That is well known in the electronics world. If it works for the first few months it will last years (with a few rare exceptions). Failures are usually due to poor manufacturing or material defects. Electronics don't usually have moving parts so there's nothing to "wear out".

Or maybe they think they did design it properly and that it works fine for the vast majority of owners. I know I've never had any issues. -

Try using the radio volume control while the Nav voice is active -
On a 2011? Which package did you get?

That's a mighty small sample size. I've kept my last 4 vehicles at least 2 years past the factory warranty. Throw in my wife's expedition and that makes 5 vehicles that were kept 5 years or 2 years past the warranty. We never had a repair on any of them. If I had purchased extended warranties on all of them I'd now be out $7500. If extended warranties always paid out more than they cost then the companies selling them would go out of business. It's a gamble and you can always win on one or two vehicles but in the long run you won't come out ahead. There are other reasons to get them but I don't think it's a given that you'll cover the $700 cost.

I doubt it. Even if it fit physically the wiring was changed to support MFT.
-
Yes. For future reference you can look this up yourself at www.kbb.com or on the Ford website in less than 5 minutes. Do your own research and never ever rely on what the dealer tells you.

Go to the Ford website and click on Models, select SEL and Limited and do a compare. It shows you everything that's standard, optional or not available on each one.

I still don't understand why the Edge controls force you to take your eyes off the road. -
How do you "know it"?

Don't be getting all crazy now.....

Still haven't seen anything official yet. I expect we'll see and hear something from the Detroit Auto Show next week. I suspect your dealer is talking about the 3.5L Ecoboost engine not being available in the Edge which is true. The 2.0L EB is definitely coming - Autoblog even had a pre-production test drive they just published. But no word on availability. Here's a link: 2011 Ford Edge ecoboost quick spin

Finally something we agree on......

The steering wheel controls on my 2008 Limited are just fine. I don't like having to turn on the cruise control each time but that's a safety design on purpose and isn't limited to Fords. Do you have Nav with Sirius? With the Nav screen it's exactly the same as controlling radio stations. Not sure what it's like without Nav. With MFT you get two dash displays that can be changed from the steering wheel controls. How much easier could it be? -
The drain hose may be blocked.
-
Nope. Can't be done right now. The dealers don't have the ability to load and activate the nav software and SD card yet. I expect it to be available at some point but I think right now they're too busy getting MFT upgrades out.
-
The only software you install in the vehicle are the MFT/Sync updates. Pandora and the other stuff gets installed on your smart phone.

Jeff - go to Billy Howell Ford in Cumming and ask for Doug Bollinger. Tell him Allen Kirby sent you. They share inventory with the Mall of GA store so he can sell you an Edge from either store's inventory or he can get it from another dealer if necessary. He's about as honest as you can expect a car salesperson to be and their prices should be in line with or better than everyone else. Our 2008 Edge was purchased from Doug but came from Mall of GA inventory. I've also purchased my 06 Fusion and my son's 05 Focus from Doug and I'll probably be buying a new F150 and/or Focus in the near future. I don't shop anywhere else. PM me if you want more details.

Attempting to buy 2011 Edge sport

When they send it to you they enter it into Vincent. All they have to do is put in your info and it shows up automatically. It also means you can't let someone else use the coupon. -
On my iphone it gives you a choice of where the audio goes - to the connected bluetooth device (sync) or to the internal speaker. I have no idea what options your Vivaz has or where it would be. You'll have to RTFM on that one.

Those are bugs in the system. That's not what CR and Motorweek complained about. They said the system was "overly complicated and distracting". I have not seen actual owners say that about their MyTouch systems.

So they refused to put it on the "Recommended" list but did not put it on the "Not Recommended" list? Was it just due to MyTouch or were there other reasons? Why do you need to pull your eyes off the road with your 2007 Edge to control the radio and cruise control? -
You really have to consider how the vehicle computer does this calculation. Mileage is easy as that's already built in with the odometer, but how does it know how much fuel has actually been used? The only way I can guess is that it counts the number of injector pulses and multiplies that by the amount injected to get the total fuel usage. I don't see how that method could ever be accurate to less than 1 mpg just because of the way it's calculated and the minor variations in fuel injectors no matter how precise they are. We're only talking about a 3%-5% difference here.

It now appears that what CR reported about MyTouch and the Edge/MKX in general and what was reported by sites like autoguide may be different. Apparently the "not recommended" rating was also given to 4 other crossovers in the test and they didn't actually mention any safety concern about MyTouch specifically. If someone has access to the actual CR article please confirm this. -

Some do - mainly GM vehicles. But it's not a legal requirement here in the states so it's up to the mfr. Previous Fords were equipped with them but they weren't activated from the factory - the dealer could go in and turn them on. The 2011 Edge and MKX don't appear to have that option now.
