  1. They were right about not needing an early oil change but wrong about the break-in oil. It's no longer used - at least not in the Edge.
  2. I think Ford has done all they can do with respect to notifying the dealers. If your dealer doesn't get it then you need to find a new dealer or go escalate to the service manager and then the owner if necessary or call Ford and ask for help with the dealer.
  3. Sure. Why is that so hard to believe? I guarantee if that happened and I told my insurance company that your taillights were less visible because you modified them they'd find you at fault, not me. You might not agree but that's the way it works. There is a reason the DOT approves vehicle lighting and modifications. I say that's a problem especially if it leaves the headlamps on but not the taillights. But that's a factory feature and has nothing to do with someone modifying their Edge. Seriously dude - this has nothing to do with moderation. I didn't delete anything and I didn't call anyone stupid. We're not talking about adding a wing or stickers or paint stripes. We're talking about lights and nighttime visibility or lack thereof. I won't ignore obvious safety issues and I don't expect anyone else to either as long as it's done the right way. None of the responses in this thread have been out of line (except for yours, which is close).
  4. According to the NHTSA the reason Ford's headrests are so far forward is not because of NHTSA requirements but due to the more stringent IIHS whiplash tests.
  5. You must have TWO working keys to reprogram a 3rd key. If you only have one working key then you can't do it yourself anyway.
  6. Just wait until Ford makes it a dealer upgrade. It's planned - they just haven't gotten around to it yet. I hear they're a little busy with bug fixes......
  7. It happens. if you have an extra key you can reprogram it yourself, otherwise take the vehicle and ALL keys to the dealer.
  8. I don't think it's ready yet. The Pandora and one other app were done for demonstration purposes. Or maybe they're letting all the commercial apps get a head start. Who knows.
  9. Bingo. One USB 3g modem, 5 wi-fi internet connections. It won't help phones since they'll usually already have their own 3g/4g connections but it will help ipod touches, ipads and laptops that only have wi-fi.
  10. Because that was one of the beta test apps that Ford worked with to demonstrate the capabilities.
  11. If it's running and the check engine light isn't flashing then it should be safe. Back ordered parts are common even for small problems. They just don't stock many parts nowadays. As you can see it's happened a few times but it's certainly not a widespread problem.
  12. What system update? If your dealer didn't update your system then you didn't get a system update. It doesn't happen automatically. And if your dealer doesn't know about a sync/MFT update then tell them to check again and give them the TSB number. That's ridiculous.
  13. Exactly like HDTV 10 years ago. Stations were broadcasting a HD signal but the content was older 4:3 standard definition upconverted to HD and it looked terrible. And the ones who were broadcasting true HD sources were also multicasting the SD channel taking bandwidth from the HD channel causing pixellation, etc. This happened with the NBC summer olympics but I can't remember which year. HD Radio simply provides a digital transport mechanism - it doesn't guarantee the quality of the content broadcast over that transport mechanism. And just like DTV until the stations turn off their analog systems HD radio will probably not get the investment and attention to meet its full potential.
  14. Of course I'm a member on other forums and of course I understand this is a "common" mod. I have nothing against mods except when they pose a real safety risk and there is no doubt that reducing the amount of light from either your tail or headlamps does that. If a mfr offers a smoked lens then they have also compensated for that with brighter bulbs. I wasn't a moderator when I posted that but it doesn't matter. I didn't delete the topic - I just pointed out the consequences of what was being done. If you're in front of me on a dark rainy night and I can't see your taillights in front of me and I hit you then it does affect me. And the insurance company could deny a claim if they found out what happened. Those are the facts. If someone wants to do the mod anyway then be my guest. But I'm not going to let it be posted without a warning. If you're going to do it at least put in brighter bulbs to compensate - although that might require new sockets and/or wiring.
  15. Get the dealer invoice including destination, add $500 to account for the advertising fee and that gives you close to the actual dealer invoice. Then subtract all available rebates. That's what the dealer pays for the car not including the holdback. It would be rare to get it below invoice. Even if they say it's below invoice they'll usually add doc fees and other fees or they'll short the trade-in to make up the difference.
  16. See reply in Buying and Leasing forum. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/6288-pricing-questions/page__view__getnewpost__fromsearch__1 Post followups there. Closing duplicate topic.
  17. I think it does, however you have to understand that rebates and other incentives can vary widely by zip code, as do supply and demand. There is no need to use TMV. Just get the dealer invoice price for your vehicle the way you want it configured (including destination) and add $500. This will be very very close to the actual dealer invoice price. Now subtract any incentives and that's your starting price. Normal vehicles can usually be bought for no more than $500 over invoice. A really really popular vehicle in short supply might go for MSRP. The Edge would be somewhere in between based on local supply and demand. $1000 over invoice would be a reasonable price. Make sure to ask about the documentation fee - that's just additional dealer profit and needs to be added in when doing comparisons. I suggest you figure out which model and packages you want, then call dealerships and ask for the sales mgr. Tell him/her what you want and ask how much over invoice they want for it. Any good sales mgr will tell you immediately ($500, $750, $1000, $2000, etc.) then ask about the doc fee. Do that to all the dealers in the area and you're done shopping. Any sales mgr that won't tell you isn't worth doing business with. You can also try to get a X plan pin from a Ford employee. That gives you a guaranteed price around $100 over invoice plus a $100 doc fee. You may not get a pin right now but the employees get 4 more in January. There is a forum on blue oval forums just for pin requests.
  18. Do you have the Intelligent Access feature with push button start? It's certainly possible it works that way and isn't documented in the manual, but I could see complaints from someone who left their keys in the car unlocked (but not in the ignition) and came back to find them locked. Of course the keypad would still work. And I can't test it - mine is a 2008.
  19. Try pulling the phone battery and repairing it first. If that doesn't work pull fuse #29 to reset Sync.
  20. According to the online manual 2nd printing it only works when the vehicle is moving, just like it has always done on previous models and like Hockey87 states. Where in the manual did you see a reference to it locking the doors after the vehicle is turned off?
  21. Sounds like the latch froze - that's where the sensor is. I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes chronic or happens above freezing.
  22. Grey's info comes from Ford engineers. I would trust that before I would trust a 3rd party oil mfr. Remember the factory oil is a synthetic blend and you shouldn't have any problems with temps in the teens. Below 0 - maybe. I would wait it out until at least 3K just to be safe. Factory oil should be fine until then.
  23. Both topics were for one vehicle owned by blizzard2010 whose original dealer screwed up trying to fix some relatively minor problems. The dealer never submitted the paperwork to Ford for the repairs and lied to blizzard2010 about it. With a good dealer it would have just been a couple of routine service visits. Not to say blizzard2010 doesn't have a case - he does but it was made 10 times worse by the dealer not Ford. Nothing changed on the 2010 models so there is no reason for such a drastic change on truedelta.com. The sample size isn't large enough to be statistically significant. Sounds like you're looking for an excuse not to buy a 2011 Edge. If so fine - there have been problems. If you're looking for an objective answer then you need to look past a few isolated cases.
  24. Not correct - at least not in the States. The owner's manual specifically says not to add anything and it doesn't say anything about not changing the oil until 1000 miles. Ford doesn't use special additives to seat the rings. Maybe you got confused about not towing a trailer for the first 1000 miles. Here is the quote in addition to the other one already posted. If this is different in Canada please post the relevant OM section.
