  1. That's only necessary if the outside diameter of the new tire is different than the old ones. You can switch from a 22" wheel to a 20" or 19" wheel and new tires but still maintain the same outside diameter. When you go up in wheel size this is called Plus sizing.
  2. Nope - selectshift is software only. The transmission is already computer controlled. And they did more to the 6F55 than just modify the valve body to handle more torque. The components themselves were beefed up.
  3. Simple - the ignition circuit runs through it. When you put the "key" in, it completes the circuit and lets the vehicle run. When you remove it, it effectively cuts power to the ignition so you can't start the vehicle.
  4. I find it hard to believe that came from the factory.
  5. What happened to the calipers? That's unusual. I suspect you may have been hosed. Calipers rarely fail and when they do it's usually one, not 2 or 3 or 4. As for tires - that's pretty normal for tires nowadays. You can get tires that last 60K or 80K but I sure wouldn't want to ride on them for that long. I'll take better ride and handling and better performance and buy tires every 25K-30K.
  6. But you would only have factory DRLs in Canada and they can't be turned off by the dealer (not legally at least).
  7. Describe your 50 mile trip - what speed and when do you reset the MPG counter - before or after you're up to highway speed? Also note the RPM and speed - perhaps you're not in 6th gear.
  8. My dash isn't nearly as shiny as yours appears to be. I've never put anything on it. I think that helps. Angle of the sun has a lot to do with it as could the seating position, sunglasses, etc. I've actually looked at mine closely and I knew about it before I purchased thanks to this forum, so it's not that I just haven't noticed it. Just to be clear - I can see some reflection but it's not nearly as pronounced as the photos. And it's worse around the top of the center stack but again not nearly as bad as the photos and not enough for me to notice it in normal driving.
  9. I have a 08 with a black dash. It isn't shiny and I don't get the reflections like Lex.

  11. You must not have seen the first few videos showing it blasting across the desert. Let's face it - there isn't much of a market for an off-road only factory truck. So they designed a streetable off road truck. And they seemed to pull it off without compromising the off road capability. Best of both worlds?
  12. I'm not questioning that it's a defect. And I agree that clearcoat provides additional protection for the basecoat. What I'm saying is non-clearcoat paint was used for decades and I don't remember it chipping after a couple of years. If it's chipping without physical damage then the problem is either defective paint or surface prep, not the lack of clearcoat. Clearcoat may have covered up the problem and prevented the chipping but lack of clearcoat isn't the cause.
  13. Mother's Back to Black. Don't EVER use regular wax - that's only for painted surfaces.
  14. The rationale is that there's not enough debris under normal operation to ever clog up the filter. If you have that much debris it's time for a new tranny.
  15. 2 different Ford transmission engineers (who worked on the 5R55 among others) have different recommendations. One says 150K is no problem and the other says to get the fluid changed every 30k. Both say there is no reason to change the filter. It's not like an oil filter. If it gets enough stuff on it to cause problems with fluid flow then the tranny is already toast. I'm not even sure it was ever really "necessary" to change the filter on older trannys either, but it was so easy to do with the pan off that it was done automatically. Or maybe newer transmissions have less stuff to filter.
  16. There is no reason for the blue paint to chip more easily by itself than with a clear coat. If it chips then either something hit it or the surface prep is defective or the paint itself is defective. There is nothing magic about clearcoat. It's just paint without pigment.
  17. My information on the filter came directly from a Ford transmission engineer with 19 years experience. Take it however you want to.
  18. As long as you can get one that matches the interior color then yes - it's just plug and play (power only). But last I checked they were over $300. You can buy any homelink visor off ebay for $50 or less and move the homelink transceiver to your visor. Tricky part is getting the fabric off and back on without cutting it.
  19. Wrong topic, but rolling back on a hill when your foot isn't on the brake - Normal. All automatic tranny vehicles will do it - some just do it more than others. It's a function of the torque converter stall speed. Slipping when accelerating? Not normal. Get it checked.
  20. But it's still designed as an off road vehicle - just check the suspension.
  21. You don't want a supercharged engine for off roading in the desert heat. The 6.2L Scorpion is on the way and will provide an ample power boost.
  22. There really is no need to change the filter. If it's clogged up then the tranny is already toast.
