  1. If it’s the original battery that means it’s close to or over 3 years old. Personally I would just replace it to be safe and see if that solves the problem. You’d be surprised at the strange things that weak batteries cause even when everything else seems to be ok. If it was the motor then it should still unlatch and it sounds like it’s no doing that, so maybe it’s the latch that’s stuck.
  2. It also helps sell the 401A package which is an extra $5800 or so. You might not like it but it’s smart marketing.
  3. If we had a dime for every time something strange turned out to be the battery, we'd have a big ass pile of dimes. I bet my $60 Solar BA7 tester would have identified the battery as bad in about 2 seconds. Why mechanics aren't using it is beyond me.
  4. Came Clear While Testing. Classic telephone circuit repair terminology.
  5. Looking at the Canadian order guide it’s exactly same as I described. With the 400A base ST trim the Foot operated hands free lift gate is only available with the convenience package. The website is probably wrong. Power liftgate is standard but not the hands free foot operated feature.
  6. Sorry, I was looking at the US order guide and assumed it was the same in Canada, but it might not be. I can't find the CA order guide to verify. Sometimes the online build and price is incorrect.
  7. There have been bad brand new APIMs so you may have just gotten a bad one. If the new one goes out I would suspect something else or something in the wiring.
  8. The hands free foot operated liftgate is available with the convenience package on the SEL and ST base 400A. It is standard on the Titanium and the ST 401A.
  9. I don't think people understand the impact to dealers of having millions of orderable combinations. Dealers have to stock a certain number of vehicles and having dozens of options and option packages presents a problem. When were were looking for our MKX we could not find exactly what we wanted in dealer stock within 100 miles because even on the MKX reserve there were 5 or so option packages and most dealers did not order their stock with all 5. So we either did without the technology package or waited 8 weeks to special order. At least now if you want a loaded ST you just have to look for the 401A package. I realize it's not quite as convenient for buyers who want to cherry pick but in the long run it's better for Ford and Ford dealers and makes it a little easier to find something in stock.
  10. Absolutely not. I don't think you've ever been able to do that - at least not in the last 30+ years. And it's not the dealer, it's Ford. Let me clarify that - in some cases there are stand alone options that can be ordered on a base model (F150 has quite a few) but you can only order the options that Ford allows. If they decide to bundle 15 things you either get the bundle or you don't - you can't cherrypick.
  11. If they made the convenience package standard then the base price would be $1K higher. You don’t get it for free.
  12. That is a headscratcher. At least it's a relatively easy aftermarket job.
  13. The ST is based on the SEL standard equipment, not the Titanium so that's why the convenience package is extra. They simplified the ordering combinations so you get a Base ST 400A with a few stand alone options or a fully loaded 401A. It's better for the dealers and for shoppers who either want a fully loaded or minimally loaded ST but it sucks if you want to cherry pick a few options. They've done the same thing on the other trim levels. As for the 2.0T - have you driven one or is it just a philosophical aversion to turbocharged engines? I'd much prefer a 2.0T over the 3.7L in our MKX.
  14. Time for a new battery. Most don’t last more than 3 years nowadays.
  15. Your battery is weak. How old is it?
  16. The factory halogen headlamps are almost always aimed too low. Raising them slightly helps a lot.
  17. Some people claimed that wasn’t possible.
  18. Nope, the light is all you get. You’re supposed to be looking at the mirror and looking behind you even with the blind spot assistance.
  19. As long as the tread is at the right depth and there is no other damage it’s usually a very easy process with no questions asked.
  20. But there is no mechanism to make the turbo “spin faster”. Perhaps the turbo produces more boost than is needed all the time which is controlled by the blowoff valve, so it will eventually hit max boost either way - it will just take longer at altitude thus the turbo lag. But I didn’t think that the blowoff valve worked that way and that it only prevented damage when the throttle was shut suddenly. Either way a vehicle is going to be slower off the line at altitude without some type of tuning compensation. No way around it.
  21. There is less oxygen per cubic foot of air at 5000 ft. It seems to me that the turbo is going to compress the air by the same amount so if you start with a less dense air mixture you’ll end up with a less dense compressed mixture even though the turbo is providing the same amount of compression. You would have to turn up the boost to get the same end result when starting with less dense air. In a very simple example, let’s say the turbo provides a 4:1 compression. At sea level there are 20 parts Oxygen per cubic foot and at 5000 ft there are only 17 parts oxygen per cubic foot. If you compress 4:1 at sea level you end up with 80 parts oxygen per cubic foot but at 5K feet you only get 64 parts oxygen. You only get more oxygen if you increase the amount of compression. At least that’s the only explanation that makes sense to me.
