2014 Edge + Ford Fitted Hitch
akirby replied to Richdem's topic in Cargo, Hauling, Roof Racks & Towing
So on the newer models with towing package there is no additional oil cooling? I guess the larger radiator just cools the entire engine better including the oil. -
Just to clarify, Ford doesn't say it's not possible - they say that they don't offer a Navigation option that can be added (legally) to the vehicle if it wasn't equipped with Nav from the factory. In Omar's case factory Nav wasn't an option and the dealer mistakenly told him it could be added later which is a bit different from North America where it is available from the factory.

Son lives in Ballard just North of downtown. It's a great city/area although it's really damp, dark and dreary in winter.

2014 Edge + Ford Fitted Hitch

I assume both the engine oil and tranny fluid run through the radiator for cooling therefore the larger radiator would provide better cooling under heavy load for both the engine and transmission without separate coolers. In that case upgrading to the larger one should suffice. -
What have you done to/with your Edge/MKX today?

The other very useful scenario is if you're dropping somebody off and they have the only key. Without the honk you might not realize it and drive off without the key. There are 3 very easy workarounds - don't close the door all the way, turn off the vehicle (with IA this is so easy no keys to fumble with just hit the button and hit it again to turn it back on), or leave the fob in the cupholder. -
I used to love Sam and Dave on Two Guys Garage back in the day, but his new show Sam's Garage is nothing but product ads with video that looks like it was shot on an iphone 4.

Pretty sure it's always a running average of the last 500 or 1000 miles.

And that's the part people don't seem to understand. If Ford were to cover all these failures so far past the factory warranty then every vehicle would cost at least $1K more, maybe $2K. You're asking for an unlimited warranty for free. Or look at it this way - you could have purchased an extended warranty that would have covered the repair up to 100K miles for around $1500-$2K. You chose not to pay for it and now you want it for free. It's like going to Wendy's and buying a hamburger by itself, then demanding that they give you fries for free.

Sorry I forgot you were not in North America. Ford did plan to make it available but either couldn't figure out how to do it securely or didn't have the resources to devote to developing that solution. If it was not a factory option and the dealer promised it would be available later then I understand your frustration.

You had the option to buy Navigation when you bought the vehicle. You chose not to buy it for whatever reason.

You and the other 100 million people. If you're that concerned with it, get rid of it.

I don't have an exhaust smell but it does sound like there is an exhaust leak when the engine is cold. Will have the dealer look at it on the next service.
-
And to put that in perspective - they only make around 16M new vehicles per year and they have to continue to supply the new vehicles while making additional replacements. Even with additional factories and resources it will take years.

Factory motorcraft is a synthetic blend as www points out (for all Ford vehicles not just turbos).

So the larger radiator would allow for better oil and tranny cooling? -
This notion that any software or digital product is "free" is maddening. Just because you CAN copy something digitally for free or activate a hidden feature doesn't mean you should. As Waldo points out these companies (or musicians or individual programmers) are making a product and they deserve to be paid for their work. Would you work for free? What if your boss came to you one day and said "nobody is buying our software they're just downloading illegal copies so we can't pay you this week"?

What in the world is going on is millions of vehicles that need new airbags - it will take years to get them all replaced. It's not just Ford - it's numerous mfrs using takata airbags.

2014 Edge + Ford Fitted Hitch

Most likely it was just the hitch and the wiring harness/connector which means technically you're limited to 2K lbs. Engine and tranny cooling would be the concern. -
The reason it comes on at 25% below recommended pressure is because that's the federal law. There is more to it than load rating - tire wear, heat buildup, etc. And I can almost guarantee your wet stopping distance will be longer. The tire mfr recommendation doesn't take into account the vehicle weight, handling, suspension, etc. But you know best, so carry on.

I believe Lifetime to Ford is 150K miles - that's their durability test target for cars and crossovers - regardless of any legal/warranty definitions. They're saying they expect the fluid to last 150K miles. I believe that is possible if the ptu doesn't overheat - problem is they seem to overheat a lot.

Just FYI Waze does not work with CarPlay - not sure about AA.

44 psi? Which tire size? The light only comes on when they are 25% low so even at a recommended 44 psi the light wouldn't come on until 33 psi. And if Ford is recommending 44 then 36 sounds really low. The big advantage of the tpms is when you have a tire going down it can alert you before you feel it and give you time to stop safely.
