  1. Vent windows! I wonder what the last car with vent windows was.
  2. I usually have to play around to equalize things depending on how far down the window is and how fast I am going, but generally I have found that both front windows have to be open to some degree if a back window is lowered.
  3. Wow! This explains at least one of the inconsistencies between my personal "review" of my '12 Limited and the Consumer Reports review. I had no idea there were sound-deadening differences between models. Their review talks about "pronounced " road noise and I have never understood that. I only drove the vehicle I bought, not other trim lines.
  4. I think I have only done it once , but I hooked a bungee cord into one of the pockets on the bottom edge of the door. It held fine for me for the couple of miles between Lowes and home.
  5. Unless the door has tangible symptoms of being hard to close or not closing completely (won't latch, won't latch completely, visibly not closed all the way, etc), I would suspect the switch (not sure of the setup on our vehicle as it appears it is inside the door and not something external you can press to test). Slamming the door really hard just hurts other parts of the door.
  6. According to etrailer, the carrier that sits the farthest away from the car when folded is the DrawTite 6502. They say it sits 7.5" from the center of the pin when folded. This appears to be at least a couple inches more than other folding models. On my 2012 Limited with DrawTite hitch, it appears I have about 5.5" between the center of pin and the edge of bumper. Theoretically, I'll have 2" of space if I get that model. Now I just need to decide if I absolutely must get a folding model. If I do, it looks like it will have to be the 6502.
  7. I installed my 2012 within the first couple thousand miles and found the isolators to be a real pain to remove even using WD-40. Part of it was probably the lack of leverage on a creeper, but those things were a real hassle and what took the longest.
  8. I had a nice trip of exactly that distance this weekend. Averaging around 70, I got exactly 25 mpg in my 2012 with 5,500 miles on the odometer. I'm also happy it runs on regular gas.
  9. I have the Sony and it certainly sounds better than the stock system. It looks cool too. Sorry, but I can't give an audiophile review. Of course, it is easy enough to go to a dealer and try both out and compare with a CD of the type of music you like to listen to.
  10. Forgive me if this has been covered before, but I did try searching first. My 2012 Limited has the Intelligent Access key fob and I have found that especially during the summer when I have more in my pockets (no coat) that I accidentally set off my panic alarm fairly frequently. One time I was sitting in a restaurant thinking "who's the jerk with the car alarm going off" when someone called out, "anyone have a white Ford Edge?" I was unable to find a way to disable the feature, so I have taken care of the button itself. Since I am sure there are many others who have the same problem, I'll share the very easy fix. 1) To start, follow the instructions in the manual for opening the remote to replace the battery. 2) After removing the back, you'll see the circuit board with the buttons on the other side. Remove the silver trim piece by pushing the buttons while holding the trim. 3) Separate the rubber panel of buttons from the circuit board 4) On the back of each button is a round contact that coincides with a copper contact on the circuit board. Attach a small (large enough to cover the round contact but not large enough to interfere with other buttons or reassembly) piece of tape to the contact on the panic button. 5) Reassemble You have now easily deactivated your panic button in a way that is reversible by merely removing the tape. Time Elapsed: 2-3 minutes Downside: Panic button doesn't work Upside: Panic button doesn't work
  11. 2012 Limited. Happens here too sometimes.
  12. I'm talking about the engine cooling fan behind the radiator that is on pretty much whenever the AC is on. I've never tried the "auto" on the climate system except as it is programmed to come on with a remote start. I do look forward to a frosty car after work as the remote works from my office.
  13. Really? I'll need to pay closer attention being a newer owner but I could have sworn that if the fan is on and I turn off the AC the fan goes off immediately.
  14. You don't need to, but I prefer to have the compressor run only when I want to to- cooling or defrost. Gas mileage would be the main reason, but extra wear on the applicable components is certainly another. Oh, and there's the tornado-sounding cooling fan that comes on too...
  15. The main reason I didn't even bother test driving an EcoBoost. Plus, even brand new I am getting way better mileage than my old MDX. Plus, the Edge uses regular gas.
