This doesn't appear to be a durability problem. It's a design/engineering problem or a defective part that fails relatively quickly. Once it is fixed I wouldn't be too worried about it reoccurring after 1 or 2 winters with no leaks. There is no guarantee of course, but that's what it looks like to me.

Transmission fluid leak - at 400 miles???
akirby replied to edgelessee2010's topic in 2010 Edge & MKX
Hard to tell at this point. The problem only occurs in colder climates. The new repair seems to work for most people but we probably won't know for sure until we go through another winter cycle. The actual problem has been compounded by service techs not following the exact repair procedure which is extremely complex compared to normal repair tasks. -
Ok, I misred the "considered suspect" comment. Anything covered by the ext. warranty is, by definition, suspect. Although I think we would have heard a lot more complaints if this was a widespread problem.

There is a TSB for Fusions with the same problem. The solution is to add a grounding strap somewhere. You might have the dealer check that.
-
That is NOT what it says. It says "some" meaning there was probably a bad batch of cores with the problem - not ALL of them. It was most likely a change to the production process or human error that occurred recently.

Do a search here or check syncmyride.com. It's a known problem but I don't know if there is a fix for it. Make sure your firmware is up to date on both the iphone and sync.

Ford Edge has the Brake Override System
akirby replied to accent's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Most do. But some of these vehicles have push buttons and you have to press the button 3 times or press and hold it to turn it off. And some of the shifters are gated and it's not that easy to find neutral, especially if it's a loaner vehicle as the CHP officer's was. -
If you need chains or cables then you probably need winter tires anyway - why not get a set of 17" wheels and winter tires?
-
Yes........... :shades: I think you're being a little too picky on this one. And it's not redundant since you can use it to lock the keyless fob in the vehicle so you don't have to carry it sometimes (jogging, swimming, hiking, etc.) and it still works to let others into your vehicle without the key or keyless fob. If you really hate it that much, you can remove it and have the holes filled and painted. I would think at worst it's a minor annoyance - certainly not enough to keep someone from buying the vehicle if they like everything else.

Saw a Lincoln MKT tonight at local gas station

That sounds like a ripoff compared to our cost difference. Unless ours is being subsidized somehow. -
any have a proclip mount - iphone or other?
akirby replied to jourabchid's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I just bought the Tom Tom car kit for iPhone for my Fusion - it gives you a dock, charging, an audio output jack and an external GPS antenna. It works with any GPS software. I also bought a Pro-fit mount to go with it. It attaches to the screws holding the radio. I had one previously on my Aviator and it worked great. http://store.apple.com/us/product/TX672LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY I'll use the suction cup on the pro-fit mount normally and if I want to use the GPS navigation I'll move it to the windshield temporarily if necessary to get a better GPS signal. -

The average cost difference between regular and premium (in Atlanta at least) is now and has always been around $0.20/gallon. Doesn't matter whether gas is $2 or $4 per gallon the difference is still $0.20. If you drive 300 miles per week at 20 mpg, the cost difference is $3 per week. You waste more than that on one Starbucks drink. -
You've obviously never driven a 210 hp V6 explorer. Weighs at least as much - probably more - with less hp and about the same torque. I don't see any issue whatsoever - people who want fuel economy won't miss the power.
-
First, it's an optional engine, not the only one. Second - this is not the same type of turbo used in Mazdas. Third - it does get better fuel economy - they've been testing these for years now. Fourth - it doesn't require premium.
-
What do you mean by "last year's 3.7L"?
-
I was going to say gloves are for sissies since I live in Atlanta but I'm looking at 3 inches of snow right now. :shades:

There is always a limit to how much can be done in a specific development cycle. I would argue that the 2011 Edge is already at least one if not two or three steps ahead of the competition already. Not that there is anything wrong with wish lists.

I'll take the 2 new engines, upgraded dash and My Ford Touch over sliding armrests and new rear lights any day........
-
Uh-oh. That is definitely not good.
-
What bbf2530 said is essentially correct. The PTU sends power from the front to the rear differential at all times. It's the rear differential that determines when to actually send that power to the rear wheels. Not trying to nit-pick, just add more info. The term PTU is also used on tractors (including lawn tractors). It's a device that's attached to the engine and provides power to add-on accessories (like grass or brush cutters).

The ecoboost I4 won't be available until later in the year (don't know the specific date).

DRL's Daytime running lights
akirby replied to BlazedUp's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Not to mention that it isn't something that can be ordered anyway. It's either standard (in Canada) or not (U.S.). There is no DRL option. -
If you can post a picture we can easily tell whether it's a factory radio or not.
-
If none of the steering wheel functions are working or if they're working erratically then it could be the clockspring (makes the electrical connection between the steering wheel and the car).
-
Either that feature was recently changed or the manual is wrong. On the older models it is definitely 10 minutes regardless of mileage. But it got you to read the manual, so mission accomplished!
