Hi everyone: Turns out the dealer screwed up my order...left out the NAV system (just got my window sticker courtesy of you!)...of course, they also added power lift and Sirius, instead...weird. So, the floor manager tells me that the Factory installed NAV system can be done at their dealership...full functionality, full warranty, no biggie. Is this true? Can the NAV system be installed at the Ford dealer, factory quality, hooked in with he speakers and SYNC and everything? I do want to get what I pay for. Thanks!

Well, I don't understand half of what you are talking about, but here are some questions: 1. I'm in New York. - is this something that you would send up here and someone else would install? 2. What are the actual performance gains, in layman terms? Are we talking better acceleration? Higher top speed? Better handling, work with me here. 3. What is the impact on the safety of the car? Does this reduce the lifetime of the vehicle or , more importantly, the safety of the vehicle in anyway? 4. Finally, what does this cost all in and what is the process? Frankly, I'd like to the see the following on my car and would be willing to pay for it: 1. Improved acceleration 2. Tighter, more responsive handling in turning, swerving 3. Higher top speed (de-limited) 4. Superior braking 5. Unlocking of the SYNC system to play video and surf the net. Well......anyone? Thanks. PS: I don't doubt you do what you do well - I simply don't understand it.

Funny in a "Ha-Ha" kind of way. So, if this is a serious problem, folks who have had this ought to post here. Doesn't much matter to me if Ford acknowledges it or not (though they ought to if it is an issue), I just don't want to be riding around with my newborn in a car with issues...I'd rather find and fix 'em.

FORD SYNC - Can we HACK this POS?
gfhii replied to gfhii's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Well, I'll be first in line to try...hey Microsoft , look me up! LOL. I'm a power user, and I want power functionality. At the very minimum, let me hook up my 3G enabled phone to the machine and use its web browser and video functionality on the big screen! -
Seriously folks, I love the SYNC idea, great...but let's be honest. Why leave out the video capabilities? Why not let me answer text messages WHILE I am driving? Why not make this robust and useful??? Do these people think that ONLY THE DRIVER uses Navigation? Only the driver watches video? Only the driver can answer text messages? So, its a computer. Can we get a full, working piece of software from Microsoft so that I can use it as such, and my passengers can get full media integration? Or must we live with this piecemeal, albeit, clever, piece of hardware and software. Any thoughts? G

Someone once talked about de-blueing (lol) the ford emblems, making them all chrome. Can it be done, and does anyone know how?
-
Possibly - But not the deal I have via email, or the written contract I signed, so I would fight it! Well, we'll see, right? According to my VIN, she is in the works: Receipt Date: 10/9/2007 Serialize Date: 10/11/2007 Segment Date: 10/11/2007

Well, technically, its a "guarantee" or I can back out of the purchase...but who would want to, right? Well, I must say, my balloon is a little deflated, but I am hoping that my "contract" os just that!! Anyway, I'll let you all know how it goes!
-
Hmmm, That sounds pretty fishy. I have a contract. Down Payment. Agreement on terms. I am certainly committed, so the contract must be somewhat binding in both direction, I would think, for it to be valid. Hmmm....I'm not sure what the law stipulates in these cases, but it seems as if we have an agreement, and I would have a basis for a suit if they did not fulfill their end of the bargain....but then, I don't have a lot of experience with car dealers!
-
Well, I don't even have a VIM yet.....remember, I just bought this thing. Hopefully by mid November.....that's the date the dealer "guaranteed" it by. As an aside, this is , I think (big I think here) , a Ford owned dealership...
-
oooh...... Now you have me a little worried.....I mean, I have a contract, with all of those terms in it. I've paid my down payment, etc. I'm going to label myself a noob here and ask....I have a detailed contract...what exactly can they pull on me? All I am waiting for is the vehicle to arrive from Ford.

LOL, That's hilarious! Neither - as far as I can surmise, this is how it went down: 1. I researched the invoice price, MSRP and available rebates, etc for the 2008 Edge. This happened probably mid September. There wasn't a lot to be found out there, but of course, Edmunds had the appropriate information I was looking for. 2. I then contacted 2 dealers and told them I was buying next week, and I wanted their best price, all dealer expenses included. I told them I had driven the car and was only interested in a final price and that the price, when compared to others I was speaking with was going to decide who got the deal. I also told them that I was not going to haggle - 1 price and that was it. 3. I got a solid price from one dealer - the other played games and was cut. I then took that price and asked 2 more dealers to meet it, or beat it. One told me I should go for it, because it was unbeatable. The other, told me that prices for the 2008 Edge had not even been set yet, and that NO ONE had them, so my price must be based off of Edmunds and 2007 data. It was also his opinion that it was a great price. 4. I went back to the first dealer, my stalking horse, and bought the car. No fine print, very clear. 2008 Edge, AWD Limited, Vista Roof, Nav system, no financing, no leasing, just cash. And there ends the saga :-)
-
Woohoo!!! It's an AWD Limited. So...I am a HAPPY CAMPER. Anyone else have a thought.
-
I get. Ok, it was $33,750 and then they added sales tax, gov't fee and subtracted rebates/incentives. Since my 08 hasnt arrived yet, I dont know what those incentives/rebates will be, but am hoping for $1000! What I am interested in is $33,750 a good price, not including these taxes and any rebates i get for my 08 limited with Vista and Nav. Thanks
-
Hi Akirby: I don't know what you mean by "out the door". This is what I paid. $33,750 + sales tax, license fee + gov't regulatory fees (if any) MINUS (all rebates and incentives available when vehicle is ready - whatever those will be in a few weeks time). That's it. No doc fees, no admin fees, no other costs, no trade-in at all. Uhm. Thoughts? Really interested in everyone's opinion.
-
Then someone explain this to me... . I paid, 1 week ago or so, $33, 750 for a 2008 Edge Limited, with Vista Sun Roof, and NAV system. That $33,750 included the delivery fee, and ALL dealer related costs. So, no gov taxes, license fee, etc. but thats it. Also, my contract states that all rebates and incentives, available at time of delivery, are mine to keep. According to Edmunds, that is invoice. So....does that make sense to Anyone? Seems, from what you are saying, I shouldn't have been able to get that deal. Thanks,
-
Well, MSRP I no longer recall, however, that price is independent of sales tax and registration costs. So, basically, it is car+delivery fee only, no tax or fees or anything like that - dealer related costs. AWD 08 Edge Limited w/Vista and Nav for that price.

Hi, Because it is interesting and also a valuable tool for some, I thought folks might be interesting in sharing prices paid for their configuration of the Edge, or what they've been offered, for advice. I bought mine recently (2008 Edge, AWD, Limited Edition - Vista Roof, Navigation System). I paid $33, 600, including the delivery fee. What do folks think of that price? And has anyone done better? Chris
