Want to buy - but driver legroom might be an issue
akirby replied to Mparky's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Seriously? -
You can't snap your fingers and rewrite a complicated piece of software overnight, which is what you're implying. They screwed up and they're trying to fix it but it will take a few months. Ford is rewriting it from scratch and it will be backwards compatible. Not sure how much else you can really ask for. It would be nice if they never had problems but they seem to be doing everything possible to fix it.
-
Nope - no problems reported here. Just kidding - there are numerous threads but it appears they're all in the 2011 Edge forum. There used to be a link here but I think it got lost in the reorg. Start here: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/6240-2011-edgemkx-my-touch-and-sync-problems/

You don't - the dealer does - same way you get all the other MFT updates. I don't understand why this is so confusing.
-
If it's really missing. But it could also be corrupted software and reloading it could fix it. Maybe someone else with a 2011 nav could try looking it up in theirs.
-
Initial complaints would be more accurate.

I think it depends on how you sit, not your size. I've heard lots of complaints on the Taurus but none on the Edge up until now. Have you tried moving the seat further back or changing the height? -
It's not sealed - it just doesn't require frequent fluid changes except in severe service. The best way is to let the dealer do it - they use lines connected to the cooler that takes out the old fluid and replaces it with new fluid using the transmission pump itself in normal operation. This will change 95% of the old fluid (or more) without dropping the pan (including the torque converter). There is no need to change the filter. If there is enough stuff to clog the filter the tranny is toast already.

He didn't update the maps - he updated the SOFTWARE.

Roof Rails with Panoramic Roof
akirby replied to Bingo's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
The 2012 Edge WILL offer factory rails with the BAMR so there is a chance that you could retrofit the 2012 rails to a 2010 or 2011. Not guaranteed but it would be worth investigating. A hitch mounted carrier is also an option either for bicycles or cargo. -
So if the bank charges you for a debit that you didn't make - how would you know? And yes - I've had this same conversation with my 22 yr old son. It is easier if you don't write checks but you still need to check everything.
-
Even if it's up to date it might need to be reloaded.
-
Did you double check the spelling? Sometimes it can be off by one letter. If it's the same I'd check with the dealer about reloading the Nav software per the previous suggestion.
-
He obviously works for a dealer since his interests are "turning wrenches" and he said he was "working" on a 2011 Edge.
-
If you know where it is you should be able to browse the map and mark the destination manually. At least you can do that on my 08 Edge with the older Nav system.
-
Possibly but it would have to be mounted transversely and there are no transverse V8s in Ford's lineup right now. I think the Continental 4.6 was the last one over a decade ago. And even if you could get a new 5.0 in there it wouldn't fit the FWD transmissions and even if they did fit they wouldn't handle the torque. You'd be better off with a EB3.5L and 6F55 which is already transverse mounted and puts out almost the same power as the 5.0L. The problem then is that there is no Edge PCM version for that engine/transmission combination.

My wife gets gas receipts, leaves them in the car for a few days then throws them away. I asked her why she kept getting receipts if she was just going to throw them away. She said it was in case somebody accused her of driving away from the pump without paying she would have proof that she paid. I asked her how many times that had happened to her or if she had EVER heard of it happening to anybody and she said no - but she still does it. Not to mention the credit card transaction is all the proof you need.

Roof Rails with Panoramic Roof
akirby replied to Bingo's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
I have no problem with sarcasm when it's deserved but in this case there are no threads that provide the answer to the question that was asked - at least not that I could find. Perhaps you can enlighten us. -
Roof Rails with Panoramic Roof
akirby replied to Bingo's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
The 2012 models are supposed to come with factory rails now with the Vista roof. Might be a new design that can be retrofitted. Other than the Thule system I think you're SOL. -
I think Robert mentioned something new a few weeks ago but I didn't really pay attention so I didn't know anything had changed either. I only use View New Posts also.

Ask them to replace the APIM.

I am about to order 2011 Ford Edge , by i need your thought .!
akirby replied to DTA's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Electronics either work or they don't. If it's ok after the first year it will be ok for years and years and years so no worries there. You may have some short term issues but those should be fixed with the new software at some point. If you really like the car and you like the MFT interface (make sure you test it out first) then there is no reason not to buy one. -
They go in the console until we get home then we throw them away.
-
I don't believe it was standard.

On the non-MFT systems if you touch the fan speed while in auto mode it locks the fan into that speed until you hit Auto again. The display will show the fan speed. At least 2 or 3 times per month I get in the Edge and find that my wife or daughter has left it in semi-auto mode with the fan stuck on low. Not sure if the MFT systems work the same way.
