Of course you see a difference at WOT on a dyno - the intake is limiting the amount of air so denser air allows more oxygen. All that matters is how much oxygen is entering the engine. There is no difference between 50% throttle in the summer and 45% throttle in the winter (assuming the oxygen difference is 5% just as an example. It’s extremely well proven that Summer blend fuel yields better fuel economy than winter blend fuel due to the summer additives that reduce vapors in hot weather.

Is this the end of any FORScan mods?
akirby replied to tk2fast's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Sure it is - youre changing bits in the software. Doesnt matter where those bits are and whether theyre flags (options) or code. Theyre not going to do anything about it if youre just doing it on your own except possibly deny a warranty claim if something goes wrong. But I guarantee you this move isnt about stopping Forscan mods - it will make it easier for Ford to provide IDS updates and do less troubleshooting on IDS problems due to the dealers hardware. -
We no longer wanted a basement - the new one will be our retirement home so we wanted everything we needed on one level including the back yard and a future pool. Also wanted to get away from traffic and county politics so we built one county over.

Air density doesn’t usually matter because you adjust your throttle input accordingly. Summer to winter blend is usually good for 1-2 mpg regardless of driving style.

I doubt the 2019 Edge would be changing to the new system although it’s certainly possible. 2018 Expy was a brand new vehicle on a brand new platform. -

What harm could you possibly do by directly modifying parameters in binary code? Pretty much everything and anything. You’re just hoping Forscan makes benign changes but honestly there is no way for you to know for sure you’re not messing something up. I agree we should have more option choices but you most certainly don’t have a right to do it. You could just as easily disable some safety feature or brick the entire system. -
I also rebuilt the deck and built the pergola from scratch.

They were only 1 inch thick and after the first 500 or so I hired 2 college kids to haul the rest. They could haul about 50 at a time comfortably. Yes, that was 60 trips. The bad part was my wife and I then had to move them from the edge of the patio to the rest of the patio. I got smart and put a piece of plywood on a 4 wheeled dolly. We did it all ourselves - 20 x 25 concrete pad with 1/4 inch of sand then the 1 pavers. Took 3 days - I had to mortar in the outside course after they were all laid. It was crap load of work but it only cost us $2K total, turned out great and helped us sell the house in a week. Worth the effort and expense.

I think the problem is getting the hot exhaust air out of the seat back, so opening it helps.

I believe the wheel studs are larger than normal thus the higher torque rating.

The platinum membership doesn’t work as far as I know - the others sound like browser issues. Try a different browser - which one are you using?

I’m well aware of the utility of a tractor - used our old JD tractor with a Rubbermaid dump cart for the last 15 years including hauling 3000 pavers from the driveway to the back yard. Also used it to pull my utility trailer in and out of the back yard. But I won’t need that at the new house. You can still pull a small trailer even with the Z355 with an accessory hitch. I just think it will do much better at cutting grass especially on a hill.

Not sure that means that Forscan will no longer work. Have you seen someone trying to use it and it failing? Even if it does, you don’t have any rights to be able to modify Ford’s proprietary software. I understand wanting to do it and it is nice to be able to customize the vehicle beyond what the factory provides but Ford (and any other company) has no obligation to allow it at all. -
I like that too. I’m about to pull the trigger on a new JD - we should be closing on the new house in about 4 weeks. I’m leaning towards a Z355 - 48” zero turn mower. Any experience/advice on those? The other option is a S class tractor but I think the Zero turn mower will work better especially on the side and back yards that are sloped.

I know it’s not adequate. We had a 2003 Aviator that would freeze your back so I know what it’s supposed to feel like. But the service writer was wrong about it being tied to the HVAC system.

New to a 2012 SEL, 3.5l, need to tow.
akirby replied to ORradtech's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
If it doesn’t have the tow package it’s only rated for 2000 lbs. -
That’s due to summer blend fuel.

Father in law has a blade on the back to level dirt. I can stand on it and it will still pull both of us and a couple of inches of dirt. Amazing.
-
Your service rep is totally incorrect. There is no connection to the HVAC system - the seat heating/cooling is self contained.
-
Father in law has an old mower he rebuilt - uses it to grade lawns. It has torque for days. I would guess that those older engines were built for low end torque as opposed to high end HP.

Ford 2016 AWD Titanium with 20" wheels + 18" spare tire

Measure the circumference - it’s the same as the regular tires. Wheel size doesn’t matter - tire diameter/circumference does. -
Ford Adaptive Cruise Control Explained
akirby replied to blitz118's topic in 2015+ Edge & MKX Generation II
No argument there. I also found that it didn't start accelerating soon enough when you pull out to pass. If they made it more gentle you could always override it with the accelerator if necessary. Our current vehicles don't have it so I don't have to worry about it any more. Don't really miss it either. -
Ford Adaptive Cruise Control Explained

There is no way you're ever going to hypermile on factory cruise control. As I get older I've found it's better to enjoy things than to worry and fuss and try to eke out an extra mpg or 2 or 3. If you're already getting that kind of mileage 3 mpg is barely noticeable. -
Try using the steering wheel paddles to downshift before accelerating just to see if that makes a difference. You don't have to move the shifter out of D, just use the left paddle. It will go back to auto mode after a few seconds. Could be the throttle body. If you can reproduce it then you need to get the tech or service advisor to ride with you and show them. Alternatively you can try a different Edge and see if it does the same thing.

Ford Adaptive Cruise Control Explained
akirby replied to blitz118's topic in 2015+ Edge & MKX Generation II
I have a hard time believing it's a 3-4 mpg difference. Maybe 1. And I'm pretty sure you can turn off the adaptive part and just use it like a normal cruise control if you want.
