  1. This is a common misconception. The Ford trannies only learn shift pressures, not shift points. It compares the time it takes to complete a shift with the factory spec and adjusts the pressure accordingly. This accounts for manufacturing tolerances or differences and wear over time. It does not adjust to the driver, but driving normally will allow the shift pressures to be adjusted more quickly for the type of shifts you normally encounter. There are vehicles that adjust the shift points but I've never heard of a Ford unit doing it (yet).
  2. Re-torque the lugnuts. If that's not it then it must be a bad rotor or caliper or some foreign material in the brake system.
  3. This is mostly snake oil with one exception - IF the interior protection uses a silicon-based product AND it comes with at least a 3 year warranty AND it's less than $100 then it might be worth it. You can use scotchguard yourself but it's water based and will have to be reapplied every 6 months. I used to sell the silicon based fabric protection for furniture and the stuff really works as advertised and it doesn't wear off like Scotchguard. Back in the 80's it only cost us $5 to spray a sofa (we charged anywhere from $40 to $75). I can't imagine it costs more than $20 or so to spray an interior today.
  4. No, it doesn't. I think you're confusing 70-0 times with 60-0 times. Motorweek says the Edge and MKX take around 145 ft (give or take - don't remember exactly) from 60 while the competition is in the 130's. You can only get down to 120's with a X5 which isn't the competition. It looks like they had to compromise the rolling resistance of the tires for CAFE compliance and that's being fixed for 08. I expect the 08s to be back in the 130's.
  5. Motorcraft 5W-20 is a synthetic blend. There's no good reason to change it more frequently than every 5K miles. Changing it more often is just throwing money (and oil) down the drain (or to a recycle center).
  6. Point of clarification: the EPA mileage has nothing to do with Ford or any other mfr. If you have a beef it's with the EPA, not Ford. You can check out the 2008 fuel economy estimates here. http://www.fueleconomy.org/feg/calculatorSelectYear.jsp
  7. Yeah - take it back to the dealer. They're the only ones who can determine if your problem matches the TSB and they're the only ones who can fix it under warranty.
  8. Most of the posts I've seen (including some of the car mags) is 18-20 combined for the FWD models. In your case I would expect that to be in the 22-24 range if you're doing mostly highway (although speed will have a big impact on that).
  9. I'm sure they were talking about total crossover sales between April 06 and April 07.
  10. Blue bulbs or a full HID conversion? Which brand?
  11. You need to ask the dealer. It depends on what you're ordering - some may want a deposit (normally $500 refundable) some may not. Once it comes in the process is the same as buying one off the lot - except hopefully you've already negotiated a price.
  12. I added one to my Fusion. All the Homelink transmitters are the same and just use 12V power. I bought a homelink equipped sun visor for a Maxima off Ebay for $30, removed the homelink transmitter and wired it into my Fusion sun visor. Removing and reinstalling the fabric cover without cutting it is the tricky part. I cut mine and it looks bad but works great. I'm going to get a new one and try it without cutting it. If they add it to the Edge for 08 you should be able to buy a new visor if the colors don't change. Or you can get a rear view mirror with homelink built in but be aware that both will be in the $200-$300 range. They're not cheap which is why I did the ebay thing.
  13. The difference you're seeing is not due to holdback - that is included in the invoice and rebated later. It's due to other fees that vary such as dealer association advertising fees, etc. These are fees the dealer must pay so it's fair that they are included in the dealer's actual invoice. If this link works you can see a sample invoice showing the advertising assessment and fuel charge which won't be in the edmunds, kbb, etc. invoice figures. https://www.fordpartner.com/partnerweb/pdf/...lan_invoice.pdf
  14. Tri-color paints require more steps because there are 3 distinct layers instead of 1 or 2.
  15. Ford and GM chose different strategies for controlling the 6F shifting. Ford chose to do it entirely from the PCM while GM put some of the smarts on the transmission control module itself. So while the hardware may be identical the software is unique to each company.
  16. Didn't see this posted yet. The EPA will adopt more realistic fuel economy ratings for the 2008 model year. Here is a calculator that will help you estimate the new ratings: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calculatorSelectYear.jsp 2007 Ford Edge 2WD current ratings 18 city 25 highway 21 combined new ratings 16 city 23 highway 19 combined 2007 Ford Edge AWD current ratings 17 city 24 highway 20 combined new ratings 16 city 22 highway 18 combined If the 3.5L is anything like the 3.0L it will take at least 3K miles to reach maximum fuel economy. And winter fuel mixes will also make it worse.
