That sucks, but I don't see where corporate greed has anything to do with it. It was an engineering problem and/or a part problem. Unfortunately the procedure to fix it is more complicated than other repairs and some technicians had trouble following the procedure. Ford authorized multiple repair attempts and even replaced some PTUs entirely. It was an engineering/parts disaster for sure but I don't think Ford cheaped out on the repairs.

Go to the auto parts store, not the hardware store.

Page 249 of the owner's manual (3rd printing) If the vehicle is stuck in snow, mud or sand, and seems to lose engine power, switching off certain features of the AdvanceTrac with RSC system may be beneficial because the wheels are allowed to spin. This will restore full engine power and will enhance momentum through the obstacle. To switch off the AdvanceTrac with RSC system, select traction control off in the message center. Full features of the AdvanceTrac with RSC system can be restored by selecting traction control on, or by turning off and restarting the engine.

That doesn't explain the folks who have had theirs fixed with no new leaks, or the lack of failures on the new models. The first attempts at repair were not successful and the final repair process requires a bit of skill by the technician to do it correctly. If you had a recent repair that still isn't working then you probably need to find a new dealer who can do it correctly.

I know it was discussed but I didn't remember anyone actually doing it. Did you post a how-to already?

A few people have reported the same problem. Most owners see a difference but not enough that it's actually hard to read (me included). I think it comes down to individual eyesight with some having a harder time than others. I don't know of an easy fix.

2011 Edge Sport rust spots on front doors
akirby replied to daconfusion's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
That's not what I expected based on your description. That might actually be rust. Get it cleaned up and see if it feels like bare metal. It is possible they missed a spot with the paint gun, -
MOFSTEEL hasn't logged in for a few months. You'll probably have to PM or email.

Compass display is not correct
akirby replied to phlatlander's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Look at another way. Picture a cube sitting on the ground with the direction you're facing printed on each vertical face. It looks like this: ------S----- ------------ E---------W ------------ -----N----- As you walk around the cube, you are facing the correct direction as noted on the cube. But if you notice when you're facing North and looking at the adjacent cube faces - E is to the left and W is to the right. -
Compass display is not correct

Listen, I understand EXACTLY what you're saying and I agree that having N to the left and S to the right looks backwards. But it has to be that way for the compass to work like a ball compass. Picture the ball inside being stationary. If the vehicle is pointing West like your picture, and you turn left to go South then the car rotates around the compass counterclockwise and it now points South. That's the only way it can work. Try this - in a parking lot face North. Then make 4 ninety degree turns. The compass will be correct at all times. If the directions were reversed like you're suggesting then it would be wrong. The ball compasses in my pictures look reversed to just like the one in the Edge, but that's just how they have to be made. -

They are available now. They were not available 2 years ago when the thread was started. -
Compass display is not correct

When viewed from the front the ball compasses all show W to the right and E to the left, just like the Edge. It's very simple - if you're going North and want to go West, you turn 90 degrees counterclockwise. 90 degrees counterclockwise on the ball is to the right, therefore W is to the right and E is to the left. -
Ford will reimburse the dealer for a rental car for warranty repairs under CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES. However, there is nothing in the Ford or Lincoln new vehicle warranty that GUARANTEES rental car coverage for warranty repairs unless you have purchased an extended warranty. Only the extended warranty guarantees you a rental car for a warranty repair. If you don't believe me, go look up the standard warranty and extended warranty descriptions.

Compass display is not correct
akirby replied to phlatlander's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Wrong again. Waldo is correct. The compasses you showed are ones where you move the dial and the needle stays stationary. So of course those show it the way you expect. The Edge is emulating a ball suspended in fluid. the ball is stationary and the vehicle moves around the ball. If you turn left, the pointer actually moves to the right and vice versa since the ball doesn't move. Look at these examples. There is no other way for a ball type compass to work. -
2011 Edge MFT Video While in Motion???
akirby replied to Who-Lia's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
It's exacty the same in the 2011 Edge for the same reasons. Allowing the passenger to use the Nav is one thing but viewing videos is simply not safe because there is no way the driver can guarantee they won't be distracted accidentally. -

Or just look at any suspended ball compass made for cars. They're exactly the same. -
It's easy enough to verify - just go to Ford's build and price website or kbb.com or edmunds.com.

I don't think that option exists any more, if it ever did. You get the choice of 3 routes now and the ability to change the preferences to generate different routes.
-
I think on my 08 there is a button to calculate different route, but it's been awhile since I used it so I'm not 100% sure.

Low Beam
akirby replied to donway's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
As answered in the other thread - you need to adjust the headlamps per the instructions in the OM. They can probably be safely raised quite a bit without adversely affecting oncoming drivers. -
The headlights are typically aimed too low from the factory. Check the OM for adjustment procedure. Try resetting the average MPG every time you fill up (at least). Mileage will improve over the first few thousand miles then level off. Also note that you'll have winter blend fuel for the next few months if you're in a cold state.

I wasn't sure if you were expecting new things to show up on your vehicle automatically or if you were expecting a change to the syncmyride.com website. Didn't understand what "updates made to sync" was referring to.

Check your preferences for shortest, fastest, greenest route and other things like whether to use major highways vs. city streets, etc. You should also have the option to choose another route.
