Ford passes the buck on phone pairing
akirby replied to On The...'s topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Your expectations are unrealistic. Ford supports Sync - cell phone mfrs and service providers support the cell phones. If you bought Quicken for your Windows XP pc and it didn't work, would you expect Microsoft to call Intuit on your behalf? I certainly hope not. As for dealer illusions - Ford has no control over what the dealers tell their customers. Unfortunately. -
Ford passes the buck on phone pairing
akirby replied to On The...'s topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
How in the world could you honestly expect Ford to keep up with all the different cell phone providers, phones, plans and firmware levels? And why should they contact YOUR cell phone mfr or service provider if their product is working as advertised? I think Ford has gone above and beyond with the testing they've already done to date and published on the website. To suggest they should start contacting cell phone providers and mfrs is ridiculous. -
Are you using it in automatic mode or manual mode?

Power takeoff unit. Sends the power to the rear wheels.

Ford passes the buck on phone pairing

There's the rub - VAST amount of phones available from different carriers - and if you include all of the older phones still in use the combination of phones, carriers and firmware levels is staggering - in the thousands I'm sure. Show me another bluetooth device that actually tests and lists phone compatibility by mfr, model and carrier. They don't, because it's insane to try and do it and to keep up with it over time. All you have to do to test it is go by a Ford dealer with your cell phone and try it. That's better than a chart anyday. As for suggestions - contact Samsung and your phone carrier just like they told you to do. This isn't R&D - it's a matter of phone carriers and manufacturers not supporting new features. -
It's been fine all day. There was a database problem and it sounds like they had to recover from backups. The last 2 days of posts were lost.

In other words - it was completely faithful to the original............

Not 100% clear whether it's an engineering/design issue or just a bad part but it appears to be the PTU and not the seal. The good news is once it's finally fixed it shouldn't reoccur so no long term reliability concerns.

Absolutely. If you check the first few pages of your Owner's Manual you'll see that it just recommends that you vary the RPM, so don't leave the cruise control on one speed for long periods. I would vary your speed by at least 10 mph every 15-20 minutes and it probably wouldn't hurt to stop every hour or so, even if it's just for a couple of minutes.

07 MKX and rolling down windows via remote>

Did you see this note? Note: The ignition must be in the 1 (LOCK) position and the accessory delay feature must be not activated in order for this feature to operate. -
Lex - this is what you wrote at the beginning of the thread. You said that there was no benefit from the status checker because it already knows what version you have. If you had installed the French or Spanish update previously, that did not have the status checker built in yet, so those people need to run the status checker so the syncmyride database is 100% up to date and in sync (pun intended) for everyone that actually runs the status checker. Again - just because someone downloaded the update doesn't mean they actually installed it. You were correct in that anyone who had not installed an update apparently doesn't need the status checker (but it won't hurt to run it) - that is clear now from the emails. Can we agree on all that and move on?

The problem is you're assuming that all of the OEM versions are the same, and that's not a good bet. E.g. don't you think that new Sync modules being put into cars right now already have that foreign language update? So even if you're OEM and haven't upgraded you could have one of at least two different versions. I don't want to keep arguing either but you keep making incorrect statements about things you don't understand even when people who do understand tell you differently (and not just me, either).

Still think it's a scam?

They can be combined however I think the $1500 rebate is the same national rebate and free Sync is the local rebate that gets added for a total of $1900. I don't think there are two different $1500 rebates but you can check with the dealer to be sure. At least that's what it showed for me when I did a build today.

How Do You Load New Navigation DVD?
akirby replied to Acupuncture's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
The instructions are in the Navigation supplement that should be in your glove box. If it's not: you can get it here: http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs/SPu...mp;VEHICLE=Edge -
There can't be a "list" for conquest customers - how would they know? The dealer is probably talking about the direct mail discounts. Those were directed to individuals.

I had the Porterfield R4S pads on my 2000 Lincoln LS. They stopped like an anchor and had almost no dust, but they were a little squeaky (a few hard stops periodically fixes it) and not so great when they were stone cold. Call them and see if they have pads for the Edge if you're interested - they don't always have every vehicle listed on the charts. The LS pads were not listed but they had them.

This should be fixed once the Navigation and Sync modules are merged (which I think is happening later this year on some models). Right now they are separate modules (voice controlled nav was in place long before Sync) thus the need to determine up front which one to send the command to.

I SCORED on my ordered 2008 Limted.. oh yeah
akirby replied to Lex Talionis's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Actually, the dealers do not know about future incentives. At least not more than a few days in advance. Those are set by Ford corporate. -
It's sad because I think it's really holding back the domestic mfrs. The imports don't have dealerships that have been around since the 50's and I'm sure they have more favorable franchise agreements that give them more control. I hope the new Ford management team will take a harder stance with bad dealers (while staying within the franchise laws of course) and do whatever it takes (including financial incentives if necessary) to fix the problem.

Memory package what am I doing wrong
akirby replied to C4SMAJ's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
It doesn't matter which key. Follow the instructions that bbf2530 posted and it should work. You're probably just missing a step. -
Recalls are for safety issues, not known problems. And if you think Ford has any influence over how the dealers perform service, other than what they cover or don't cover and how to do the repair then you don't understand automotive franchise laws. The dealers have way too much power and unfortunately every time Ford tries to do something to improve the customer experience the dealers sue them (and win). Go look up the infamous blue oval certified program that they tried to institute a few years ago. Gave the dealers monetary incentives to be certified which included a customer service score. Dealers sued and the program was reworked so that it was basically worthless.

No, it's not quicker than a Cayenne. Probably never will be. It's also about half the cost of a Cayenne. Most people aren't looking to drag race CUVs.
-
How, exactly, is Ford supposed to control the dealers?

What steps did you follow to assign the keys to each of the memory presets?
