Tinted front windows
Cdpratt69 replied to RJF25's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
I have that same issue. How did you get a legal exemption. In other words, how do I get one? I have very light colored blue eyes and I have to wear sunglasses on all but the darkest of days. I would like to get front done darker than the GA legal limit as well as the windshield and vista roof. I didn't even want the vista roof but it just happened to be on the AWD Edge Sport that had all the other options that I wanted. It is nice to have at night tho! Anyhow, how do I get exempted? -
I have Rockford fosgate component speakers T2 in both the front and back doors. In the front we just changed out the teeters with the stockers in the A-pillar. I put a much higher quality alpine in place of the center channel speaker on the dash. In the rear doors I had the tweeters put up high in the door plastic up above the handle and the 6.5" mid bass went in a bracket in place of the 5x7s in the door. The crossovers are in all four doors as there is plenty of room to mount them in there. We replaced the Sony amp with a Rockford Fosgate 4 channel higher powered amp, I changed out the crap speakers in the rear pillars and put in some apline mid-tweets. You don't have a ton of options for that location. Finally, we made a custom box in the space where the original sub was located and used a low profile pioneer sub on a briged fosgate amp which is located near where the factory Sony amp called home. Even though the sub is only a 10"' with the right amp it moves EVERYTHING in the car if I want it to do so. I can even get a massage while driving! All in all I spent about $1400 but the sound is worth every penny. It's like being at the damn concert! Everything looks stock so pics won't really do any good other than to show where I put the tweeters in the back doors. I doubt anyone cares for a pic of those.

Wx signs on the net has a ton of choices for covering up the emblems. I bought a three piece kit with a black background and rising silver colored flames. The kit came with an overlay for the front, back, and even the steering wheel emblems. Before the emblems I had people asking me who made the car and what kind it was. Now that happens just about every day. People have no idea what the Ford Edge Sport looks like. I was parked next to a 2007 model Edge at a gas station just this past week and the chick driving it asked me, "What kind of car is that?". I was thinking in my head....really?..wtf? You drive an Edge!! Sorry, all that was off topic. So anyhow, check out webextremes.com ands see if there is anything you like. They do have many overlay emblems for our beautiful Edges.

I went through this whole process back in December after I bought my SCT X3 from my Ford dealership. I had a custom tune done by a place down near where the SCT store is and it "burnt" out my ECU. I had to pay half the cost of the new one. I was pissed because SCT told me that it would work but it certainly didn't. It made my Edge unusable. It sucked. I'm not going with SCT until I am absolutely sure that the 2011 Edge Sport is fully supportable. You guys at SCT either need to stop telling folks with 2011 Edge Sports that your tuning device will work or get the damn strategies all programmed. People are spending lots of money and for the most part what we end up with is a very expensive OBD II code reader. Get your crap together please SCT.

Dingo, I'll give you as much heads up when I'm headed up your way so we can plan something. I'm glad you are able to get out and do somew piddling. I got cabin fever so bad after my lt surgery that I literally was having panic attacks. Once I sorted getting out of the house I was ok!

Dingo, how are you healing up now days? I'm going to be headed up your way next months and am wondering if you want to unleash a couple of bad ass Edge Sports and maybe go get a beer.

I'm 42 years old. I looked at the MKX and thought it was just too old feeling for me. I don't see being interested in the brand for my own needs for at least another 10 years. The missing HiD lights were easy to fix and fairly inexpensive considering what they used to cost in the aftermarket. I'm still shopping for a reasonably priced rearview mirror with the home link buttons. $300 is a little deep for plastic, glass, and a cheap remote control unit in my opinion.

I hope you understand that I was being serious when I said I appreciate the people who bought the first Edge models. Its hard to tell sometimes what exactly people mean on these boards. I was being honest. It was a gamble for you to buy the first edition and like I said, it led to all those sales and the Edge living on as a big seller for Ford. Personally, I wanted a Mustang but our other car is a 2011 Infiniti G37 Convertible and there is hardly any room for back seat passengers much less groceries or my monthly purchases at Home Depot. As much as I would have enjoyed a 540hp GT500 it just makes no sense to own two sports cars in my situation. The newer Edge Sport got my attention because it is honestly sporty for a SUV/Crossover and it has a really nice aggressive look to it, if that makes any sense. I parked it next to one of the new Porsche Cayenne CUVs yesterday and for the money I'll take the Ford. I am aware that the Cayenne is badass but the standard model is much more expensive than the Edge. I'll take the Ford for about $45k and enjoy all the extra cash I have leftover. I also enjoy owning at least one American made car and I feel good about supporting domestic production. (yes, I know many parts come from outside the US) I think the reason the Sport testing ended up with a slower 0-60 time is primarily the gigantoad and heavy 22" wheels and tires. I love the look of the wheels and they are what I get the most questions on when I'm out in the Edge. I can't count how many times Ive been asked where I purchased the wheels. They look great but they certainly slow down the Sport. I have been shopping for some light weight 20" wheels that will still give it the nice aggressive look. I have not found anything I'm in love with yet but I'm still looking. Anyhow, to clear things up...if anyone is interested, the SCT flash tuner can remove the speed governor. I have no idea what speeds the Edge Sport is capable of without the governor. I know for sure that it does not cut out at 110 but shortly after I was sure of that I let off the gas. It takes a lot of road to check out those speeds in just about any car. Thanks to all of you who have offered up your info or opinion on this matter. I really appreciate having this place as a resource.

My Edge is not "stock, off the lot". If you want a new one now then just go up and look at the 2012 Edge Sport. You will fall in love with it if you are already and Edge fan. It's not just the engine that makes it different. The interior is fantastic and the features are too long to list. I looked at used Edge models for my son before I decided to purchase a new one to replace my older Toyota 4 Runner. I drove several so I am very familiar with the ins and outs of the older models. I get compliments on my car on just about every trip I take where someone has the opportunity to speak with me, such as a gas station or car wash, etc. I knew my vehicle was limited to 110 MPH before I spent money on the upgrades. I would have done those things even had I known for certain that the top speed is limited to 110. We spoke about this earlier in the post. Its nice to know you can go faster than 110 if needed but the opportunity for these speeds are rare. It's much better now that I know I can get there much faster. If you were to read farther back you would have noticed that I stated that the SCT tune file I have now unlocked the top speed limiter. It's not hard to do at all within the options of the tuner itself. I was just unaware of that option when I first posted this thread. Carbon, I'm glad you are happy with your $30,000 2007 Edge SEL . It was that particular model that got me interested in the new Edge to begin with and for that I thank you. You were a pioneer of sorts because you drive one of the earlier models that sold so well and kept the Ford Edge relevant. If Ford makes the ecoboost engine an option for the 2014 and on Edge I will most likely get one. ABLB, thanks for the info and the links. I appreciate it.

Not sure on 0-60 time. I have sn SCT flash tuner with a custom tune file. I also changed the MAFM to allow more air and less restriction. My best dyno was 337 HP with all the changes I have made. No timed runs but it's got thqt seat of the pants feel wher I can tell its quite a bit quicker than stock. Th SCT tuner is also capable of removing the speed governor. That and several other options can be changed with a tune file just as extra options. I'm much happier with the Edge now. I agree on the dumb moves ford did by staying with halogen lights and the missing home link. I've taken care of the HID light past and I plan to order a universal rear view mirror that has home link butttons on it. I love my AWD Edge Sport and I get compliments on it almost everywhere I stop. It's like clockwork with people who either want to compliment the car or want to ask a few questions.

Do you know, off hand, the mpg ave on the new explorer?
-
In my opinion when compared to some of the competition 290 HP is fairly wimpy for a vehicle that large.
-
Why why why oh why are they not giving the Explorer fans a bigger motor option. I just don't understand it. I'm not a horsepower freak although if one were only to read this thread they might think so. I sold my toyota 4Runner before I got my Edge but I didn't start out shopping for an Edge. Instead I was looking for the Explorer because I had seen a few around town and in commercials and liked them. Two things happened. One, the engine choice for the explorer is/was terrible and secondly, the Edge Sport reeled me in big time! There is just something about the shape and the lines of the 2011 and 2012. Anyway, all this is probably more than you wanted to read. Sorry.
-
Sorry, I just don't know much about the Flex line or the Ecoboost engines.
-
I agree with you but I will report my findings when I get there. Are u talking about the 6 cyl ecoboost on the flex by the way?

I've not had any work done under the fender well areas and there has been no reason for anyone to remove those panels. I have a crawler and have done a good bit of rolling around under my 2011 Sport and there are multiple areas where there are obvious spots for fasteners and there are none there. These are spots where there is an actual hole in the metal and there are no fasteners. It just seems sort of random. I don't get it.
