  1. I thought the same exact thing as you when I first got my Edge. But Dingo is right, its just the shutter moving. You wont notice it after a while, well at least I don't anymore.
  2. You could always plasti-dip them. That would hide all damage. Lots of fun colors out there lol
  3. I have had my type 1's in since April '12 and they are still working perfectly. I have never had any issues with them. At $25, the risk is very low. I would go for it! I think they were sold out of type 1's for a while.
  4. Yup, the SE models don't come stock with the lights. I'm not sure if its even an option for that model.
  5. I've never seen the bumper for your Edge, but the construction couldn't be that different from all the other Edge's. Here is a link for removing the bumper off of older Edge's.   7. Is there a reason you are going with vinyl instead of plasti-dip? Messing up and removing the vinyl to start again might be a tough process. I had my vinyl on for over 6 months before I took it off and it was pretty difficult and there was a lot of clean-up on the grill to do. IMO plasti-dip is much easier to install and cheaper. There is also a gloss option for plasti-dip.

    Yes, they are Plasti-dipped. I have a thread on how to do it with a Youtube video. If anything, it provides great winter protection on the roads.
  11. I hear ya. If you don't mind the color difference and you don't have any visibility issues, then an upgrade isn't necessary.
  12. Lights look great! I love my DTBL DRLs too! They are one of my favorite mods from Dan. On the topic of HIDs, if you don't want lights that are unbelievably bright, you can get 35w HIDs. One of the good things about HIDs is that you can color match them better to match your new DRLs. I think the DTBLs are 5000k temp and you can get HIDs that are the same temp. Just a nice feeling when everything looks like they were installed together. Your Edge is looking sharp and I hope you have fun installing more mods!
  13. Very cool. I'm happy you were able to work through it and find out what needs to be done. Wiring varies between years so it can be challenging sometimes, but feels good when you get it right. Your hard work is paying off and I hope your project turns out awesome. Are you installing these LEDs to work as ambient lighting or just additional lighting when entering the vehicle?

  15. I forgot to mention. If you are running a Sport, then it would probably be best for you to use the wrap. Your black grill is already black gloss or metallic gloss, so a glossy finish from the wrap would probably look better. Applying the wrap to the top chrome strip is probably the easiest part of the instillation. You could also buy black Plasti-dip and then finish it off with Gloss Plasti-dip. They have that out there to give Plasti-dip a glossy finish.
  16. I have used both the wrap and and Plasti-dip. I used the wrap first, didn't really know the best way to apply it. So we just laid it on without using a hairdryer. We bought enough and got everything covered, but it was super pretty when you got up close to it. I didn't push the wrap into the indentions in the middle of the grill inserts. So when I drove bugs would hit it and split the wrap. In the end, I had a ton of holidays with silver showing through. I made the decision to take it off and Plasti-dip it. When I took the wrap off, it was a tough ordeal. It took about 40 mins or so to get the wrap off and it broke off in pieces. I will say this, no way the wrap is coming off on its own. When its on, its stays on. After we got it off, there was a ton of residue from the glue left on the inserts. Lots of scrubbing got that off. Then I dipped my grill, including my Ford emblem, chrome stripe above the headlights, and my wheels. It turned out really good and I am super happy with the finish. No cut or fold lines and an even finish. I put 4 coats on so it's nice and strong. I have put the car through the carwash and it has upheld like a champ. It has been great protection during this winter and on the Autobahn. I would absolutely recommend Plasti-dip over the wrap for three main reasons. 1) Application of Plasti-dip will be much easier than the wrap. 2) Removal of Plasti-dip is super easy, just peel it off. As long as your application is thick enough, it will come off smoothly. If your application is too thin, thats where it can get a little more difficult to get off. 3) Price. State-side, your looking at $~5-8 a can (obviously price will vary depending on where and when you buy). To Dip all your grill and wheels you will need between 5-7 cans to get about 4 coats on. Keep in mind that I plan to have more cans than I actually need. This is my opinion but I hope this helps your decision.

  18. To be honest, I did the mod several months ago so I don't really remember. It looks solid in the picture and its apart of the big bundle of wires. You will have to dig for it a little bit. I think there are only two purple wires in there. One thing to remember here is to not get frustrated. If you don't have a wire tester, they are super cheap and if you live in the states I'm sure you can buy it anywhere at anytime. Here is an example: http://www.amazon.com/Professional-6-12V-Circuit-Tester-Indicator/dp/B003UHNMMS/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1358538395&sr=8-7&keywords=wire+tester When I tested the wires, I would hold the tester on the exposed wire while the puddle lights were one and kept it on there until the puddle lights turned off. The tester bulb will stay on until the lights go off. Thats how you know you have the right one.
  19. Looking good King. I'm looking forward to those other pics too. If you have a decent camera, try getting a pic where you can change the settings so we can see a good shot of the LEDs installed. I just put in an order with White and can't wait to get mine installed. I like that each light set he produces is unique to each owner.
  20. Yes, I think there are two purple wires. Do not use the purple/orange wire. Also, what year is your Edge? Mine is 2011. Wiring may vary according to year. If you have a voltage tester, you can make a small cut to expose the wire to see if you have the correct one. If you have to right one, the bulb in the voltage tester will light up when you activate your puddle lights and turn off when the puddles go off.
  21. Your wiring scenario is correct, positive to the purple wire and ground to a bolt, preferably bolted to the body of the car. As for the switch, it's definitely doable, but I'm not positive it would work with the puddle lights. When I was searching for that wire, I used a voltage tester and the bulb would only light up when the puddle lights were active. So that leads me to believe there would be no power going to it unless you unlocked your car or opened your doors. Another option might be to tap into the map lights or dome lights. You could potentially use the map/dome light button (located next to your headlight dial) to act as your switch if it is incorporated into that system. I have never looked at how that is wired, but I imagine its possible. Then you could just use the built in switch and the lights would come on and fade off when the other lights do. Just a thought. ---Break-- I was just thinking that it might be better to tap into your dome light instead of your map lights. If you tap into your map lights and are driving at night, it could potentially be a hazard for the driver if it is tremendously bright in the cabin. But if you tap into your dome light, then the LEDs would only come one when you open/unlock the door or if you hit the dome button (which the driver would be in control of and can anticipate it coming on).
  22. Your install looks really clean. Much cleaner than when I did mine, but I didn't know about the hair dryer technique. I recently took my wrap off and plasti-dipped everything. When I removed my wrap it left a sticky film all over the grill that was a pain to get off. Lots of scrubbing. It's amazing how a little chrome strip turned black can change the entire appearance of the vehicle.
  23. Found the pic in my photobucket. Its an option to consider as your lights will turn on when ever the puddle lights do.
