  1. Might want to give the Operator's Manual a run-through. Your Limited may not have remote start - does it have pushbutton start? If not it doesn't have the Driver's Entry Package and also lacks passive entry and the power liftgate. The other options you are looking for are available in the settings menu on the left DIC screen. When you buy at a Ford dealership the sales people are usually better equipped to introduce you to all the features, especially important on such a technologically complex vehicle like the Edge. BTW, I noticed the Bayview Auto license plate frame in one of your gallery photos... I didn't know they had more than one location. You must have bought yours at the Barrie location. Thunder Bay to Trenton is quite a loooooong drive!
  2. Sorry to hear about your negative experience. Consider this though... any one of the 'new' cars on the lot could have been damaged in the same way your was, then repaired. You, as a consumer, would never know. So, sold order or stock unit - it's a crap shoot either way.
  3. I do admit the torque number is impressive, but I've never experienced a four cylinder (turbo or not) that was as smooth throughout the rev range as a good V6. They tend to get brash and coarse at higher rpm. Of course I've not driven the new Ecoboost Edge so I can't really make any assessment at all. It wouldn't have been on my radar as it's not available in AWD form. The V6 replacement is said to be somewhere near 2.5L, turbocharged of course, so we'll have to wait and see how the Ecoboost technology matures. I would be interested to see what gas mileage people are getting in real world driving with the new 2.0L compared with the 3.5 FWD.
  4. Glad you found this forum... I am the other Edge buyer posting in your "sayonara" thread over on the Terrain forum. I also hope I can get a few years out of my Edge... they are slated for a redesign for MY 2014 and are said to be dumping the V6 so I may be back in the market in the summer of 2013 for a current-gen Sport or Lincoln MKX, unless our needs change. I won't own a 4-cylinder if I can help it.
  5. Nope, no paint protection purchased. Don't really believe in all that extra dealer-added stuff. The bird splat was only on there for maybe 12 hours max in temps not exceeding 10*C. Oh, and I didn't actually hand wash the car - just sprayed it at the car wash. If anything that picture highlights the sad state of my spray wash skills. Besides, wouldn't the existing film of dust, road grim and dirt act as a protective shield? lol I don't have the proper facilities at my building to do a proper wash and I would NEVER use the foam brush at the carwash. I was more concerned about the scratch but now a week later new dust has obscured the paint so you can't even notice it. Wouldn't doing a proper hand wash then using a diminishing abrasive product like Zaino (PC?) return the hood to better-than-new?
  6. Good to hear you are enjoying the Edge. Ditto on the passive entry... love that feature. I've had power liftgate in other vehicles... the next generation Escape will have an even better feature where, if you have your fob, you can wave your foot under the back bumper and the liftgate will open (and close) for you. Very handy! I'm sitting right now at 3,500km on mine after three months and am getting 23 mpg on it in mostly City driving, consistently. I'm pleased with that. It will be neat to put the left info screen on "Intelligent AWD" when the roads get slippery and watch the torque be apportioned. Hopefully the AWD system is as good as my Terrain AWD.... after owning part time four wheel drive vehicles all my life I was blown away by the traction of an electronically controlled full time system. Cheers
  7. I keep seeing this thread come up... don't usually pay much attention as I am not much or a detailer. For years I leased vehicles and, having lived in a highrise condo for many years, don't put much effort into my vehicles. My regimen consists of nothing more than coin-op car washes where all I use are the high pressure wands. Honestly I haven't hand washed a vehicle of mine in going on 10 years. Yeah they look terrible most of the time but I don't really care that much. I replace my cars about once a year (although I would like to stretch that out to at least 3 years like when leases were available - if I can find one I can live with for that long) but it seems I can't get by but a few months without doing something stupid and damaging my paint job. This morning I noticed I had been bombed by a bird... about a 3-inch blast... so I decided to take the car up to the coin wash. All is well... it needs a wash anyway with all the rain we've had recently. I notice the bird dropping isn't coming off all that well so I rub it with my finger (wear cotton gloves at the wash this time of year) and continue to hose the hood down. Eventually the hood looks clean... until I get back home and notice that I have indeed scratched the hood. Great. Just like I did on my 2010 Terrain's driver door shortly after I got it. I just need to learn NOT TO TOUCH the paint... cars these days scratch so darn easily. So I have at least a couple of options.... leave it and let the dust and dirt fill in the scratch, or figure out a way to fix it. Picture attached... I can almost feel it when I run my fingernail across it. I'm assuming the white means I've scratched through the clear coat.... Any ideas about how I can get rid of this little nightmare? Need to use OTC products as the temps are dropping and my window to fix it is closing rapidly... Note to self.... have to stop buying black cars... wanted a white one this time but the only white Limited had a trailer hitch which I thought took away from the look of the rear end. Many thanks Adam
  8. Update after 3 months and 3,500 kms (2,175 mi)... Still loving the Edge. No warranty-related work, or work at all, has been needed. The MFT system has only glitched twice... the first time the radio hesitated to turn on shortly after startup but I was able to get it to work after cycling from FM back to SAT. The second time I initiated a voice command and the big LCD froze. Radio still worked OK. It didn't resolve itself until I restarted the car. Both issues aren't what I would say indicate there is an issue with the system. It's just a computer after all. I have the same v2.8 as the vehicle came with. One annoyance I have with the vehicle is (what I think is) gas sloshing around in the tank. I think I can hear it causing a 'thumping" sound during certain low-speed manoeuvres. Something that caught me by surprise yesterday morning (our first frosty morning) was the snap-ceackle-pop of what I believe to be the Vista roof. The roof has been totally silent since I drove it off the lot... no rattling or anything. I've only opened the glass a few times. Anyone else have this issue in the cold weather? So I would say so far so good. Here's hoping for continued trouble free driving....
  9. Wondering when the the front LED running lights come on? I realize they are on when you approach the vehicle and when remote start is used. Now that the mornings are dark, my Edge looks quite sinister when it's remote started... with the orange parking lamps and LED strips on. Question is are they on when driving? Either at night or during the day... I swear I've seen other new Edges driving in the dark with those on but I don't think mine light up the same way. I think mine light during the day but I'm not sure. I notice that Edges without HIDs use their headlamps as DRLs, while mine just lights the orange parking lamps. Maybe that factors in somehow. This is a Canadian HID equipped Limited, btw.
  10. Ouch! I disagree, however I've never owned a car (always full-size trucks and SUVs) let alone one with 400 hp. Actually, I find the 3.5L V6 to be plenty powerful for me... and I can't remember the last time I floored the gas pedal in a vehicle - maybe when I was 16? So I can see where we wouldn't share a consensus. lol fun, lively? Definitely words I associate with a 4,200 lb SUV. But seriously, it is a shame the 4-banger isn't available in AWD... not sure Ford will sell too many of these in my neck of the woods.
  11. Nice! Does it have the same dual-outlet exhaust as the V6s? Was your last vehicle a V6? If so, how do you compare the sound and smoothness to the six?
  12. You're kidding, right? A same-spec Edge (Limited AWD) is $42,565 in the US and a whopping $48,670 in Canada and I'm not even sure if the Canadian price includes freight. That's a difference of $6,105 before you add sales tax, which (at least in my province) is 13%. For what I pay on my Edge I could be driving a MKX if I were an American!
  13. ^ sorry to hear that. I have the 18"s (had 55 series tires on my '10 Terrain) and I wouldn't trade looks for sidewall in the future. I absolutely LOVE my Edge (+ 1 month and 1,600km) but there is a feature I miss from the Terrain and that is the park (reverse) tilt mirrors... that feature worked wonders for protecting the chrome clad wheels on that vehicle (chrome clad are VERY common on today's vehicles) and since I'm the only one driving the Edge I have memory position 2 set to tilt the right side mirror down. It's saved the right wheels from curb rash on a number of occasions...
  14. Just to clarify, the literature indicates 3.39 on Limited AWD with the 20" wheels as opposed to the 3.19 on the others. Also not entirely sure about your statement. There are a couple of factors at play there. Anyone know why they went with the 3.39 with the 20s? The difference in overall diameters between the 18s and 20s is only a couple of millimetres. Is it to offset the additional weight of the larger wheel?
  15. Kind off topic.... but one of the ONLY features I miss from my 2010 GMC Terrain is the reverse-tilt rear view mirrors. With the low profile tires on these cars it's silly not to be able to SEE your wheels when parking is only asking for damage. The workaround I have is to set memory position 2 to right mirror tilt, but auto tilt would be handy. Sorry to hear about your damage... although I thought Sports had 22" polished aluminum... easier to fix than chrome 'clad' plastic wheel covers the rest of us have. WRT MFT, I've had my Edge Limited for almost a month and 1,000km and I've only had one issue with the radio not coming on (kind of glitching) for about five minutes after startup. Maybe I've been lucky?
  16. Here are a couple of photos. July '11 build date on this Edge.
  17. Thanks for the photo! I will do the same and post back. Not sure why mine would be different from the rest... yours has the trailer package right? Maybe that has something to do with it.
  18. I've searched... even the OEM Ford parts website shows two mufflers, not one.
  19. Does your '11 3.5L have one muffler or two? I ask because I thought these vehicles had one muffler per tailpipe but mine appears to have only one long muffler mounted perpendicular to the vehicle, at the back.
  20. Don't mean to hijack... but can I ask what issues you are experiencing with your '11's transmission?
  21. I noticed this as well (although my Terrain wasn't much better) but I just clean them out with the pressure washer at the car wash. I'm more worried about that same kind of 'junk' clogging up the Vista roof drains over time.
  22. Wow! Your pleasure is palpable! Good on you. I just feel the need to point out that Edges are proudly made in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, so built in NORTH America would be more accurate. Shoutout to my fellow Ontarians!
  23. Love the controls. And no, I don't hit the switches while turning the wheel. I haven't had any issues with the MFT system... although I only have 300 km on my rig so far. Wish there was a mute button on the wheel though... and I can't figure out how to add/remove favourite sat radio stations!!!
  24. hmmm now that's confidence inspiring! My bank account can't withstand buying brand new cars every year so that I can get something I think will last. All vista roof concerns aside I DO love the panoramic views... it's like a regular sunroof on steroids!
  25. Thanks! It's good advice that applies to most sunroofs. Hopefully the drain tubes are readily accessible. Am I to assume the movable and static panels have pretty good seals themselves - to keep water out of the cabin?
