  1. Not only is it a bad idea it's against X plan rules. You must disclose X plan before negotiating. This is only fair to the dealer. If they want to beat X plan they can try but with X plan you get every possible incentive (even dealer cash) and you're protected from high doc fees and add-ons. Keep in mind the dealer gets an additional $400 or so from Ford on the sale so if they're forgoing that they're probably making it up somewhere else (trade-in e.g.). Start with X plan price and negotiate from there.
  2. The Flex, MKT, MKS and Taurus are not small vehicles.
  3. You don't have to wait for a 2010 model. This won't be available on the 2012 models either - that's a major change.
  4. A longtime Ford transmission engineer doesn't even bother to change filters. He just lets the dealer swap out all the fluid every 30K miles. He says if there is enough material in the pan to clog up the filter then the tranny is already toast. Which makes sense if you think about it.
  5. Exactly. Torque steer in a high power FWD vehicle is normal and it takes a lot of engineering work to minimize it.
  6. Ford is not a "veteran company" when it comes to this type of software development - they're newbies. They trusted the contractor to deliver what they asked for on time and it didn't happen. It wasn't a lack of testing - they knew exactly what was wrong with MFT from the beginning but they made a conscious decision to go ahead and release it. In hindsight they realize this was a mistake but if you've done big software projects then you know this happens all the time. They gambled they could stabilize it quickly until the rewrite was ready - and they lost. You can bet it won't happen again though. They HAVE acknowledged the problems several times. They haven't publicly announced the rewrite because they just don't discuss those types of things publicly. It's bad for current business. They'll announce it when it's ready which looks like next year. Does anybody come out and say "our software is garbage so we're going to rewrite it for next year"? Of course not. Yes it sucks if you're having problems now but the next release is rumored to have fixed the rebooting and performance issues. If that's true then it shouldn't be a problem waiting for the rewrite. If not then it will be a long wait.
  7. Stick with FWD - AWD models had leaky seals that are hard to fix. I think Sync may not have appeared until the 08 models but I'm not positive. Other than that I can't think of any major differences between the 07 and 08.
  8. It means you should take it to the dealership for warranty repair. Could be the booster or the ABS.
  9. No it's not. It takes EXCELLENT engineering to control torque steer. It's very difficult and gets harder as power increases.
  10. Nope. The current version was written by BSQUARE who USED to be Microsoft employees. They've been kicked to the curb and the real Microsoft is helping rewrite the software which will be backwards compatible with the 2011 models. Ford is doing everything they possibly can to fix MFT. They've put out almost a new release every month trying to fix the problems and a full rewrite is underway. They deserve the blame for allowing the problems in the first place but they're not software developers and they got burned by a vendor. Live and learn. But you can't blame them for not trying to fix the problems.
  11. Have them check a new one on the lot and see if it makes the same noise (it won't). This should prove it's not normal. If the dealer still doesn't agree find a new dealer. You should get a new fuel pump if it's that bad.
  12. Pull fuse 29 to reset sync/MFT.
  13. Umm.....did the 1987 Sable have 263 hp? Probably more like 163. Hard to torque steer without any torque.
  14. Ford employees, some public and some private. I've heard as early as this fall or as late as next summer. No official ETA yet.
  15. That's your opinion but i think you're wrong.
  16. Don't think so - Ford seems to be putting the new software into the assembly line first. A Ford Focus owner got a preview version of MFT software at the factory last week and says it fixed all of the rebooting and performance issues and it will be released next month to the public. Not sure if it's the same software as the Edge but I would assume so. This was a temporary glitch that should be fixed soon once and for all.
  17. It's part of the MFT software. I assume it's included in the MFT update - we know it's not a stand alone option. Call the dealer and ask.
  18. Wouldn't the wax prevent the sealer from sticking to the paint?
  19. First I've heard of that. Sounds like a cracked or leaky exhaust manifold.
  20. That's better. Just thought claustrophobic was a little over the top.
  21. You can't snap your fingers and rewrite a complicated piece of software overnight, which is what you're implying. They screwed up and they're trying to fix it but it will take a few months. Ford is rewriting it from scratch and it will be backwards compatible. Not sure how much else you can really ask for. It would be nice if they never had problems but they seem to be doing everything possible to fix it.
  22. Nope - no problems reported here. Just kidding - there are numerous threads but it appears they're all in the 2011 Edge forum. There used to be a link here but I think it got lost in the reorg. Start here: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/6240-2011-edgemkx-my-touch-and-sync-problems/
  23. You don't - the dealer does - same way you get all the other MFT updates. I don't understand why this is so confusing.
