^ I could not agree more. What a great point you make!!!! As a cop I get to see more accidents then most except maybe tow truck drivers and our EMS crews... It never fails to amaze me that every year when we have our first few inches of snow, all the 4x4's are upside down, and off the sides of the road as the cautious drivers afraid of getting stuck in the snow putt putt by a slow and careful pace. As for the driver of the FWD Edge, yes he said he was going to fast, didnt realize that the rain was sleet and that it had begun freezing to the road surface... a little too much understeer and some black ice and he was off the road. Cant say whether or not he would have been bailed out by AWD, but the more I thought about it, and the more I thought about absolutely HAVING to get to work in the ABSOLUTE worst case scenario, the more I figured that its worth it for me to give up a few MPGs for having AWD. Ill still probably never really need it, but ill spring for it. The fiancee feels a little better about it as well.

someone is looking for 20"s in the classifieds, post them up there.

Well here's a kick in the ass for you. We ordered a FWD Edge after driving in a friends FWD Limited. Last night during some light sleet our friend slid off the road and totaled his Edge (no one injured). After talking to him today on the phone I immediately called my Ford Dealer and let him know were looking for an AWD instead of the FWD. If he cant locate one locally he'll just change our order. Im figuring that in the next two years ill have small children so the extra bit of sure footed assurance on slippery roads will be good. Who needs AWD? Maybe this guy, who's going to be married and plans to have a family before getting a different vehicle...

how many owner showing higher mileage are FWD vs AWD? Whats the true difference between the two?

What Color (Colour) is your Ford Edge or MKX?
Edgieguy replied to Edge Guide's topic in Exterior & Body
We chose the White Sand Tri-Coat. I love white. I think it looks really classy, elegant. Still dont understand why Ford hasnt created a diamond white like Lexus or even gone with their traditional Oxford White? We waited an entire year because we were'nt satisfied with the Creme Brulee.... Anyhow we thought the White Sand was the closest we would enjoy. -
We Ordered OURS! YEAH!!! WE GOT IT! WOOOT!!!!!

^ thats awesome....Im definitely going to get the VIN from the dealer so I can have someone track it. Im happy that we're getting our very own edge. Hope its not built on the day after the long Christmas weekend after the plants been shut down and everyones still hungover on Holiday cheer! LOL When the sales guy checked dealers for trades he first had three that matched pretty closely, then we had lunch came back to sign on one of them and he said that none of the dealers would trade for XPlan because they lose money in the deal??? I think the manager just wanted the dealership to order and deliver one. -
Any new news on this? Has everyone had their pulling issues fixed to their satisfaction?

Mount it inside your vehicle to the passenger sunvisor, plip the visor down and its viewable from the front of the vehicle. I saw this one pass in a traffic court in D.C. I thought that was crazy!

We live in the North East and we too decided that we didnt need AWD...so we ordered a FWD with a little bling (20"wheels)

Dont know... I owned a 92 ford f150, and now have a 05 Escape. Maybe a loyal customer coupon? Dont know for sure. It was sent out by my current dealer... has a picture of a new F150 on the front

Thats about it. Its very easy to tell when vehicles have retrofitted HID lights.. When some of us are car-guys too, it makes things easier. Its actually easiest to pass someone the opposite way and be blinded by the lights to swing around and stop them for it... Believe me its a hassle for us too to go after people for dumb sh*t like this when there are bigger fish to fry, but when the govt putts out the safe driving grants to pay for the holiday patrols for this stuff, DWI, stops, Walk safe patrols thats your duty to find these violations.... such is our system

You can always look at katzkin.com they make replacement headrests that look like OEM and have DVD players in them.

Katzkin.com, they also own leatherseats.com I had them do the interior on my MR2 when I was restoring it. OEM quality, and a huge selection of what you can do. Suede inserts? Perforated leather? heated? cooled? you pick the color combos, stitching, material combos, and then if you would like to add heat cooling or both. Great company, great product.

Funny to find this thread tonight. Im a police officer and we just had a meeting with a rep from the state police today regarding the holiday season and the states safe driving campaign. HID lights were right up there on the list of things the DOT has passed down to the state, county and municipal levels that it would like to target. The articles were very informative, so many thanks for posting that. All I can say is please consider others safety when modifying your vehicles. Hope everyone has a safe holiday season

"So we ordered out X-plan Edge yesterday. We got a White Sand Limited AWD with Charcoal Interior, BAMR, and 20" wheels with the sport suspension, and all weather mats. We already have a portable sirus radio we can plug into the Sync system, Thankfully we're able to open and close a rear liftgate by ourselves, and we just bought a Tomtom GPS so there was nothing else for us to consider. Pretty simple really, So I was really surprised that the dealer could not locate one close enough to North NJ to trade with another dealer??? Do you think there's any incentive for a dealer to order a vehicle rather then trade a dealer for one? Maybe they didnt even really check? Now the wait has started.... " YEAH!!!!!! 12/30/07 UPDATE>>>> WE GOT OUR EDGE LAST NIGHT! TOOK A LOT OF TIME IN THE DEALERSHIP BUT WE GOT HOME IN TIME TO WATCH THE GIANTS LOSE TO NEW ENGLAND! Drove around all day today showing family and friends and we LOVE the new Edge. What a cool vehicle. Its such a step up from our 2005 Escape XLT. So nice. Tomorrow ill get to report on the AWD traction of the Pirelli 20" tires on the slick slushy covered asphalt of Northern NJ.

So what was the outcome of the talk with the service manager? I've had a lot cars with altered/lowered suspensions for auto-xing and I've actually learned quite a bit about suspension geometry in that time. My question is this. Has anyone spoken to a qualified suspension tuner about the effects of lowering the Edge (either front or AWD)? Its just that there's A LOT of stress that pushed around a suspension system. For instance, the kingpin inclination angle changes at a rate multiplied by its original angle measurement when the car is lowered. This puts extra stress on wheel bearings and strut assemblies, not to mention changing caster/camber angles. Lowering any car, increases negative camber and decreases positive camber. Reducing caster also increases the angle. Raising the car does the exact opposite as you would guess. Im curious what your service manager said because I had the opportunity to speak with a service manager about this very topic only for Infinity, and he said there are certain parts (wheel bearings in particular) that are not high failure parts. When those go in a new vehicle, they look to see if the suspension geometry was changed due to different where marks seen on the suspension parts. Theyve actually had this a lot in the FX35 SUVs that people have lowered. I like the "look" of a lowered Edge, make no mistake... But I've also seen some weird failures of altered suspensions. Maybe someone with race experience or with setting up suspensions can chime in? I already posed the question to the guy who sets up my auto-x car and he could only guess that its not a good idea lowering an AWD vehicle. His quote was to the effect of "why would you add more stress to the suspension that is already seeing stresses from torque being delivered to those parts?"
