If it's like the music library - you press A-F once and you get the As. Press it again and you get the Bs. Again and you get Cs. And so on. Did you try that?

Do the Brakes Make Noise When Worn Out?
akirby replied to Feirstein's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
I don't believe Ford has used those warning devices in their OEM pads in quite some time - but I could be wrong. Easy way to find out - pull the wheel and check it! -
You'll never get 100% - I'm sure at least 10% would not recommend it based on any number of factors including they just don't know how it works. Given the recent problems 80% is still a pretty good number. And remember early on we had a dealer rep who reported they had sold 200 Edges w/MFT and only had one problem. The problem was serious for the few that experienced it but in the overall picture it seems the vast majority of vehicles either had no problems or just minor ones.

I agree that Ford should have made the update procedure more idiot proof. But I deal with large IT projects every day and no matter how much you try to prepare the users there will always be some that either refuse to do the training or simply don't get it so I don't fault Ford for some of the dealer's who are still having problems. I think this is simply a new area for most dealers and their employees just aren't tech savvy enough. Ford also doesn't control the dealership's internet connection - some may still be low speed and/or unreliable. Ford told the dealers they needed to order a USB cable to do the updates and most apparently did not. You can lead the horse to water........... And outside of tech certification I don't think there is much Ford can do about it due to state franchise laws.

You can't blame Ford for dealer incompetence. Ford provides the information but they can't force the techs to learn it or to follow the procedures.
-
Your tires are filled with water??? No need to switch to Nitrogen. Benefits are minimal IMO and not worth the refilling hassle.

What "training" do they need to make sure the navigation still works after they reprogram it? It's not rocket science. It's poor dealer service - period.

Ford Interview Concerning MFT
akirby replied to spongers's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
You implied Ford was blaming Microsoft and you clearly know the difference, so your statement was incorrect regardless of what other Ford customers may think. If any of these "lay people" come here and post the same thing I'll correct them too. This is clearly a Ford problem and Ford isn't blaming anyone that I've seen. They're taking responsibility and trying to fix the problems. Just trying to keep the facts straight. -
Ford Interview Concerning MFT
akirby replied to spongers's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
FORD is NOT blaming Microsoft. That came from Ford dealers, not corporate. -
Horse hockey! The manual doesn't say if you LIVE in an area with dusty roads - it says if you operate the vehicle in dusty conditions. If Ford wanted everyone in the SW to follow the severe service schedule based strictly on location then they would say that explicitly. Severe service for transmissions is heat and towing, not dust. Sounds like the dealers are all in on the same trick. If you don't believe you qualify for the severe service schedule then use the regular service schedule. Even if Ford wanted to deny a warranty claim they would have to PROVE that you fell into the severe service requirements which would be almost impossible.

Exactly. I keep telling people that I don't have any blind spots because I adjust my mirrors correctly and I always glance over my shoulder as a backup. Works every time.

Oh trust me - I've said it myself many times. But it's a little over the line for a car forum with female members.

Start with the door speakers. Crutchfield.com is a good reference. Your door speakers are standard Ford 5x7/6x8 size. These would be a good choice: http://www.crutchfield.com/s_1086829CF/Infinity-Kappa-682-9cf.html Start with the front doors, then the rear doors (could go cheaper with the rear doors since they don't add much to the overall sound quality). Then add a separate amp after that if you're still not satisfied, followed by a sound processor.

Where are you measuring the voltage and how? It should all be 12V from the fuse box. Get a fuse tap and find a fuse to replace that's switched. Either you're measuring it wrong or there's something wrong with your voltmeter.

They're hard to repair from what I've heard. They don't come apart - they're permanently bonded.
-
I believe the dealers can download to a flash drive or hard drive, then do the update from there. At least that's what I remember from someone who got the original update last year.
-
Of course you can - but only if the buyout is lower than the current value, which usually doesn't happen unless you buy it out and sell it yourself. Realistically though what happened here is that you overpaid for the lease up front because you paid for 45K but only used 28K - that's why the resale value was higher than the residual. Had you opted for 10,500 miles per year your lease payments would have been a lot less and the residual value (buy-out) would have been much closer to the actual value.

Nope. The hp gain was from Twin VCT (intake and exhaust) versus Single VCT.

I don't recall chrome clad aluminum wheels being sold by Ford fifteen years ago. Examples?
-
When done correctly chrome clad wheels are lighter and more durable than chrome plated steel wheels because they use aluminum wheels and they don't pit over time. Unfortunately it's a relatively new technology and there have been issues with peeling. But it's definitely not a case of cheapness.

Agree on the use of white lithium grease, but WD-40 isn't "junk" - it's just not a grease and therefore isn't meant to provide long term lubrication. It was originally developed as a water displacer - thus the name WD-40 (40th attempt). It also works well as a penetrating oil for loosening rusted fasteners. Some people try to use it for long term lubrication and it's not designed for that.

11 Edge Sync not recognizing music on iPhone (USB)
akirby replied to trockli's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
You can stream music from the iphone via bluetooth. If it doesn't work when plugged in then either it's not indexed yet or there's a problem with the metadata. -
If the set temp starts rising on its own without you changing it then that's a defect either in the unit itself or possibly with the clock spring in the steering wheel or the switch itself.
