It's very likely that it is a defect, but you don't know that for sure unless there was some evidence left behind. If something hit the glass and it shattered you wouldn't know it. It's easier to tell with the windshield since it doesn't shatter and you can see if there was an impact mark. But the idea that it HAS to be covered NO QUESTIONS ASKED just because there has been more than one is wrong.
I think you are asking if the 2008 Ford Edge uses a relay to turn off the lights to protect the battery (accumulator) in case the lights are left on accidentally? The answer is YES - it's called Battery Saver. If either the headlights or the interior lights are left on for 30 minutes they will be turned off automatically so the battery isn't drained.
It may be random depending on where the parking pawl engages the shaft, but it's not going to change over time. It's totally dependent on the design of the transmission and the size of the tires.

I agree. But that doesn't have anything to do with the number of cell phones that support reading text messages and whether Ford can do anything about that.
It's intended to work with a 3g/4g wireless phone connection which would not be available to all devices in the car directly (you can share one 4g usb modem with 4 laptops/smart phones e.g.).
It's also intended to let you use the built-in web browser that is planned but I fear that got pushed back due to all the mft/sync problems. Once you get the web browser you can connect to a wi-fi hot spot and browse from the vehicle display.
Otherwise you're correct - there's no benefit.
No chips on any new Fords but you can get a SCT tuner that will help a little. It won't void the warranty unless it causes a problem (e.g. they won't refuse to fix a bad wheel bearing because you have a tune installed. But if you have en engine problem that could be caused by a tune then they could deny that but they have to prove reasonable cause).
They're all the same and it's called "vinyl". We don't think they could do the conventional roller shade type of cover due to the rear seats reclining. It is rather shoddy.
So what exactly do you think Ford should have done?
Just because you're disappointed that your phone doesn't support this feature doesn't make it Ford's fault.
You should be mad at the cell phone mfrs for not support all the bluetooth profiles.
So now Ford should write their own cell phone firmware for every carrier/every phone so Sync can read text messages?
I suspect if they weren't so busy trying to fix/rewrite the current version they might have more time to do more testing.
But honestly - why should Ford have to test every single phone and OS version out there?
Why aren't you blasting the cell phone mfrs for not providing the bluetooth profiles in the first place?
So why don't you volunteer to go test them? Considering how many cell phones and smart phones are available today and how often new models arrive not to mention OS updates it would take an army to keep up with it.
Show me any other bluetooth interfaces that list a current and complete list of all compatible phones by model and OS version.
I'm not making excuses for Ford here - just pointing out that it would be an enormous task in today's environment for anybody so it's understandable why they haven't done it lately. In the beginning there were far less phones to be tested so it was relatively easy.
It would be nice to see the biggest selling phones updated regularly. Maybe when they finish the rewrite and stabilize it they can devote more resources to it.
First, that post was almost 4 years old.
Second, if the transmission locks up it will stop the drive wheels and it has nothing whatsoever to do with brakes. If you don't believe that, put the vehicle in park and try to push it.
