  1. 87 octane has the same detergents nowadays, at least at top tier fuel stations like QT, BP and Costco.
  2. This is really a moot debate. If the demand is there the aftermarket companies will come through with products. If not they won't. Doesn't matter what we think.
  3. But what percentage of A3 sales are S3? I bet it's a very small percentage. Also - S3 is a sedan and it's a global vehicle so there is a much larger owner base. Edge ST is NA only. Euro models don't get the 2.7L. The better comparison would be the SQ5. How many aftermarket parts/tuners available strictly for it and not just carried over from S3? Nobody is saying that nobody wants mods, just that it's a much smaller number than other vehicles and that makes it harder to justify the investment by aftermarket parts vendors. A lot of older drivers want more power but don't want mods so they go for the ST. Most of them would probably get a 2.7L Titanium if it was available. Or they just like the looks.
  4. That’s because you’re trying to target the wrong demographic. Those people either want a smaller sports car and/or they don’t want to/aren’t able to spend $50K. The people who are spending $50K on an Edge ST aren’t trying to win stoplight races. In other words you’re in the minority. That’s not bad or wrong but it explains Ford’s marketing strategy. Also confirmed by Livernois.
  5. I think you're missing the point of the ST models in the new Ford. Ford Performance used to do specialty models which would come out a year or two (sometimes longer) after the base vehicle. They were not integrated into the vehicle development process. Now they're using ST as the in house performance model tuned by Ford Performance and extended to more vehicles. They are developed along with the vehicle, not afterwards. Edge ST was the first of these new vehicles, Explorer ST is next. If Ford was still selling Focus and Fusion here we'd probably have the Focus ST and Fusion ST to replace the Fusion Sport. The difference in the Sport vs the ST is the Ford Performance team and it just signifies the top performance model (until they add a RS version). And it's not about beating the competition in stoplight races or autocrosses. It's about generating more sales and higher profit margins.
  6. This was my first thought. Not disabled but rather using the non adaptive housings because of an inventory problem with the adaptive lights. Or it could just be a software problem. Either way now that they know about it (or have admitted they know about it) they will probably fix it.
  7. It's not the same part and yes evap cannisters have filled up with gas either due to the purge valve failing and/or overfilling and it does cause driveability issues.
  8. On a $46K sticker dealer invoice is around $44K maybe $43500. They get 3% holdback from Ford so that makes it just over $42K. There are probably some other incentives based on volume, etc. but not a lot. It really depends on the factory rebates. $4K or higher they were at least breaking even.
  9. Street price is in the high 40s. What else can you get in that price range with similar size and performance?
  10. The GM 9 speed is only used with engines up to 310 hp and 268 lb/ft of torque. GM doesn't have any high output transverse engines. It also makes sense that the new tranny would be used in more fuel efficient applications (smaller engines). But I don't know 100% for sure either way.
  11. A TSB won't help with warranty coverage unless it includes an extended warranty. And it's not considered a safety issue so NHTSA won't force a recall. Almost all insurance covers glass breakage some with no deductible. It's almost impossible to prove whether it was a defect or not after the fact.
  12. They did roll with the 9 speed GM collaboration with the 2.0LEB engine. But they removed one of the gears to make it a 8 speed saying that the extra gear didn't help. But apparently that tranny can't handle the 2.7LEB torque so they upgraded the existing 6F55 to 8 speeds. Big differences between FWD and RWD transmissions.
  13. Just to clarify - the fluid exchange method at the dealership is not necessarily a flush and clean - it doesn't use chemicals and doesn't use force - it uses the internal transmission pump to exchange old fluid for new fluid so there should be no side effects other than lightening your wallet.
  14. I knew they took used motor oil but wasn't sure about other fluids. Thanks.
  15. The downside is that only gets part of the fluid. You have to do it multiple times to even get 80% of the old fluid out. But it is simple. Where do you guys dispose of the used fluid?
  16. Last time I checked the dealer was charging about $175 to exchange the fluid via the cooler lines. This gets 95% of the old fluid out including the torque converter and doesn't use chemicals or high pressure. 30K is a little soon, most people do 60K. The factory 150K recommendation is ridiculous.
  17. Depends on the number of stickers......
  18. Only for Fords. Others may be different. That doesn't necessarily mean you can keep driving - part of that may be dead space in the tank where the fuel can't be picked up.
  19. It keeps 1-2 gallons in reserve.
  20. In auto mode it should only use the floor vents for heat, not the dash vents.
  21. Or leave it on Auto but lower the fan speed manually. It will stay on that fan speed until you change it or put it back in auto mode. Defeats the purpose of auto though.
  22. In auto mode if the fan is too loud just adjust the temperature. E.g. in summer if it’s 85 degrees and you have it set to 70 when you first start the vehicle the fan will be on high trying to cool it down. If you bump the temp up to 80 the fans will slow down and after a few minutes you can lower the temp again.
  23. Aha - I bet that's it. The hill hold feature kicks in when you put it in park, then releases when you turn it off.
