  1. I have been neither rude nor sarcastic with you and trust me, I can do both pretty well. You didn't like it when I said the problem with your Treo and Sync was probably the phone, and it's been downhill ever since. Rude: RTFM, moron! Sarcasm: Gee, you'd think they would put stuff like that in a book in the glove box where you could find it when you have a question. I help a lot of people and they are all thankful - except you.
  2. You know what's rude, Lex? Asking the same question over and over and over....in multiple places.......even after it's been answered by 2 different people. And it's not only rude, it's irritating. And you know what I'm talking about.

I'm 90% sure that's all pre-programmed at the factory and there are other factors that may have caused it to shift differently now than before. But I don't know for sure.

Of course it does. It says "provide consistent shift feel over the life of the vehicle" which is exactly what I described. I know the person who supervised the calibration of many of Ford's transmissions and he explained how this works. There is a table in the PCM (computer) that says what shift pressure to use for each shift and at different RPM and throttle position. The software compares the time it takes to complete each shift with the factory specs and adjusts the pressure if necessary to keep the shift times in spec. There is no mention of adjusting to individual drivers or driving styles. Of course different drivers with different styles will exercise different parts of the shift pressure tables (WOT vs. half throttle, etc.) so it may feel different from one driver to the next but that's just a side effect of the learning strategy.
  5. Oh please - if the OP knew that the answer was in the OM, don't you think he would have looked there instead of posting the SAME QUESTION a second time? A lot of people actually FORGET that they even have an owner's manual or that it might contain the answer to their question. If we actually DID know the answer but chose not to give it then your response might make sense, but that's not the case. And while I might be guilty of a few sarcastic remarks here and there I've seen nothing of the sort from bbf2530. IIRC we both went OUT OF OUR WAY to help you with your purchase, even though you kept asking the same questions over and over. And over and over. Get over it. And RTFM.
  6. I thought it was very courteous of bbf2530 to kindly suggest reading the OM since he did not know the answer and was simply trying to help the original poster get a quick answer. Just saying RTFM would have been the discourteous answer. To me it's like someone sitting at their desk with a dictionary and asking someone else how to spell something.
  7. Neither bbf2530 or I own an Edge (yet) so we don't know the answer. We would have to go look in the owner's manual. Nobody else has volunteered the answer so apparently they don't know either. The manuals are available here on this website and online (I provided the link) therefore if you have the ability to log in here and ask a question then you have the ability to look up the answer. I'm sorry if anyone is offended, but I consider it rude to ask someone to do something for me that I can just as easily do myself (in less time). Besides, there is a plethora of information in the owner's manual that an owner needs to know.
  8. Why shouldn't you dig out the manual? Why would someone post something to a website and wait hours for a reply when the answer can be found in 5 minutes just by opening a book that they should have already read? And in case you're away from the vehicle, the OMs are available online somewhere on this website and for all Ford products here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/owne...als/default.asp I'm sorry but it's irritating when some people ask to be spoonfed.

Does the brochure just say "adaptive" or does it explain it in more detail? When Ford says "adaptive" they usually mean the logic that I described about adjusting the shift pressures for perfect shift response, not adapting to driving styles.
  10. I understand that, but it doesn't hurt to ask. They may have demos or dealer owned cars that can be tested. You could also check the owner's manual: https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/owne...als/default.asp
  11. It will. You'll have to find someone to take over the lease. What I meant was don't pay thousands of dollars to get out of the lease (or sell a car you're buying and take a huge hit in depreciation) just to save hundreds on fuel. If you're also going with a cheaper car then that might offset it a lot more or since you drive so many miles your break even point will be a lot sooner.
  12. Try it with just the speaker upgrade first - you may be surprised at the difference. Polk Audio would be an alternative to the Infinity Kappas - both are excellent. If you do get an amp, check the ohm rating on those speakers. IIRC the Infinity Kappas are 2 ohm rather than 4 ohm.
  13. That's what it says on both the Ford website and kbb.com - DVD NAV requires Vista Roof and audiophile stereo. Must be a recent change.

I can't say for sure about the Edge/MKX tranny as that's new but in the past Ford's transmissions would only learn the proper shift pressures at certain RPM and throttle positions. This would allow it to adjust for manufacturing tolerances and wear over time. If a shift takes too long it increases the pressure for the next one until it fits the factory spec. Same for shifts that are too fast. They did not "learn" the driver's style. It's possible the 6F in the Edge/MKx does that but I really doubt it.
  15. The computer is very accurate - usually within 0.5 mpg. But you have to remember to reset it when you fill up and understand it's giving you a real time average since you last reset it.
  16. I think Ford will take the lease back 2-3 months early (or extend it a few months) if you're getting another Ford vehicle. I don't think they'll take it back this quickly without a major penalty. You'd most likely have to find someone to take over the lease. What would you replace it with and how much do you think you'd actually save? You may not save enough on gas to make it worthwhile. Just make sure to do the math based on estimated MPG and number of miles driven. Many people got rid of vehicles that require premium fuel because of the cost, but they probably spent thousands of dollars more when in reality they were only saving a few dollars per week. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish.
  17. That is a plant policy, not a Ford or UAW policy.
  18. The nav screen is not locked - you just can't enter a brand new destination. I think you should be able to select a re-route while in motion. I could try it on my aviator but I think it's a different system.
  19. fanningb had the same problem back in December (displays a Mobile number but doesn't respond to voice command to call xxx at mobile). Unfortunately he/she never posted a response or solution.
  20. I'd try a new one from radio shack first, then try an online store or Frys electronics.
  21. Make sure the tags are not in all caps - Sync interprets those as acronyms. Someone else had a similar problem but don't remember the solution (if there was one). Do a search.
  22. Honda's lawyers haven't dealt with some of the lawsuits that Ford's lawyers have. Maybe they'll loosen up if the competition is doing it.
  23. Hand held devices are not designed into a vehicle and are not sold by the vehicle mfr, therefore it is unlikely that Garmin could be held liable for a vehicle accident. Auto mfrs, OTOH, are extremely vulnerable thanks to stupid juries that blame the big companies and require absolutely no personal responsibility. Voice controls work fine. The only restriction is that you can't enter a new destination which requires typing the address, looking at a list, etc - not things you want to do while driving. You can choose a pre-entered destination.
  24. It's the cheap splitter. Verify by connecting each one individually without it.
