Cold air intake or just K&N for better fuel economy?
akirby replied to rltrbill's topic in 2010 Edge & MKX
Diesels are different than gasoline engines - more drastic measures are required to make them emissions compliant therefore there is more room for improvements when emissions are ignored. Changing the intake and exhaust on a gas engine won't impact emissions unless you remove the cats. There are basically 2 ways you can get performance without additional forced induction. You can advance the timing which requires premium fuel or you can increase the amount of air available to the engine at WOT. On the latter you can gain a few HP on the top end but you usually sacrifice driveability and low end torque to do it naturally aspirated. Ford tunes for everyday driving not WOT. -
No chrome clad or PVD options listed for the 2016 Edge, but there are several PVD options for the new F150. PVD is pretty cool and looks to be far better than chrome clad. It's like a paint in that it's not electrically bonded - it's deposited by vapor between a base coat of powder paint and a clear coat and can be repaired. I think chrome clad has gone Tango Uniform.

I think they may have quietly discontinued them. Never had a problem with the ones on our 2008 Edge - 6 years old when we traded it and they looked brand new. But repairs were pretty much impossible. It will be nice to not have to hear people complaining about their "plastic wheels" any more if true.
-
Looks just like our old 2008! The best power upgrade is to trade it in for a 2016 2.7LEB Sport. If that's not an option then a SCT or similar tuner is the only way to add any real power and that will require premium fuel to handle the advanced timing.

Now that you mention it - I don't remember seeing any chrome clad wheel options on any new Ford vehicles. Are they still making/selling them?

Clogged air conditioning

That sounds like the drain tube is kinked so it's above the drain pan. -
Probably depends on what you're used to.

So how do you unclog it exactly? Are you forcing compressed air or bleach up into the line? -
I find it hard to believe you couldn't tell a difference. Are you sure you drove a 2.7LT?
-
Not after you've done it once. It should have tabs to hold it in place while you put back the screws. Very very easy.

Maybe you should stop yelling and figure out why the AC drain keeps getting clogged. You're treating the symptom not the root cause. How are you clearing it out? It's possible the retained water is increasing the humidity level causing the rotors to rust over more quickly but that's a long shot. -
Because Ford's AWD is also proactive, not just reactive. It sends power to the rear based on throttle input and steering angle among other things to anticipate the need for rear traction to prevent slipping.

I know what you're saying and I'm sure Ford could go to those lengths to verify the install, but this has been working for almost 6 years and considering how screwed up MFT was to begin with there were more important things to work on. It's possible someone simply mislabeled a file or a file got corrupted. Even companies that only do software don't always catch things like that. Ford is a newbie, so cut them some slack. -
That looks like some kind of aftermarket alarm key. That is not factory. See if there is a module of some kind installed under or around the steering wheel. You should definitely check with your dealer.

This update process has been working properly since 2010 and is still working properly on other vehicles now. They didn't "forget" an if statement. -
It's easy to take off with a drill and a torx Bit. Takes 2 minutes.

Well there you go. Good to know.

I've been doing software development for over 30 years. That's not something you forget to do. And testing doesn't always find every bug. -
I think you have to purchase an ESP before the 3/36K bumper to bumper warranty expires. You can get a Certified Pre Owned Ford but I don't know the details of that warranty. Ford's Premium Care ESP covers a lot but it's not bumper to bumper. Whatever you look at - make sure to check the list of what is and isn't covered and don't go by what anyone tells you.

I guarantee you that's how it's coded. There is a bug somewhere and it's not working as intended. That's not necessarily lazy.
