Husky Liners (Happy with them?)
fishx65 replied to fishx65's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
choff, any chance you could post the Husky part #? The Husky website lists the same stock number for the 2010 and 2011 but the 10 has one mounting tab and the 11 has two on the drivers side. Do your liners just have an indentation where the mounting tabs are or do they actually have holes that mount to the factory tabs? -
Husky Liners (Happy with them?)

Gimp, why did you have to trim them? You have the front Liners and not just mats, right? The Husky number is 33291. -
Would like to hear from those that went with the Husky Liners over the Weather Techs for the front. Do they fit pretty good? I'm getting ready to order them for my 2011 SEL. 50 some bucks and free shipping from Streetside sounds like a pretty good deal. My 11 has the two mounting tabs on the drivers side so I'm gonna pull the carpet up to remove them.

Only one way to find out! Please let us know.

Thanks for posting this!!! Pretty sure you are the 1st one on here to do this install at home. Just to clarify, the kit comes with a new black plastic strip and you don't need the original, correct? Is the new strip identical to the old one with the exception of pre-cut holes?

Ask A Professional Detailer?

I've been using the 303 product for years. I think I read somewhere that you should not get it on the clear plastic of the instrument cluster and stereo screens cuz it may cause them to fog/haze over time. I would not use it on headlights. 303 works awesome on tires! Gives them a nice satin sheen and does not collect dust. I also use 303 on all the exterior black plastic trim. I've been thrilled to death with the Griots waterless wash product. Make sure to get yourself a nice supply of HIGH QUALITY microfiber towels in various sizes. The light green ones I purchased from Griots are really nice but I was also able to find some good ones at local stores. -
Anybody used Scotch guard on their floor mats?
fishx65 replied to forthvacav's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Just got around to getting this done. Sprayed the seats, carpet and mats with the 303 fabric guard product in my 2011. One bottle got the job done but it took a really long time to dry in my very cold garage. Tested the waterproofing ability by putting a floor mat under the sink and the results are great. Stain and salt fighting ability remains to be seen. I have that really light sand colored carpet so it should be a good test for this product. -
I'm with ya. Takes about 5 minutes not including drain time. Around $26.00 for Motorcraft oil and filter. Nice to see that Advance is starting to stock the 500!!!!

Us Michiganders have a hard time keeping a shiny ride this time of year. The small set of mudflaps I installed up front seem to help a lot. You guys should see mine right now, had it out on the two tracks scouting deer all day!!!!

I have not purchased a set of rims since the late 70's but I would think that 800 smackers would come very close to covering a nice set of aftermarket aluminum rims. I remember that late 70's purchase, a set of 5 spoke chrome Cragars for the old Hotrod 77 T-Bird!!!!

Did you change the fluid yourself or did you have it done? Probably a good idea to check and see if the fluid level is perfect. Simple but ya never know. Another reason could be the wrong type of fluid. I've never trusted those quick change places but I do put the dealerships a little higher on the scale.

how to prevent corrosion
fishx65 replied to jcaulfield8's topic in Appearance - Detailing, Wash & Wax
Pretty sure Michigan uses as much salt as any state during the winter months. I sprayed the undercarriage of my 2011 with about 10 cans of 3M professional undercoating and hit the inside of the doors, tailgate and hood with a few cans of 3M rustproofing. I used this same method on a new 2003 F150 and it still looked perfect top to bottom when sold with 90,000 miles on it. I did touch up the undercoating once per year to cover rock chips. Another option is to just have it done but the so called "Professional" jobs I've had done in the past looked like a 2 year old did them. Undercoating can do more harm then good if not applied properly. As far as cleaning goes, I think just using a coin-up carwash wand to spray down the undercarriage when weather permits is the best you can do. -
Stopped by a few dealerships and called a few others. Got lots of different answers. Not sure why someone would just make things up if they don't know the correct answer!!!! I decided to take a look for myself but have not gotten very far yet. I can see on my Edge that there are some white plastic brackets bolted to the roof which the black rubber strips snap into. The strips also seem to be slid into some type of channel in the roof itself. Pulling hard unsnapped the back end of one of the rubber strips which I was able to snap back on. I should have some more info when I try to remove the rack rails on a friends 2010 next week. I'm hoping that the rack rails just use the same bolts that hold the white plastic brackets on. One thing I know for sure is that the factory rails are installed right on top of the long rubber strip. There must be holes in the rubber strip where the rail bolts screw in.

Should be a straight swap. Another great option would be the aftermarket. Would get much better sound and you can even retain the steering wheel controls. If better sound does not matter, factory 6 disc is the way to go. I'm an MP3 format guy and I'm not sure if the older 6 disc decks played that format.
-
Gonna have both. For some reason I also like how the roof rails look on an Edge.

I want to install the factory rails on my 2011 (Non Vista). I have not found a clear answer to these questions yet: Are there already holes under the black inserts or will this installation require drilling a few holes????? Has anyone pulled their inserts off yet to check? Also wondering if I have to drop the headliner. Need me a rack to put my deers up there!!!

I picked up this 2011 FWD SEL used from a family member for a really good price so I didn't have a choice. If I was gonna purchase new, I would definitely go for the AWD if you live in a snowy climate. I really miss my 4x4 F-150 and Explorers when the Michigan snows start falling. The Edge handles the snow well for a FWD vehicle but can't even come close to AWD or a 4x4. The Edge does have good ground clearence which should be a big advantage when driving in deep snow. I'm getting awesome mpg but would gladly give up 1 or 2 for AWD. I don't think you will be a happy camper if ya pick up a FWD. I've driven a few Jeep Libertys in my time and can tell you that the Edge is, by far, a much nicer vehicle in every way besides not having a transfer case.

Had a few chances to drive the 11 SEL FWD in some heavy snow in the last week. Seems to do pretty good and the stock tires do a good job. Not sure I'm crazy about the anti-wheel spin feature but I need to give it a little more saddle time. Not sure how this system works but I know it can be disabled. Can anyone explain how it works? Does it cut fuel or spark?

Not sure if I was very clear. I have a single ten inch sub in a small sealed box. I put four 1" legs on the box so the sub fires down and is well protected I have not installed it in my Edge yet but have had it in many other vehicles. In the Edge, I'm gonna just put it behind the smaller rear seat. It will take up some cargo room but it's really easy to move around or take out when I need the extra space. I've never had it slide or move around in any of my Explorers or F150. A small amp mounted under the rear seats will power it. I also recarpet the box to match each vehicle I use it in. It's a great option if you wanna run a 10 or even a 12 incher and still be able to use 100% of the cargo area if need be.
-
I would say that you made a really bad choice when you decided to purchase an Edge. Sell it and go get what ya like but make sure you test drive it first and pull into some parking spots that are on your left. Getting stuck with a vehicle you don't like is pretty easy to avoid.
-
Good catch A! Fixed it. A passive X-over for the sub would be another option if the amp does not have one. I'm wondering if anyone has just gone ahead and added a sub without addressing the stock radio's bass reduction system. I would guess that the sub would still make a world of difference even if the stock radio lowered the bass at high volumes a little.
-
Since you are not a bass hog, maybe a really nice small boxed single 8 incher would cover your needs just fine. Add a small amp that has a crossover and speaker level inputs and you're good to go. Not sure how much room is under the seat but a very small box in the back would not take up much room and could be easily removed for those times a little extra space is needed. I have a small 10 box that's been following me around for years.

Are you sure your SEL has separate tweeters? I've always run separates in my vehicles but a great coax can sound really good and is an easy swap. The Quarts you ordered are a little low on sensitivity (88db) so you may not be happy powering them with the stock headunit. I would also spend some time listening to the new door speakers before going to a sub cuz you may be perfectly happy with the added bass they produce. I've always gone way overboard with installs but I guess old age is mellowing me out a little because I've been fine with just swapping out the front speakers on my Edge. I think I have enough older high-end car audio equipment to start a small shop!!!!!!!

Make sure to let us know if Ford is still using the plastic speakers in the 2012's.
