That’s no longer the case with the new Explorer. Different platform, 7” longer wheelbase.

Yeah no way they give you a new car. The good news is after they repaint the door you won't even notice it. That's an easy repair since they don't have to do any body work.

Be aware that AWD models have a PTU that sends power to the rear wheels. The PTU can leak in some cases if not serviced regularly. If you only need FWD you can avoid that problem. Just check for leaks around the engine/transmission and make sure the transmission shifts normally.

Technically it's out of the new tire warranty but I agree - it won't hurt to discuss it with a good Pirelli dealer especially if you still have the tire.

Just get the roof and never open it. Makes for a really nice window to the stars at night.

Sounds a little high but you'd have to check around your area to see what others are selling for. Prices can vary a lot from location to location.

Edge ST 180 Degree Rear Camera
akirby replied to JCrew7384's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
The 180 front camera is most useful when there is an obstruction on one or both sides as you're leaving a parking spot or driveway going forward. Doesn't happen a lot but when it does there is no substitute other than having a passenger get out and look both ways. -
It means there is either a loan or lien against the vehicle. If this is a private sale it probably means there is still a loan and that will be paid off when you purchase it. If it's through a dealer it could mean the dealer hasn't paid off the previous loan or the paperwork hasn't caught up yet. The only flag is if there is an actual lien against it which means somebody did work on it and didn't get paid. The seller should take care of that by either paying it or giving you the money to pay it yourself. It's most likely just a paperwork delay paying off the old loan.

My Kids Chose Japanese Competitors
akirby replied to pintokid's topic in Competing Crossovers & Vehicles
If you look at the objective data there is very little difference in quality amongst most mfrs now. Even the best can expect 1 problem in the first 3 years. If you take out Jeep and Fiat which are a little worse than the others, you can expect 2 problems in the first 3 years (which in most cases probably still equates to 1 dealer visit). Almost any engine and transmission will last 150K with proper maintenance and things don't fall apart on the interior like they used to. What you see now are engineering problems on specific parts that weren't caught before launch or supplier issues. -
EVERY vehicle has consumer complaints somewhere on the internet if you look for them.

I believe that was a throttle body issue not specific to the sport models. Most likely would have been fixed already. Have a dealer pull an Oasis report if you want to see the history. It’s not a terribly expensive repair. About $500 at the dealer, $150 and 15 minutes if you DIY.

Loss of brakes-Part II - The Smoking Gun....
akirby replied to quincy's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
I agree. If this was a widespread problem we would have heard more about it. -
I think it also has to do with the AWD fuel economy being slightly lower.
-
Perhaps it was a 19 gallon tank? I think AWD Edges came with bigger tanks.

Ford have always had about 10% remaining when it says 0 DTE.
-
Ford would probably have to go out of process to do that but it's certainly worth a shot if the dealer won't submit it correctly.

Premium gas vs. regular: what's really better
akirby replied to enigma-2's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
That's the one I was thinking of. Back in the 60s I think they called it "white gas". -
Sounds like the problem is that he paid out of pocket and has to be reimbursed (understandable given the circumstances) whereas I would assume normally the repairing dealer would simply provide the loaner on their dime. Still, CJ does seem to be an appropriate description at this point but I still think the problem is with the dealer.

Premium gas vs. regular: what's really better
akirby replied to enigma-2's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
Ford actually recommends Premium when towing or carrying a heavy load for that exact reason. The myth that premium contains more detergents was actually true back in the 60s - 70s (maybe into the 80s) where companies like Amoco only put detergents in their "hi-test" or Premium products. -
Probably doesn’t work that way. The dealer probably has to submit that the rental was associated with the warranty repair. But it’s worth a shot at this point.
-
Ford can only go by what the dealer submits. It sounds like the dealer is doing something wrong. If all else fails ask the dealer to call the number Ford gave you while you’re with the dealership employee. If they insist that they’ve submitted the claim ask for a picture of the screen confirming that it was submitted so you can take that back to Ford.

Sync 3/Sirius XM Updates/ Phone Issues
akirby replied to MJB3's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I believe Honda uses XM radios while Ford uses Sirius (yes they are different even though it’s one company now).
