It's almost certainly not turbo lag. It has to be the ETC or the tranny or the PCM programming. It's possible it was a pre-production problem that's been fixed for production. Hard to say until the production units come out. Either way it's disappointing.

Sounds 100% accurate to me. Just admit you created your own standards for what ST should mean and now you're disappointed.

Can't remember if the 09 had the option (check your owner's manual) but on later models you can put the liftgate where you want it and hold the push button for a few seconds and it would remember that opening height.

Where is the specification document that says exactly what ST means and lists all the performance targets that it has to meet? And where is it written that those requirements have to apply to EVERY vehicle from small hatchbacks to medium and large utilities? To me ST just means tuned by Ford Performance and is the lowest tier of performance. There really shouldn't be any specific expectations other than improvements over the base vehicle in terms of performance. If you made up your own specific expectations then that's your issue, not Ford's. It is what it is and it's exactly what Ford wanted it to be. If you don't like it then don't buy it. But don't complain that it shouldn't be a ST just because you don't like it.

The only way to go from here is to go trade it for a 2015 Sport and get it tuned. Anything else is a waste of money.

It would have been nice to have the 2.3L available but it's not being offered even in the Nautilus, so either they're trying to cut costs by only having 2 engines or they don't have enough capacity to use the 2.3L elsewhere (probably due to it being the only engine in the new Ranger). If you want the engine but better ride quality looks like you'll have to step up to a Nautilus. At least you get Lincoln Ride Control and CCD and Sport/Comfort modes. The price difference is about $3K but you get a longer warranty and free pickup/delivery. You can't get the brake package or summer tires though.

Sport vs ST badge is quite simple. If the normal Edge team does the tuning, it's a Sport. If Ford Performance does the tuning it has to be a ST - that's their mildest badge (as opposed to RS). Expecting it to handle like a Fiesta ST means ignoring physics. Edge has 13" longer wheelbase and is 28" longer, 8" wider and 10" taller. It's also 5 inches longer and 3 inches taller than SQ5 and Macan, and it's at least $10K-$20K cheaper. I think there were a lot of unrealistic expectations for this vehicle. It does sound like there are problems like the slow launch (which could just be a software problem with the electronic throttle control and tranny software) and other quirks that don't seem to make sense (like not staying in Sport mode). But I think if you're at all interested you should wait and drive one yourself. Don't base your decision on a few online reviews.

It has nothing to do with being happy about it, it's about understanding how software works overall, not just in vehicles. And it's not done to sell more new vehicles. It's done to cut support costs especially on features that don't add much value and that not very many owners use like the VHR. Features that integrate with the phone are very difficult to maintain as phone operating systems change. And I presume this is another feature that very few people used. You don't have to like it, but you should understand why it's being done, that it's perfectly legal and all mfrs either do it or will be doing it at some point.

The 10 speed tranny is RWD only. The 8 speed is the only option for transverse engines.

Sounds like you guys are really wanting a RS version which would be lighter, more nimble and maybe have more power from a 3.0LEB. But it's still going to be taller and heavier than a Porsche Macan or Audi SQ5. Maybe a new Escape ST based on the new platform would be more to your liking.

They don't think it's as sporty as the Fiesta and Focus ST. I guess they don't understand the laws of physics. The real question should be what other mainstream 2 row utilities does it compete against and how does it perform relative to those? And don't mention Audi or Porsche unless you also mention the huge price difference.

Ugh. Why is she comparing it to the Audi Q5? The Q5 is not only smaller but only has a 2.0T engine - AND it's more expensive than the Edge ST. The competitor is the SQ5 which is still smaller but has similar performance. But the SQ5 is over $60K. And I guarantee the other competitors of similar size and performance are way more expensive. At least point out the price and size differences when making those comparisons.

It's still a heavy utility with a high center of gravity. That limits the performance potential a lot especially if you're comparing it to Fiesta and Focus.

I'm keeping my F150 and adding a used Porsche Boxster at some point. Wife has a MKX now after the 2008 Edge and no way she'd want a ST.

I’m just trying to get you to see it from Ford’s standpoint, which you don’t seem interested in, so let’s just move on. I never said they shouldn’t fix it under warranty, and that’s exactly what they’re doing.

They removed that feature on the Ford server side - has nothing to do with the vehicle itself.

If the dealer repair wasn't done correctly and that lead to the subsequent failure, then that's the dealership's fault. Ford is still responsible from a warranty standpoint and responsible for the initial problem but the dealership also bears a large portion of the blame in this case (if I'm reading it correctly) for the second failure and the engine replacement. What if the oil was changed at 3K or 5K miles and the wrong oil was used? You simply don't know what happened in the first 10K miles, regardless of how unlikely it might have been.

Go back to 2017........... That feature was recently removed.
