Added Some Color To The Interior
normcloutier replied to livinonthedge's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
What are you using for the ambient light kit? Ford decided to take the lighting out of the 13 SEL so I am looking to add something aftermarket. -

So the ratio has nothing to do with the wheel size but rather more with performance? If that is the case, then that would explain why my speedometer is accurate even with the larger wheels. If the higher ratio means less fuel economy, then I'm glad I have 3.18. I am only getting 400 km per tank in the city. With a light foot too. Thanks to all.

The Limited I drove today has the exact same wheels as my SEL.
-
The Limited was AWD so that's not it. It only had 40km on it where my SEL has 1600. I have driven pretty conservatively during this break in period and in fact only brought myself to flooring it about a week ago. Has the adaptive transmission adjusting itself to my wimpy driving? I read a few posts about the tranny and am still unclear if it adjusts itself to your driving style or simply provides the same shift feel over the life of the vehicle.

Hmm. I appreciate your response. Not sure that would be it. The Limited had a Vista roof and that in itself would be much heavier than the difference between the weight of the 20's over the 18's. The Limited would be heavier overall so the result should have been the opposite. I wonder if the Limited was just FWD. I'll have to find out.

I have a 13 Edge SEL AWD that came from factory with 18" wheels. The 20" chrome 5 spoke fork looking ones that I wanted were only available on the Limited so I had the dealer swap them out after arrival. From factory,18" wheels have a 3.16 gear ratio while 20" have 3.39. Because mine were not factory, I have 20" wheels with a 3.16 gear ratio. I had my edge in for some touch-ups today and was given a Limited to drive and there was a noticeable difference in zip on the Limited. The Limited seemed more responsive and quicker. I'm not sure if it's a downshifting issue or simply wheel size. I found an online tire comparison tool and when I input the info on the 2 different tire sizes, the difference in circumference was minimal. My speedometer is bang on within 1 KM/H at 110 KM/H with the 20's so either the factory wheels would have made the speedometer very inaccurate or something else is afoot. Has anyone else experienced this by switching tire size? Since my 20's were on the vehicle when I took delivery, I had nothing to compare it to. Downshifting when pressing on the accelerator in the Limited seemed to occur way easier than my SEL. Sometimes I feel like I nearly have to floor my SEL before it downshifts.

I previously used "Super Clean" cleaner/degreaser to clean the tires on my older vehicle. Works like a charm. Simply spray on then rinse with pressure washer and tires look nice and black. I am hesitant to try it on my 13 edge for fear of it ruining the 20" chrome clad wheels. Being plastic chrome, I would think that it should be ok but it' says corrosive on the bottle Wondering what other Canucks are using to clean their tires or if anyone uses this product?

Are you planning to find out the sex of the baby? My wife and I didn't want to know for both our children. We wanted that as lifes little surprise. If you don't want to know, let the tech know before hand. Not so important at first but obviously later in the term when it will show up on the screen. Best wishes.

I have had my 2013 SEL for a month and love it. I had set up the text messaging with my BB9900 when I first got the Edge and it worked fine. Would sound a tone and notify that I had received a text. I could have it read out loud which is cool. All of a sudden, it stopped working. Dont get any indication that I have received a text other than the phone itself beeping. Any suggestions?

I know this post has nothing to do with EDGE but in light of all the talk about LED DRL's, I thought I would share this. I was in Vegas for a tradeshow last week and during the evening, I went to the forum shops in Ceasars Palace. Anyone who has been there knows that these are all the high end shops for people with alot of coin to spend. I am going up the escalator and what do I see down on the lower level, a very very well dressed and extremely attractive woman pushing a stroller. Hmmm you are saying. Not surprising seeing as that is the kind of person that would be shopping there. As she turns the corner and is now facing my direction, what do you think she has on the front of the stroller? A pair of Daylight 4's. Must be a Mercedes stroller and be powered by some 12v battery system. Now she must have money to burn. I tried to get back to the lower level to get a picture but by the time I got all the way back down, she was gone. I would have liked to see what she was driving!

Which bulb did you get from V-LEDS? There appears to be 5 different ones listed for 921 back-up lamps.

Anyone do this mod yet? Lots of crap LEDs online. Wondering what lamps were used and where they were sourced?

Not sure if you are interested in the ambient lighting but it is not available on the SEL I found that out AFTER my 13 SEL arrived.

Wow. Excellent responses. Thanks to all that replied. I was sitting on the fence about this weighing both sides to these arguments. In the end, I did get the extended warranty but at a family and friends price which was $700 less than what was first offered. I am normally the one who doesn't get extended anything included package policies, glass deductibles, etc. My reasoning for going with the extended warranty was the sheer level of technology on this 13 edge, the few known issues and of course the great price. I can't imagine what it would cost to replace an instrument cluster or MFT out of warranty. We had to replace the instrument cluster on a 06 freestar from work. The dealer even got a used one from salvage and the total bill on was over $600. I keep vehicles for a long time. Had my Honda CR-V for 11 years. It had knobs and buttons. Not much to go wrong there. I'll note that I chose the 84 month/120k ultimate warranty. Hopefully I made the right decision. We'll see in 7 years.

I am looking for a clear protective film to put on the moulding at the bottom of the rear door opening. The moulding is about 12" x 4". I have 2 young children who need to step on the moulding in order to climb up into the back seat. Looking for something to keep the moulding from getting scratched.

Took delivery of my 13 edge yesterday. Fabulous vehicle. Did a factory order so I could pick all the items that I wanted and not be limited by what was on the lot. I was quite surprised and dissapointed when I took the family out for a drive last night and went to turn on the ambient lights and couldnt find them on MFT. Turns out they are not available on the SEL. The dealer had given me a 12 SEL to test drive and it had amb lights which I liked. When I was building the edge, there was no option to select amb lighting so I assumed it was standard. Wrong. So just a heads up for anyone looking to buy a 13 SEL. If you want ambient lighting, you need to upgrade to a limited. Too bad. I really liked that feature.

I picked up my 13 edge yesterday. When I got to the dealership to do the inspection, they had the edge in the dimly lit service drive thru. I had them move it outside and even though it wasn't sunny, the lighting outside was way better than inside. I found a few items that needed attention like a scratched front skirt under the bumper. The piece will have to be replaced. Glad i saw that otherwise it would be passed off for a bump into a parking curb. Other spot I would recommend looking at which most may forget is the headliner. Had a couple marks where someone had touched the room with something and left a mark. I brought along a small flashlight to help inspect darker areas and that really helped. Dealer is going to correct all the items I found next week. Took my time and glad I did.

Finally getting my 13 edge tomorrow. Anything in particular to watch or look for in the delivery inspection? Its going to be raining all week so it will be an indoor inspection. Hopefully under the detailing lights though.

Thanks to all who took the time to respond. I appreciate all the replies. I'll add that I have a lifetime powertrain warranty from the dealer and that I can still purchase the extended warranty up until the expiration of Ford's 3 yr/60,000k. It wil just be more expensive then as opposed to if I purchase it now. Keep the opinions coming!

My new edge arrived at the dealer on Friday. I will be picking it up on Tuesday. Going to be a long few days wait. I would appreciate some opinions on the extended warranty on whether you have purchased it or not and why.

Ask A Professional Detailer?
normcloutier replied to CanuckG35's topic in Appearance - Detailing, Wash & Wax
My new black edge should be here in a couple of weeks. The dealer has the usual Tricore paint and fabric protection bundled with the powertrain, tire amd theft recovery packages. I widdled the sales manager down in price to where the paint protection they offer doesn't really cost me anything so I have a few questions. Should I let them do the paint sealant and see how it turns out? General concensus on the forum is that it's inferior. If it bites, I'm not out any money and can have a pro detailer re-do it. If it needs to be redone, is it harder to do now because it's sealed? Second, does eshine carry any starter detailing packages? I cant seem to find any on their site like on the Detailed Image site. I'm in Canada. Lastly, I have my black 97 CRV that I'm trading in that needs some paint TLC. I would like to practice on it before attempting anything on my new edge or my wifes black BMW. If I am ordering items from eshine, what should I get and what should be done? -
Does anyone know if Canadian models are shipped with synthetic oil? Living in the cold north, I was going to use synthetic oil in my yet to be delivered 2013 edge. My question is, when should I change over to synthetic? Right when the vehicle arrives or in the fall before it gets real cold? Obviously the extreme cold viscosity of synthetic is a plus for when you can't plug your vehicle in overnight but are there other pluses/minuses to using it over conventional oil?

My new edge should be here next month and I am considering installing mud guards (or flaps as we northerners call them) on the front at least. The rear bumper has somewhat of a lowered moulding behind the wheel that may help in the back. Did anyone install the ones from the dealer? They are essentially just a flat piece of rubber but would help to keep rocks and mud off the side of the vehicle. Any after market moulded ones available?

I really like the look of the 20" chrome wheels and I'm torn between odrering the 18's or the 20's. Does anyone who lives in cold/snowy areas use their 20" factory tires in winter or do you swap them out for snow tires? If I have to get another complete set of wheels and tires to use in winter, I'll probably stick with the 18"'s. Any more comments are GREATLY appreciated. Especially any cold weather/snow experience with factory tires.
