  1. I've only heard of a couple of wheel bearing replacements, but not the other 3 problems. My guess is they misdiagnosed the problem the first time. Hopefully they'll get it right this time.
  2. $2660 off msrp plus the rebates sounds like a decent price. We chose the White Chocolate (might be a different name now but same basic color) over the Vapor Silver. It's probably even lower maintenance than the silver and looks great. It's a tri-coat finish and the depth is amazing. You don't need special skills to take care of a black car - you just have to use the right equipment and technique, and you'll have to wash it more often. Use car soap (not dishwashing soap) and rinse the car thoroughly to remove as much dirt and dust as possible (top down). NEVER use a sponge. NEVER. That is what leaves the spiderweb scratches you see so often. NEVER let the dealer wash it - they typically use sponges or other improper tools that leave tiny swirls and scratches. Avoid the cheap car washes - have it washed by hand at a good shop or use the high end car washes that use soft cloth strips. This is usually where the expensive cars go. Use a wool mitt (or I've heard microfiber towels work, too). The idea is to remove the bad stuff and keep it off the surface of the mitt or towel so it doesn't get rubbed into the paint. Rinse OFTEN. Do not use a chamois or towel to dry it unless you have to. Mr. Clean makes a rinse system that softens the water so you don't get water spots. Use clay bars to remove surface contaminants and put a good protective finish on it at least twice a year - 4 times would be better. Some people swear by Zaino, others prefer good carnauba wax. They all protect the finish. Lots of good info at www.meguiars.com.
  3. Ditto for people who ask questions that are easily and obviously answered in the owner's manual. If you're too lazy to get the OM out of the glove box and read it or look it up online, then why should I waste my time doing it for you? That was a general comment and not directed at any one in particular.
  4. New PTU, new seals, multiple repair attempts. You're right, they're not doing anything. You have every right to be upset and frustrated. You can blame Ford for not being able to fix the problem in a reasonable amount of time but you can't say they're not trying. I've seen these types of problems before - the fix works in the lab but not in the field. It usually is due to improper installation but not always. I'm sure they are also having to work with an outside supplier. It's still their responsibility and their problem - just trying to put some perspective on why it's taking so long.
  5. That's why they use safety glass. It will either stay in place like the windshield due to a layer of plastic embedded in the glass or it will shatter into tiny round pieces like the side windows. No sharp edges either way.
  6. Already tried that, but most here don't want to hear it. The only people who have blind spots are the ones who don't adjust their mirrors properly and who don't glance over their shoulder. I like the mirrors and the concept, I just don't agree that they're necessary to prevent accidents.
  7. Automotive glass can and will shatter for seemingly no reason - moonroofs, rear hatches, etc. It's not normal but it does happen occasionally from hidden damage, defective glass, etc. That said I don't remember hearing anyone else with that problem.
  8. Yes, it's functioning normally. Why would you expect the roof to close automatically when you exit the vehicle? If it did that you would never be able to leave it open on a hot day, etc. As for the light, I haven't checked mine but sometimes the switch has 3 settings - OFF/ON/Auto. Auto allows it to turn on and off automatically.
  9. I think LooseCannon is simply driving with a heavy right foot which causes a lot of downshifts out of 6th gear.
  10. You mean by attempting to fix the problem numerous times? I don't see any problem here with Ford's efforts - they're attempting to fix the problem including making new parts. I don't hear them turning anyone down or trying to deny the problem or say that it isn't a warranty issue. And they're paying for multiple warranty repairs on some vehicles. The only bad thing they've done is not fix the problem permanently. I think part of the problem is that the dealer's aren't installing the seals and new PTUs correctly. Outside of that it's either a supplier issue (still Ford's responsibility), a shortage of ford engineering resources or just a really hard problem to solve - or all 3. I agree that it's a problem that never should have happened and it should have been fixed months ago. But I don't think Ford is treating it's customers badly (yet at least).
  11. Actually, it doesn't *burn* slower, it's just harder to ignite. Once it ignites, it burns the same.
  12. So you'd rather save a few bucks on speakers while your friends, family and neighbors lose their jobs? I don't think you understand the impact this has on your community and ultimately on you.
  13. That makes no sense - this is an isolated, single part issue that's not at all related to the F150. If this was one of many such problems on multiple vehicles or if Ford was ignoring the problem altogether then I could understand. But it's not.
  14. I'm averaging 18.5 now with 8K miles and 70% city driving. I can drive the same exact route to work in the same weather, same vehicle, etc. with no traffic and hitting all the lights green and manage 24 mpg in my V6 Fusion. If I hit lots of traffic and lots of red lights it can be as low as 18 mpg. There is no such thing as "typical" city mileage - there are WAY too many variables including the one sitting in the driver's seat.
  15. From the owner's manual: LIFTGATE The liftgate area is only intended for cargo, not passengers. I suppose they could have put a manual release in the cargo area, but then again how many folks lock themselves in the cargo area for more than 10 minutes? As for the Nav system - only one mfr in the U.S. allows destinations to be input while moving. It's far more distracting to type in an address or look at a map while driving than it is to tune a radio or change the hvac settings. It doesn't matter how many warnings or disclaimers they put on there - someone will sue and probably win due to stupid juries. Ford's solution is to allow verbal input of destinations on the new navigation systems - that's the best solution.
  16. The Lincoln warranty only provides for "transportation" - which could be a shuttle bus. They used to provide for a similar "loaner" vehicle but that was removed years ago. That said, most dealers provide loaners or rentals for warranty work, but it's up to the dealer. Mine even gives loaners for Fords and Mercuries in most cases.
  17. The fact that they are incurring repeated warranty repairs is all the encouragement they need. They've already changed the PTU design (new part number) so they're obviously TRYING to fix the problem. If they were ignoring it or not trying to fix it then I could understand. I'm sure Ford is just as frustrated at not being able to solve it as the owners are. If it makes you feel better to complain then be my guest, but it won't get the problem fixed any faster. And I haven't heard of any fires - that's a bit of a stretch.
  18. What, exactly, do you think a recall will do? Ford is already addressing the issue and trying to fix it. They're not refusing to repair anything. It's taking longer than it should, but I don't understand how reporting it will change anything. And I still don't think it's a safety issue, so a recall is not likely.
  19. Go to kbb.com or edmunds.com and look up the dealer invoice price. Add $400 and you'll be very close to the actual dealer invoice that the dealer pays. There is usually a 3% holdback that the dealer gets back on top of that but that goes to cover interest and other expenses and they usually won't go below the actual dealer invoice. Anywhere from $0 - $500 over dealer invoice is a good deal, plus you get to keep any rebates on top of that. So if the MSRP was $30K and dealer invoice is $28K with a $3K rebate, expect to pay $25,000 to $25,500.
  20. I have an 08 Edge with no such vibration (and I'm sensitive to it from previous vehicles). Mine is FWD.
  21. It's up to the station as to what they broadcast and where. They control the RDS data.
  22. But it didn't do it when they first drove it off the lot - otherwise I'd agree.
  23. I thought it was to give Lex something to do until the blind spot mirrors were available...... (just kidding, Lex, just kidding)
  24. AWD isn't nearly as prevalent in the South because we don't get much snow.
