  1. I think direct injection engines run a little rich in general. Both of my GMC Terrain V6s (3.0 Direct Injection) had sooty tailpipes from day 1. Always kind of annoyed me. My Edge on the other hand has totally pristine tailpipes and has since day 1. Unfortunately, in general and with Ford, small displacement forced induction is here to stay because DI removes the need for the premium fuel required in the past. I read it over and over in the Terrain/Equinox forums how people who went with the four-banger were not getting anywhere near the EPA mileage. Personally, I don't feel a four cylinder has any place in a 4,000+ pound vehicle.
  2. Does anyone know where in the vehicle the APIM is located? Is it a big job to replace it?
  3. Ah I see. Since I'm the only one who drives my Edge I have the memory 2 set to mirrors down. The only thing it I need to remember to push '2' while in neutral, before engaging reverse.
  4. Heck of a nice looking rig, Dingo. I've only ever seen one 2011+ Sport around here and it was black. They are a bit pricey though at over $55,000. I normally park a safe distance from wherever I am going. I don't mind walking. With an aging population, it's just not worth the risk of someone attempting to 'park by feel'. My GMC Terrain had an option to tilt the outside mirrors toward the ground when you shifted into reverse so you could park closer to a curb without risking damage to your wheels. I wish Ford would implement something like that.
  5. I think you're correct. There is a danger in that for Ford, though... a nicely equipped MKX (here in Canada) is at least $60K compared to my Edge at $47K so if I have to go that far upmarket just to get a powerful, smooth V6 I am certainly going to cross-shop against other competitors like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Cadillac, etc. and potentially leave the Ford brand. Why bloat the thread by posting about semantics? It's an obvious typo, right?
  6. That's actually quite an old article from FIN. Fingers crossed they have a change of heart. If they don't, I won't be interested in the next generation model. Here's betting the next gen Lincoln MKX will still feature a V6. New four bangers are quite powerful but still noisy, coarse and thrashy in my opinion.
  7. Got my shimmery blue package today too... located about two hours east of the GTA down the 'ol 401.
  8. Did he also receive the postcard mailer about three months ago indicating that the upgrade would be mailed out as a self-install? I believe there are some that will have to go to the dealer for the upgrade... I forget the reasoning for it though.
  9. Sorry you had so much trouble with your Edge... but I'm glad you decided to stay with Ford. The new Explorers are very nice. If I were in the market for a seven seater I'd spring for the new Sport with the Ecoboost V6.
  10. I've been feeling the same thing. I have not yet received the upgrade package in the mail (although I have downloaded the update from syncmyride.com onto a USB stick) but I'm not in much of a rush. To be honest, I like the way the system functions... the fact that information is supplied in each of the corners of the interface and the fact that the outside temp is displayed front and centre. I've only had one or two glitches in the ten months and 3,000 miles of ownership... I am glad, however, that folks that have been having issues have generally been satisfied with the update. If I make it past this summer with my Edge it'll be a record for me. Hopefully 2012 will be the year I own the same vehicle for all twelve calendar years....
  11. I'm assuming this 'appearance package' is something your individual dealer is cobbling together?? Not sure I'd want those 22" wheels without the power (of the 3.7) and appropriate gear ratio to match..... An SEL is NOT a Sport. No way, no how.
  12. Personally, I think we'll be lucky to even have a V6 as an option in the next generation Edge. Those of us who prefer six cylinders may be forced to the Lincoln MKX for 2014.
  13. I think I was one of the first to receive the mailer, but I haven't received my upgrade package via mail yet. You can always download it through syncmyride.com and wait for the SD card. I don't experience any issues with my v2.8 installation so I can wait patiently. I don't believe I've seen any Canadians reporting they've received their package yet.
  14. Don't mean to thread hijack but did we ever find out why Ford is building 2013 models so much earlier than they have in the past? Just trying to think ahead and figure out the impact that so many 2013s (and so few 2012s) will have on the future used car market, especially as it relates to my 2011.
  15. Hmm every thread seems to degrade quite quickly. I'm kind of glad the biggest issue with these vehicles is the infotainment system.... and not something drivetrain or fit-and-finish related. I said I was happy with him, given the low mileage. I am the sole driver of the vehicle but I don't need to drive much. It's true I don't use all features of the MFT. I have never plugged my iphone into the USB port but I have used stereo bluetooth, played music from USB, use voice and navigation all the time. And I never said I didn't have issues with MFT v 2.8. It has glitched on me a couple of times and froze once. It is a computer and works fine most of the time so I can live with that, and it doesn't make me feel any less glad I chose the '11 Edge.
  16. Congratulations! I still love mine and haven't had any problems, but I don't drive it every day... have had it for about six months and only have 2,500 miles on it.
  17. Nice! I'm surprised Ford didn't put the LED mirror turn signal indicators as standard on the Sport.
  18. Haven't seen anyone else post this yet... I received a mailer from Ford today: "Coming soon: MyFord Touch software upgrade. We believe that MyFord Touch technology helps make your driving experience more rewarding. And we are continually researching and testing new ways to make it even better. With that in mind, a USB drive with the no-charge software upgrade will be sent to you soon. This software upgrade will feature simplified menus, larger type and icons, and a crisper and cleaner look. You can easily install it yourself or visit your local Ford Store and they will do it for you. Plus, no vehicle modification will be required." So I guess that puts to bed the notion that Canadians won't be receiving the USB stick upgrade. No mention of navigation SD cards, but I'm sure that will be sent as well. Can't wait for the upgrade!
  19. How much would that setup have cost? I ask because I've never felt the need to put aftermarket wheels on a vehicle... I guess I'd rather buy a higher trim level and get more 'goodies" for me (i.e. MFT, pano roof, leather upholstery, etc.) than buy an SE and put thousands into a set of wheels and tires to make it appear 'different'. I don't really care what the neighbours think of my cars I guess.
  20. Yours might not but mine does
  21. Since the next gen Edge is expected as a 2014 model year vehicle I doubt they will make many changes for 2013. If I'm still happy with my Edge in mid-2013 I'll order a 2013 Sport. I hear the next gen Edge will be 4-cylinder only and therefore won't be on my shopping list.
  22. Yes, because you have a 2011. Read the first post again.... the 2012 Limiteds have a full power passenger seat but are also supposed to retain the fold flat feature. I was wondering how they were planning on accomplishing this. Do you just press the seat back tilt button until it retracts down? Maybe refer to the operator's manual and report back for the benefit of others.

    Theft Alarm??

Hi Nitti, According to the info I have, all Edges have the Securi-Lock Passive Anti-theft Engine Immobilizer system as standard but it looks like the Perimeter Alarm is only available with the Driver's Entry Package. Do you know if you have that? Do you have push button start in yours?
  24. Hate to bring up an old thread... but is the window lockout switch supposed to light up in the 2011 models?
  25. Didn't know you guys got jipped on the LED DRLs. Now I feel the extra $6,000 for the equivalent model up here is justified. Thank goodness for federal DRL laws! :happy feet:
