don't hurry it. Now with that being said ... be careful of how soon and how fast you're pressing those buttons. The system can get confused fairly easily. ex: I think this was I did frustrated mine (and myself) remote start, press the start two more times .... now try to start it again with the lock-start-start. Mine ignored me and I had to wait few minutes (while I scratched my head) and then tried again. -
Shift to Park Warning when it's in Park
Tacyon replied to AmyLovesHerEdge's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
there most likely is a sensor (switch or solid state sensor) that detects when the transmission is in park .. it's either come lose or has failed.... either way it's a dealership thing to replace. but I'm not telling you anything you probably hadn't already thought. -
What Color (Colour) is your Ford Edge or MKX?

Metallic Earth -
3 months and 17.5k on my 2011, LTD AWD 302A rapid spec, as Ron White says ... "Loooooooaaaaaaaddddddded!" Besides the MFT being slightly we-Todd-did, it's technology is exceeded only by the synergy I have with it !

That is just great ... you get Siri working with MFT and they'll be talking to each other and never shut up. The real problem is that Siri will tell MFT that she is having a good day and MFT will look for music by green day or possibly route you to green bay, wis ! (did you know you could say things like .... )

USB Broadband Modem Anyone?
Tacyon replied to Mark_E_Bye's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Far less trouble and more functionality (take it with you) to just use a MyFi .. those little credit card sized AP's with WWLAN. Verizon data plan and toss it in the center console under the radio but the charger port .... MFT and any one in the Edge can connect and use. Then ... toss it in your shirt and it's usable for the train ride into the office. IMHO -
they really could make it so much easier on themselves (and us) if they had a few computer geeks in house. There are tons of free PC apps that do all of what we're talking about here. 1/10th of those ideas incorporated into MFT could make it a better system. I also noticed on my MFT that when you have the genre/album displaying on the main screen .. if you press the left arrow on the right steering wheel pad and look at the right hand display, you'll see your track/artist info .. kind of stupid to me to have to look at one screen for part of the info and another for the rest. But I can see how a automotive engineer might think that makes sense.

Assuming that the wheel is still on the vehicle .. there are two possibilities. 1) that the nut is spinning on the wheel stud. (this is the better of the two outcomes). 2) that the stud is spinning in the wheel hub. (very bad - pay someone to do it.) In the case of number 1 (happened to me) I was able to knock the decorative cover off the nut exposing the center and top of the stud. From here I was able to knock it out of the nut and out the back side of the hub with a drift pin. I was very lucky that it went down like this. There is enough room to remove a stud from the hub while still attached on most cars. But in the case where the stud is spinning in the hub, the nut will have too much hold on the stud and you'll not be able to knock it out. You'd have to cut the back of the stud off and pound it outwards or drill out the center and pray. I will caution you about this. There is no TRY.. only do. If you start and the stud gets out a little bit on the back side ... and you fail to totally remove it, you'll not be able to drive the car anywhere as the stud will most likely bind on the bearing carrier assembly. As was the case with mine. Either way .. I like Drew's recommendation of take it back to the last yutz's who cranked it down so tight as to strip what ever got striped.
