  1. If there were better ones than the OEM plugs don't you think Ford would have used them? Just use the OEM replacements. I wouldn't worry about them until at least 75K. Technically you can wait until 100K but you don't want them to seize up.
  2. Or you could give up your obsession with aftermarket systems and try the factory system. You can always add amps and upgrade speakers if necessary but with all of the new features (sync, steering wheel controls, sirius travel link, etc.) I think factory systems have a huge advantage now.

  4. Simple - for some reason the fordpartner website does not include the $725 destination fee. I don't know why - it's the same on all vehicles. However, if you pull up an actual invoice you'll find that the X plan price printed in the box on the bottom of the invoice already includes the destination charge. The price on the website is not the official X plan price - it's just for reference using standard models. To reiterate - the x plan price on the invoice is what you pay and nothing can be added to it except tax, tag and registration and a $75 doc fee. Period. X plan buyers DO pay destination and FDAF and all the other fees. The difference is that those fees are ALREADY INCLUDED in the X plan price that is printed on the invoice, therefore the dealer should not re-add them to the X plan price. I hope that's clear.

  7. They are not held back so they can be delivered to dealers all at the same time. We've already explained how this works. Please re-read the earlier posts. What Waldo is trying to tell you is that all vehicles made on that date had some type of problem that had to be corrected. This should not be a concern - it could just be a simple software update or a simple part replacement. It's nothing to be worried about. Ford does this with all of their new vehicles.
  8. That requires modifying the doors which isn't typically done on a mid cycle refresh. Expect to see that at least on the new MKX in 2-3 years.
  9. That's what I was trying to explain. The first one that came off the line may have the most things that need to be fixed. The way it works is that during the initial period each vehicle is inspected and marked for repairs or rework if necessary. These are all held until the assembly line produces 5 consecutive days of error free vehicles. If a flaw is found on day 4.5, the clock starts over. Once they hit 5 days then they start releasing new vehicles directly to shipping as they come off the line. Then they go back and start shipping the previously held vehicles as quickly as possible, starting with the ones that have no defects. The ones that have defects are then fixed and shipped.
  10. As some already explained - individual cars may not have shipped yet regardless of when they were actually built if they were held for repairs. New, clean vehicles will ship directly from the line while the repairs are done to the older vehicles. Hopefully it only takes a week or two to get them all out the door but it depends on what the problems were and how quickly they can be fixed. I understand this is frustrating but it's the price you pay for ordering early in a system that Ford has designed to ensure the highest quality for new or significantly changed vehicles.
  11. If you can't find a name anywhere you could try looking online for aftermarket alarm kits and see if one looks the same. Or drop by an aftermarket alarm installer - if it's a popular model they'll know.
  12. Like Waldo says - you'll see several 2010s on the line followed by a 2011, then more 2010s and another 2011. As they ramp up production the ratio shifts to more 2011s than 2010s until it's 100% 2011 models.

  14. First, make sure you get the entire wheel and not just the "rim". The only 2 concerns with buying replacement wheels of a different diameter is that the overall tire diameter is approximately the same (use a tire size calculator - google is your friend). With 18" wheels the sidewalls will be much taller than your 22" wheels to make up the difference. The other concern is brake clearance.

  16. Whiplash occurs when your head moves back rapidly. The old style headrests would not stop this backwards movement and if they were lower than your head could make it worse. The new ones prevent this backward movement preventing whiplash. The new explorer comes with adjustable head restraints which should fix the problem and I assume will start to show up in other models. You might even be able to retrofit the explorer head restraints.

  18. The clock spring is the device inside the steering wheel hub that looks like a wound clock spring (thus the name). It maintains electrical contact between the steering wheel and the wiring for the buttons and the horn while still allowing the steering wheel to rotate. When it goes bad you either get no electrical connection or random ones. It's an easy fix but requires pulling the steering wheel which contains the airbag.
  19. There is also a big difference between a vehicle driven daily on bad roads vs. one driven exclusively on smooth interstates.
  20. Dealer puts in the order just like all their other orders. They assign a priority and when the dealer has allocation available then the vehicles are scheduled in priority order. 10 is the lowest priority - hopefully yours is a 10. If not and the dealer has other Edges with a priority of 10 those get built first. In other words - it's all up to the dealer, the priority and dealer allocation. Ford has a program where they allow pre-sold vehicles to be given first priority without regard to the dealer's allocation but that's only for select vehicles like the 2010 Fusion Hybrid. I'm sure Ford would love to do that for all vehicles but that would end up with some dealerships getting over-allocated and some getting under-allocated and the dealers would never stand for that. They'd sue Ford under the auto franchise state laws and win.
  21. The point is - if you ask a question then you should be willing to accept the advice given, not ignore it or argue with it. If you don't want advice then don't ask.
  22. Asking Maaco for good paint advice is like asking McDonalds how to cook Filet Mignon and Lobster. These parts are painted at the factory all the time. They may require special prep and a special primer and maybe Maaco just doesn't know how to do that. Call your dealer and ask whether they have their own body shop or use a private one and call them. I'm sure they'll know how to do it properly and it shouldn't cost that much more.
  23. I don't like turning them either - seems to just make them more susceptible to warping or other issues. Doesn't help with heat dissipation either.
