  1. I don't think that restriction still exists, although some dealerships may not have the appropriate parts or tools to repair some vehicles.
  2. That is a defect of some kind. Not normal. Could be as simple as a bad sensor.
  3. You don't really want me to answer that, do you?
  4. The only difference is if you need something fixed outside of the warranty your selling dealer may be more willing to work with Ford on your behalf for an After Warranty Adjustment. But there is no guarantee.
  5. If it's just an air deflector it won't hurt to do without it for awhile but I would replace it when you can.
  6. It's amazing how well modern vehicles perform in crashes. Glad you weren't hurt more seriously. Sheet metal can always be replaced.
  7. Should be fine. Just have them check it over really well. Hopefully it's just the shield. My son lives in Ballard. Love Seattle!
  8. The bigger question might be what did you hit to cause that damage and what else was damaged?
  9. Who gave you the winter tires? The dealer? The 18s won't fit on 19" wheels so if you were planning to swap tires you'll have to get 19s. But a lot of people buy cheap wheels so that you don't have to unmount/remount the tires twice a year - you just swap wheels and tires. In that case you can just buy 18" wheels.
  10. As long as you have two working keys.
  11. Be careful replacing springs. The springs and shocks all work together with the OEM tires - it's really a package deal and the vehicle weight and even the engine weight plays a big part. Too soft on the springs and you'll affect handling. The 18" wheels should give you the softest ride. Tires would be the next thing to change. Tire rack.com surveys might help. The 09 and 15 are completely different platforms so the parts are most likely not interchangeable. I'll ask the engineer I know if he has any other recommendations but I doubt changing springs and shocks would be recommended.
  12. For me it's just laziness - I like to go as long as possible between fillups unless I expect I may have to make a long drive or get stuck in traffic. Luckily that almost never happens. But I usually get gas around 20-30 mte. I have gotten to single digits when we couldn't find a convenient gas station but that wasn't on purpose. My wife was also taught never to go below 1/4 tank and obviously that is safer.
  13. You should be able to go with 18s - check the temporary spare tire - it's usually the minimum safe wheel diameter that will clear the calipers. Just make sure you keep the overall tire diameter the same.
  14. You still have at least 10% left at E which would be 1.6 gallons. Not that I would push it.
  15. If they're doing a low pressure fluid swap you don't really need to drop the pan or change the filter. As a transmission engineer once told me - if there is enough stuff to clog up the filter then the tranny is already toast.
  16. If the labor was $50 then what the heck was in the $199? ATF ain't that expensive!
  17. My understanding is that CCD adjusts the shocks individually to avoid bouncing and that can lead to a smoother ride. But it's not simply softening the shocks - it's continually adjusting the shocks in both compression and rebound. It reads 46 inputs every 2 seconds. And the springs with CCD are designed with that in mind. That doesn't mean you'll get the same results on a non-CCD vehicle by simply using softer shocks. http://www.shockwarehouse.com/site/shock_absorber_myths.cfm
  18. Shocks are just dampeners that keep it from bouncing up and down on the springs and control body roll when cornering. The tire sidewall and the spring absorb the shocks from the road for a softer ride. The shocks are not going to prevent the spring from compressing over bumps so making it softer won't help. It will affect the handling though when stopping/starting and cornering. I guess if you had a really soft spring and a really really stiff shock it might contribute to harshness but I don't think that's the case for the Edge/MKX. 18" wheels and minimum safe tire pressure is probably your best bet.
  19. You need to have some basic skills. Have you ever done a regedit on windows?
  20. Well let's be clear. They don't really "owe" you a loaner based on the standard factory warranty. if you want a guaranteed loaner you have to purchase the ESP or get a Lincoln. And there is nothing stopping the dealer from giving you a loaner on their dime either. That said I think Ford should go above and beyond in this situation and authorize loaners.
  21. Shocks are not going to give you a smoother ride.
  22. Some condensation is normal but it should go away fairly quickly. If it stays all day or multiple days then it's a problem.
