Make sure you have the latest firmware for the phone. The phone has to support that bluetooth profile and a lot of the new phones don't support that feature. Nothing sync can do about it.

You can't pair or connect different devices while you're moving (over 20 mph I think). Try it with the vehicle stopped.

Latest update BT4T-14D544-BE. Experiences?
akirby replied to Neil McLaughlin's topic in 2011 Edge & MKX
You see this all the time from software companies that do this for a living. Why would you be so surprised to see it from a car company that's never really done consumer software before much less anything this complicated. Obviously they screwed up releasing it too early but the latest update seems to have fixed all the major problems and most of the minor ones. Not sure why you're so paranoid about buying a new one at this point. -
Add nav to a 2011 with myford touch?
akirby replied to tknice's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Please note that pellefson ordered his vehicle with the Nav option - it just doesn't work. This is totally different than someone buying it without the Nav option and trying to add it later. And the 5-6 hour delay I believe is mostly downloading the correct files from Ford and that depends on the dealer's computer and internet connection. -
My god this vehicle is turning into a nightmare.

That's the same trick us guys use with housework. Do it wrong enough times and pretty soon they just stop asking you to do it at all! But I do 95% of the cooking and grocery shopping in my house (plus all the other "man" chores) so I can talk. Except bugs. I don't do bugs, not even crickets. Or reptiles. -
Because if the process doesn't work the entire system is hosed. Could you imagine non-techies trying to do it and then taking it to the dealer after it's hosed and having them spend hours to fix it? It's unfortunate that the dealers are not better equipped and trained for this. It sounds like Ford offered the training and told them what was required but ultimately they can't force the dealer to be prepared.

You don't have to drop and re-add them once they're paired. Sync only supports one connected bluetooth device at a time. If your blackberry is connected and you want to use a different device you have to go to the bluetooth screen, select the new device and select Connect (might be slightly different on the MFT equipped 2011s). I have to do this with my phone and my wife's phone when I leave the house in her Edge. Her iphone connects automatically and then I have to go into the menu and connect my iphone manually.

My god this vehicle is turning into a nightmare.
akirby replied to Jamie Stross's topic in 2011 Edge & MKX
There is a lot of debate whether nitrogen is really beneficial or just a placebo. The biggest advantage seems to be that it's drier than air but then again I've never had a wheel or tire rust from the inside out. Bottom line is if you check your tire pressure regularly either one is fine. -
Recommendations for replacement pads and rotors
akirby replied to Slurp's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Braking, not breaking. And no - it won't change the brake force it just takes out the mushy feel. Even if they did increase the brake force that would not cause the rotors to warp. -
My god this vehicle is turning into a nightmare.
akirby replied to Jamie Stross's topic in 2011 Edge & MKX
Close. It's nitrogen. Nitrogen supposedly leaks out more slowly due to the larger molecules and it doesn't expand as much when hot. I don't see where it would help with colder temps though. Personally I use a carefully measured mixture of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen with a few other inert gases and check my air pressure every 3-4 weeks. Seems to work just fine! -
Way too many parts not to mention the PCM would have to be reflashed and then your PCM code won't match the VIN. You'd be better off swapping for a used one.

Of course you'll have to take it to a Ford dealer for warranty repair. The door panels might be covered if it looks like a defect and not just normal wear and tear.

Almost any name brand leather cleaner/conditioner should work find - Lexol, Mother's, Meguiars plus all the higher end stuff.

They're covered unless you have aftermarket wheels.

Just because you have a problem doesn't mean it's Ford's fault. I don't recall anyone else having worse than normal chipping on their wheels (peeling, yes and that would be a warranty issue). And tires losing air? Once again not a common problem. And watch the slurs. Not only was it uncalled for it didn't even make sense. -
2011 AWD Ford Edge - Fixed the leaky PTU?
akirby replied to mindwarp's topic in All Wheel Drive (AWD)
Power Takeoff Unit - it sends power from the front of the vehicle to the rear in AWD vehicles. -
MFT Navigation and Speed Camera's

What do you mean by "supports speed cameras"? -
Add nav to a 2011 with myford touch?
akirby replied to tknice's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Where did you get that information? We know it comes with the Nav software installed if you bought it that way from the factory but we haven't confirmed that it's pre-loaded otherwise. -
$400 for "mop-n-glo"? That's about $350 profit for the dealer (at least). You can do the same thing with scotchguard and some paste wax. As for the warranty - do not buy a wells fargo or any other 3rd party warranty. The dealer is also making a killing on that, which explains why they "got into the holdback" on the vehicle itself - they're making it up on the other stuff. Only buy a Ford ESP warranty if you really want one.
-
That was a typo. It was $1150 in the original post which makes more sense.

Playing video and viewing rear camera while driving
akirby replied to hancop's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
The problem is even though it's for the passenger, it's easy for the driver to be distracted unintentionally. That said, do a search for sync lockpick. -
Just for the record, I have 4 iphones and an ipad. I don't have anything against any specific cell phones or mfrs. So what you're saying is if they put a disclaimer on the ad that says "not available on all phones" then it's ok. And my point is I don't see how that would affect anything except from a legal standpoint. People who want that feature but don't have a compatible phone are going to be upset with or without the disclaimer. Now if Ford had purposely restricted the feature to Windows based phones or something like that then it would be a different story. But as it stands any phone mfr that chooses to implement the correct bluetooth profile will have that feature. Unfortunately MFT is probably the only major commercial product that uses it right now. Seriously - would anyone NOT buy a 2011 Edge just because it didn't support contact photos with their smart phone?
-
Oh stop it. We already went through this once. It has nothing to do with microsoft. It has to do with the bluetooth interface. Ford coded the bluetooth interface to use the profiles that provide contact photos. They have absolutely NO control over what the cell phone mfrs provide as far as bluetooth features and compatibility. This is an industry standard published interface - it's not something that microsoft created. The same goes for reading sms text messages. When sync first came out they did a lot of testing and published which phones supported which features. But with all the new smartphones and OS upgrades it would be almost impossible for them to test and keep up with every phone, os version and provider. It would be nice if they did. The only thing Ford could do is put an asterisk that says "only on phones that support that feature" but that wouldn't have really changed anything. You'd still be upset and claiming false advertising. You should complain to the cell phone mfr for not fully supporting the bluetooth profiles. They're the only ones who can change it.
-
It would be nice if Ford could test and publish all of the feature compatibilities with all phones but given the huge number of new phones and OS versions and providers and how fast these change I don't see Ford being able to keep up with it - at least not without adding an entire team of full time testers. They did a good job of this when Sync first appeared but things were much simpler then.
-
Perhaps you missed the other discussions. It's your phone, not MFT. Wilson had a new Windows 7 phone and it does display contact photos. Your phone must support the feature otherwise MFT can't access it. Talk to your phone provider/mfr.
