  1. Look at it this way - even if you needed all those maintenance items - which you probably don't - would you rather pay for them all up front even though some you won't need for 3 years? Or would you rather pay for them at the time you need them, if and when you need them? This is nothing more than an insurance policy, just like extended warranties. If it was really cheaper for you (on average) the people selling the plans would go out of business. Sure, you can get lucky on one or two vehicles, but in the long run (key word long) you're better off insuring yourself. I haven't bought any extended warranties on anything for the last 15 years at least. I've probably saved between $6K and $8K by not buying them, and I've only had to spend a few hundred on repairs or replacements that would have been covered. Right now I'm several thousand dollars ahead and even if I had to replace an engine or transmission tomorrow - I'm still ahead.
  2. As bbf2530 pointed out, that used to be the case but with today's engines the tolerances are much tighter and the parts are better such that no special oil or procedure is required. Follow the factory guidelines and you'll be fine.
  3. Only with Automatic climate control, not manual.
  4. I thought so but can't find it now. It wasn't important, just a little humor about the cross drilled brake lines.
  5. I believe it has an anti-syphon design in the filler neck so the only thing to worry about is someone putting something IN the gas tank that shouldn't be there.
  6. I had 3 letters right....... Did you get my PM?
  7. I hear Hale has cross drilled headrests that perform and look better......
  8. Also understand that fuel mileage will vary with the time of year due to temperature and local gasoline blends. Anything with 10% ethanol will cost you 1-2 mpg typically as do the other winter blends.
  9. Braided stainless steel brake lines will help the sponginess if they're available.
  10. That doesn't sound right at all. Have the dealer re-check it or ask another dealer.
  11. It will make a noticeable improvement. Whether it's enough or not is subjective.
  12. Doesn't she drive an Audi now? That's usually enough for conquest rebates.
  13. Just a suggestion - don't overlook other sources such as the passenger visor. When the passenger visor in my Fusion is loose, the noise sounds like it comes from the rear passenger seat. Even now I have to remember to check it first. Not saying that's it but I would rule out the visor, anything loose in the door handle or pockets and the seat belt clasp.
  14. That typically includes all possible rebates, even those that can't be combined, and you probably won't qualify for anyway. But it also includes the dealer's discount from MSRP which is usually worth $2K or so at least. And they're probably making some of it back by charging a large documentation fee or other fees. The key is to get a drive out price based on your eligible discounts and rebates.
  15. Different computer and different transmission.
  16. The memory positions should be programmed to the unlock button on the keys - if not you can do it yourself. That way when you press the unlock button it moves to the correct memory location and you don't have to hit the button on the door unless you don't have the right key.
  17. Since none of the Edge versions come with that feature, none of the PCM codesets will have it either. You need the software in the PCM to control it. That works on cars that offer the feature - you just change the shifter and reflash the PCM.
  18. I'm betting the cable you're using is mono, therefore it's only transmitting the left channel. Or the audio jack itself is defective.
  19. Nope - position 9 is a check digit - doesn't mean anything. position 10 is the model year but you can't get the month. Check the 2008 VIN guide in my post #2.
  20. Up there I think winter tires are required, possibly with chains. Since it's a one time deal, just buy a set of oem sized winter tires and keep the same wheels. The Bridgestone Blizzak DM-Z3s run $110 at tirerack.com plus installation. Or you can buy a 17" wheel and tire combination to save your oem wheels from the salt and ice and when you're done just sell them.
  21. I know many Ford owners who have checked theirs on various vehicles and it's usually within 1/2 mpg, sometimes 1-2 mpg.
  22. If you have the message center you can set it for Distance to Empty - that's a little more accurate than the analog fuel gauge. But the answer is if the needle is close to E then you need fuel - period. There is usually a built-in 1 or 2 gallon reserve but you don't want to use that unless absolutely necessary. In other words, don't make a habit of going past E.
  23. I'm betting Brilliant Silver is so close to Vapor Silver you'd have to put them side by side to tell the difference. At least that's how it usually works.
  24. Please check that paperwork - Costco pricing is never below invoice AFAIK not counting rebates.
  25. Of course they're working on it - do you think Ford enjoys replacing wheels knowing they'll have to replace them again? But you don't fix things like this overnight and once it's fixed it takes time to get the fix into the manufacturing process and get enough stock produced for both new vehicles and to replace the ones already sold.
