  1. Wow - you don't know much about troubleshooting. I've been doing computer troubleshooting for 20 years (real ones with millions of business dollars at stake - not PCs). There are only 2 options here - Sync software has a bug that only affects your Treo and possibly a few other phones OR the phone itself has a problem with the bluetooth pairing logic. The fact that 42 phones from 6 different carriers (and several mfrs) work properly says that the Sync bluetooth interface is working properly - end of discussion. That either makes it a phone problem OR a simple mismatch in the bluetooth implementations where the standard is vague and each one did it differently. Possible but not likely. If you do a search for Treo bluetooth problems you'll find a plethora of problems with other bluetooth devices, not just Sync. I'm not saying it can't be a Sync problem, just that there's only a 10% chance. 90% it's the phone.

  3. I agree with the sentiment but the blame is displaced. Lincoln has no control whatsoever over which loaner vehicle the dealership decides to give you. The dealers won't let Lincoln dictate things like that - they hide behind the state franchise laws. All Lincoln can do is provide reimbursement to the dealership. This isn't limited to Lincoln dealers. A local Mercedes dealer uses Camrys and Accords for loaners. Find a better dealer.
  4. I thought you were following me........ It's a known fact that not all phones support all of the bluetooth standards. It's also a known fact that there are many phones that have been tested and work fine with Sync, proving that Ford and Microsoft have implemented the bluetooth interface standards correctly. Now there can always be a bug in the software but as far as compatibility goes if it works with several phones but not your phone model then I don't understand how you can think it's a Sync problem. If I were you I'd be beating up the phone mfr to fix it instead of whining about Ford.
  5. There....I fixed it for you. It's not a Sync problem - it's the phones! Didn't you just prove that with the Treo patch?
  6. More likely that the cold weather is causing a difference in expansion between the case and the seal causing it to leak. The PTO sounds like the part that sends power to the rear wheels - similar to the transfer case on a 4x4.
  7. All I meant was that it wasn't a sign of bad things to come with the vehicle long term. It's something that can be fixed and shouldn't reoccur. Stuff happens, even with Hondas and Toyotas. You should see what the Toyota Tundra owners are having to deal with - snapped camshafts, damaged tailgates, transmission problems, vibrations, etc, etc. Not to mention the tranny problems on the Camrys and Accords.
  8. I had inside info from an employee or two but I can't find the details. But I'm 95% sure there was a part that was delivered out of spec (maybe more than one).
  9. I wasn't implying that it was done purposely (if at all), but stuff happens. I wasn't trying to blame anyone (it's Ford's responsibility regardless) - just trying to point out how something like that could happen in the first place. But I do seem to remember something similar happening at launch time on the Edge with a supplier providing faulty parts that help up final production. Or did I imagine that?
  10. It's either a design problem they overlooked in testing or (more likely) a change in materials or specs that occured at the last minute or without Ford's knowledge that shows up in cold temps. Once they figure out what to change it will most likely not reoccur. So while it's a major PITA it doesn't sound like anything to worry about long term.
  11. How many times can we tell you that when the vehicle is delivered there will be an official dealer invoice and on that invoice will be a box showing the X plan price. If you're using a X plan PIN then that is the price you'll pay - period. Or you won't be using the PIN. There is no negotiation. You can negotiate other things like wheels, etc. Posting the same question in 6 different topics on 2 different websites will not help anyone.
  12. I didn't think you could use true HIDs for high beams in a traditional setup because they get switched on and off too much. The MFRs use bi-xenon which uses one lamp and moves the deflector to change the beam pattern.
  13. I already said if the salesman told someone their phone would work and it doesn't then that's a big problem. No argument. They should let you try it for yourself. Of course the website is vague - Ford and Microsoft have absolutely NO control over how a phone manufacturer implements their bluetooth interface. And given the number of different phone models and firmware versions out there it's impossible for Ford or Microsoft to test everything. As for the discount thing, you said: And that's what I was responding to. Would it be a good thing for dealers to offer a Sync compatible phone with each vehicle? Sure - nice marketing ploy. But you're implying that the Sync system is defective because it doesn't support your phone and therefore you deserve a discount which I think is ridiculous.
  14. I would agree, except that wasn't the question you posed. You said that they should offer you a discount (or pay for a compatible phone - same thing) because YOUR cell phone wasn't fully compatible.which implies that you knew that before you bought it. If the dealer told you it would work and it didn't - different issue. The problem is that Sync is built to support a specific, published bluetooth standard. If the phone also supports that same standard then it works. If it doesn't then it's the phone's problem. It's like buying a 1080p HDTV only to find out that your standard DVD player won't output 1080p and then blaming the the TV manufacturer.

  16. If you know what you want just deal directly with the sales manager. He'll probably hand you off to a sales droid to write up the sale but he'll be much easier to negotiate with for the wheel swap. As far as factory orders go - just remember one thing - every vehicle made is ordered from the factory by the dealer. The only difference is whether the dealer picks the options or you tell the dealer which options to pick. The factory treats it the same.
  17. I haven't seen the SRX in any comparisons the last year, now that you mention it. I wouldn't consider it just based on looks. It's hideous IMO.
  18. The chances of having 4 leaky tires all at the same time are slim. Possible, but slim. Besides ruling out the possibility of someone messing with you, checking the pressure every day (or 2 or 3) would tell you if it was a slow leak or all of a sudden. You can't have too much data when you're trying to troubleshoot a strange problem.

Besides being able to check the pressure in 3 minutes without having to drive to the tire store or wait for the idiot light to come on, you'd be able to tell if they're losing air gradually or all of a sudden. I still think it's possible that someone is letting the air out of your tires and this would confirm that.
  20. Get a tire gauge and check them yourself.
  21. These types of problems can happen with a new vehicle. It's usually caused by a last minute design change or a supplier making a change unbeknownst to Ford or just a supplier screw-up. The good news is that once these types of problems are fixed they're unlikely to reoccur. And they're likely to show up quickly so they're covered under warranty. It's a PITA but not indicative of long term problems.
  22. The problem is your city driving and my city driving can be totally different. Too many variables. At 5K you should be getting your best mileage. Winter fuel in cold climates will lower mpg as will idling to warm it up.
  23. How do you know it's Sync and not your phone?
