Not exactly sure about the technical details, but I do remember a Ford engineer stating that they tried to change it to help with the rollback problem but were denied based on fuel economy impacts. I'm sure it's only a few tenths of a MPG but those things add up.

Instrument Panel Cluster display going "crazy"
akirby replied to Nilton's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
The newer car electronics use a bus similar to your home ethernet network. If one device goes crazy and starts spewing garbage to the bus it can cause other things on the bus to misbehave. Rare but it does happen. -
Hard to say what's "normal" anymore, but this is definitely working as designed. The torque converter stall speed was designed for fuel economy. When the engine is idling, there isn't enough torque applied to the converter to overcome the gravitational force of the hill, so it rolls back. The computer can't control the torque converter stall speed. It can only force it to lockup and if it did that while sitting still the engine would die. I guess it's possible to make other changes in the transmission controls but the only software remedy I can see is to increase the idle RPM. It's not a safety issue (I assume the NHTSA item is just a user reported problem - doesn't mean the NHTSA will take action). It's not nearly as bad as driving a car with a manual tranny, and people manage to drive those on hills with no problems. It's definitely a PITA, but not serious and not a safety issue.

I can't see anything that could be done via the PCM that would reduce the rollback since it's a mechanical function of the torque converter (stall speed) unless they just raised the idle RPM.

Based on my experience with complicated software projects I'd say it's probably not a conscious decision to disable them but rather some series of events or even unrelated issues that led to that result. It's more likely that the Edge was originally going to get a cheaper control panel without the LEDs but it turned out to be easier and/or cheaper to use the same one for both vehicles but they didn't go back and change the wiring harness on the Edge. If it was done to save money then you wouldn't have the LEDs in there to begin with - they're expensive (compared to a wire).

The 07s don't come with Sync. I think he's talking about the audio input jack.

Have to pay for 2nd key from ford???
akirby replied to Cappi's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
It was used according to Cappi's last post. -
It's that way because they do the paint in 3 steps as opposed to one or two, and the paint costs more. All paint jobs are not the same.

And the most easily solved. First, try turning off OverDrive by pressing the button on the shifter. If you need more engine braking, shift to L. This is all explained in the owner's manual.

I was told the same 90 days but it wasn't written anywhere. I refinanced mine after about 45 days. I have a good relationship with the salesman so I assume if it caused problems with their financials I would have heard about it. Ford Credit didn't question the payoff either. I think that's just a standard thing that Ford Credit says but doesn't enforce.

6 months. Subscribe. Probably $0. -
My ears! How do you turn off the alarm?
akirby replied to Phoenix's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
That's definitely different from how it used to work and I would at least report it to the dealer. The manual says the feature can be disabled through the setup menu but apparently it doesn't do it permanently - which it should. It's possible that a software update might fix it at some point. Won't hurt to ask. -
It can't - that's a mechanical function of the torque converter.

That's the way Ford doors have worked as long as I can remember. This has nothing to do with automatic or power door locks. The front doors can be opened by just using the handle whether they are locked or not. This allows for a quick exit in an emergency. There is a manual connection from the handle to the door lock so both operate together. Note the rear doors don't do this (for child safety reasons I imagine). Also note that manually opening a front door has no effect on the other doors - they stay locked.

My ears! How do you turn off the alarm?

I was hoping that someone else who has one could confirm what you're seeing (or not seeing). When you put it in Reverse - are you saying that you don't get a message on the message center showing the reverse parking sensor status? When you say you turn it off through the setup menu - is that with the car in Reverse or Park? Go into the setup menu with the vehicle in park, and turn off the reverse parking sensor (go back in and verify that you actually turned it off, then turn the vehicle off and back on and check it again. -

Can't someone who owns one just try it? -

On my Aviator when you put the vehicle in reverse the reverse parking sensor menu shows up on the message center and you can turn it off temporarily by just pressing the reset button - you don't have to go into the menu. Have you tried going into the setup menu (when not in Reverse) and turning it off? Then go back in and confirm that it's off. At that point it should not come on when you go into reverse. If it does I'd say it's definitely a bug. It's possible that you're either turning it off temporarily or not actually turning it off in the setup menu - that's why I suggested going back in and verifying that it's off. Those menus can be tricky. -
Actually they're posted here on this site as well as at the link I just posted above.

AutoLock locks all the doors after you reach a certain speed. AutoUnlock unlocks all the doors when you stop the car and open the drivers door. Your doors don't unlock when you pull the key out - they unlock when you open the door.
-
Actually, that's the AutoLock feature. Related, but totally separate from the AutoUnlock feature.
-
The manual is quite clear: Autounlock This feature automatically unlocks all vehicle doors when the driver’s door is opened within 10 minutes of the ignition being turned off. The front doors on all Ford vehicles will unlock and open if you just pull the handle. The rear doors will not (this is different from the child safety locks). This feature, if enabled, will unlock all doors when you OPEN the driver's door (not when you put it in park or remove the key). I have this turned on in my Fusion and it works exactly that way.

Nobody except Ford knows how the incentives will change (not even the dealers) and I've never seen any advance notice on them anywhere. So your guess is as good as anyone's.

If you could convince Richard to ban a few of the really bad trolls that would probably free up half the storage space.

If it was me, I'd look them up online: https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/owne...als/default.asp If I asked the same question twice on different days with no response and someone who did not know the answer politely pointed out where I could find the answer I'd say thank you. But that's just me.

The factory motorcraft 5W-20 is a synthetic blend - no real reason to use anything else during the warranty period.
