Audio formats supported?
redbirdpat replied to redbirdpat's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Thanks for your reply. I'm not really looking for a comparison of different formats. I'm trying to find a list of what formats Ford Sync supports (or Sony, depending on which is doing the decoding). I'm assuming from your reply that Ford Sync supports WAV lossless? I have many playback devices, so I'm looking to find the best "least common denominator" for all my devices. But for me to figure that out, I need a list of what Ford supports. I can't seem to find that anywhere. Anybody else know if there is a list somewhere of all the supported audio formats for Ford Sync? -
Is there a list somewhere of what audio formats are supported by Sync? Does it matter which radio you have (I have the Sony for my 2012 Edge)? I was hoping it would support FLAC, but I'm guessing it doesn't at this time. I am just trying to figure out the best format to convert my FLAC files to get the best quality I can on playback. Is there a list of the supported audio formats somewhere?

I do not like the new MFT update.

The thing that really makes that "Entertainment" label stupid is that it is redundant. We already know that is the entertainment tab. There are already 2 ways to figure it out. It's in the lower left quadrant and it's red. There's no reason to take away the song title and waste the space with a redundant label. I really hate downgrades with new software releases. -
Ford really, REALLY, screwed up the live traffic with this update. It's very hard to see now. It's probably there, it's just not pronounced like it was before. You now see faint green that almost blends into the map so you really can't see it. You would think Sirius would complain about this, because I'm sure many people will drop it, since it's almost not visible anymore. Ford really needs to fix this. This was quite a downgrade.

After driving with the update for a couple weeks, here's a couple of other issues that I found. I know this has been mentioned before, but the traffic flow is really hard to see on the maps. They really downgraded that functionality by making it less visible. They really need to fix that, especially since you have to pay extra/month to get that information. The other issue I found is with my playlist in shuffle mode. When I select a playlist on my iPod and then select shuffle mode, it will play and shuffle just fine. However, when I stop the car and unplug the iPod, then plug it back in when I get back in the car, it continues where it left off. However, the playlist now goes to shuffle album mode I think. It will start playing only songs from the same album on the playlist. Once it's done with that album, it picks another track from a different album and does the same. I can fix it by setting the shuffle mode to ALBUM, then setting it back to ALL. That will work until I shut down the car and disconnect my iPod again. So the Shuffle All setting does not stay set for me on playlists on my iPod. This functionality worked before the upgrade. -

Grrrr. Well, that's disappointing. Again, I still don't know why it's so difficult to show the correct title and album cover for a song. The iPod has been around forever. iTunes never screws it up. My iPod never screws it up. Why does Ford screw it up? I guess I'll just look forward to when mine gets messed up again. -

I also had the problem with song titles not matching to what was playing on my iPod. As was suggested by another user here, I reset my iPod to factory settings, then synced it with iTunes. That seems to have cleared up my track title problems, as well as album cover issues I was having. -

I reset my ipod to factory settings, and then re-synced. The albums I was having problems with now show the correct cover. However, I haven't played with it enough yet to see if there are any other track or album cover issues. I'm hopeful that fixed it. -

Thanks. I'll give that a shot too. -

I drove around a bit today after my installation, and here's what I found. As others have noted, the missing temp on the display was a major error IMO. The entertainment tab labeled "Entertainment" was also an error. I already know it's the entertainment tab. It's red. It's in the lower left quadrant. I don't need to be told what you've already told me. The current playing song should have been left there. Unfortunately my iPod experience is even worse with the upgrade. Before, I had some issues with maybe 25% of the album cover art being wrong. Now I have problems with more cover art and track titles being wrong. I was really hoping they would fix the iPod stuff. Unfortunately it's worse (and I used Sync My iTunes). I'm not sure why it's so difficult to just show the track name and album cover as it is in iTunes. This definitely should have been fixed, and am perplexed how they could have made it worse. There still is a delay when requesting a song and then it playing. I would say "play song whatever", and the voice would respond "playing song whatever". Then 5-10 seconds before it would start playing. Sometimes it still wouldn't recognize what I said, and I'd have to say it again. I think the voice recognition is a bit better, but still needs work. I think the rest of the changes are okay. The interface seems cleaned up a bit, which is nice. They did unnecessarily remove some useful information as stated before. But because they still can't even show a track title and album cover correctly for a standard iPod (which really should be simple in this day and age), I'm really not impressed with this upgrade. I use my iPod all the time in my car, so I'm very disappointed that the errors I had weren't fixed and made even worse. Perhaps I should just hit the master reset and have it reindex my iPod again. -

Just received the update and nav card. Took exactly 40 minutes to install. No installation problems at all. One issue I was hoping would be fixed was that not all of my album covers are displayed correctly. Unfortunately it didn't fix that issue. It's a minor annoyance, but it doesn't seem that complicated. I did check the settings to make sure it was using my media as a preference for album covers over gracenote. What happens with mine is that some of them show up with a cover divided into 4 squares, with a different "mini-cover" in each of them. It appears to select 4 random covers from my music and places it as the cover. Very weird. I guess I'll have to go through all the problem albums and maybe delete the picture it is using and try another one. Haven't had time to use it too much. Seems alright. Some things they took away I wish they would have left alone. But everything seems to be working in general. I'll probably know more as I drive it some next week. -
New Update? Nothing yet.

Well, the mailman came late today after I had checked my mail. Once I saw him leave, I decided to go check it again. But to increase my odds that he delivered the package, I intentionally left my phone and ipod in the house. If I had taken them with me, then it would have been guaranteed that it was not delivered. And sure enough it was there! So I had to go back in and get my iPhone and iPod. So there's a tip for you. Make sure that you aren't prepared to do the installation before you go check your mail. It drastically increases the odds of the package being delivered. Well worth it. :-) -

Still haven't received mine. I called and the rep I talked with said all of the U.S. packages were mailed out as of yesterday at 5:30 pm. He said he still didn't show mine as mailed in his system. He thought it would probably update in the system in the next couple of business days. He said everybody in the U.S. should receive their package within the next 2 weeks since the last of them were all mailed out yesterday. He said to call back in 2 weeks if I still don't have it and they will mail it to me (I have Nav, and my dealer doesn't have any, so I have to wait). -
My Ford Touch update Installed!!
redbirdpat replied to Candy Edge's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I think you are definitely in the minority. Most people look at it often. Time and temperature go together, and should always be available on the screen. That was definitely an error by Ford IMO. -
I've used google maps successfully to download an address. My only complaint is that I can only send one address at a time. If I send more than one, it only downloads the last one I sent. If I want to send more than one, I have to send one, download it to the car, then send another one later. I would think you could queue up at least 5-10 if you wanted to.
