  1. There's another thread on this site with more info on it. If I find it I will edit this post. with the link. In it, I posted a link to a "how to" for modding your original one and another site where the guy will do it for you. Ford won't allow anyone to manufacture and sell them anymore, so he can only sell you modded ones.
  2. Thanks for the review and pictures. This really helps in determining what I should do about the front mats. I have Weather Techs in the rear and cargo area and I love them since I have a kid. But the wife doesn't like how slippery they are compared to carpet. Does anyone know if there is a solution that has a rubber liner component with carpet on top? I want the comfort of carpet, but the protection of the rubber (insert bad joke here).
  3. That would be awesome. As always though... share pics!
  4. Cool! I'm subscribed to this thread, so I hope you come back in a week with pics.
  5. Given the same construction the 20" wheel will weight more, but I'm thinking there are plenty of 20" wheels that weigh less than the 18" wheels that Ford uses as stock. So he might come out ahead on a lighter rim since there will be less rubber on the 20" tire.
  6. For the speedometer, use this calculator (I've seen this on every car forum at one point or another): Tire size calculator Rule of thumb is to stay within 3% rolling difference. If stuck between sizes, I would go with a larger size, that way you get the mileage (odometer, not MPG) benefits. Just remember that your speedo will understate your speed slightly. You have plenty of room in the Edge wheel well, so do as you please. As for bolt pattern, if I'm not mistaken, Ford uses 5 X 114.3. The stock rim has a FWD offset of +38mm (from memory). So any Ford wheel for FWD (offset) vehicles will most likely work. You must also consider hub size though. If the rims you buy have the same or smaller hub size, you can have a machine shop bore them out to fit. If it is larger than your car's hub, you will need to get a hubcentric spacer (adapter) for them to fit. And lastly, if you find a rim that you really want that has a different bolt pattern, you could get hub adapters that would take care of the hubcentric aspect as well as bolt pattern. And if the bolt pattern is very close, like 5 X 108 (volvo for example) , you might be able to get away with wobble bolts. Good luck in your search, and share results please. EDIT: just looked up my stock 18" chrome clad on eBay and the wheel is 18" by 8" wide with an Offset of +40
  7. That's another reason I love my Volvo 850. 8 metal clips and the glass lens comes right off. Fit projectors and shrouds, replace glass with a plastic lens that has been defluted... done.
  8. Was thinking about removing the license plate bracket on my car. I'm glad that I found this out before planning my grille completely. Looks like I'm DEFINITELY going with the black vinyl wrap idea. I'm liking it more and more everyday and this thread is just the icing on this cake.
  9. You're welcome! and if you are going that route, I would try to go local. There has to be someone around your area that will do it. (I'm assuming)
  10. Wait, the Apple guys are hacking the MS Sync? I can't find anything about it... go a linky? I'm interested.
  11. And if it were never reported, Carfax will never know. Seems like dried bird droppings to me. I'm planning to wax the hell out of my Edge this weekend
  12. Never tried a carpod with the Edge, but my Edge came with a Class II hitch with a 2" opening. Is that not what you have? EDIT: If you only have 1.25", you could get an adapter, but that might add to the wobble.
  13. But where from do you 'remember' this? Dealer or service manager or some other inside person? It really doesn't make sense to me. The factory rails are all the way to the edge (no pun intended) of the roof. The aftermarket solutions that have touted the highest load capacities were installed with "tracks" that lie 2-3 inches inboard (closer to the Vista roof) of the factory location. The aftermarket "clip" solutions that move the mounts to the far edges only offer 100lbs of load capacity. IMO, the real reason they didn't offer rails with Vista roof is the risk of damage to the tempered (not safety) glass. Included with this was the risk of people overloading or improperly loading the roof and possibly messing up the roof mechanism. This would require a large enough load to warp the aluminum frame (something on the order of at least 200 pounds + force). Of course, if you hit something with tall items on the roof, the Vista could/would be damaged and that's not cheap ($5,000 just for the part). Definitely risks involved. I just feel that the risks are not due to simply weight but what that weight will do if an accident occurs. Having said all this, I plan on installing the factory rails with the Vista roof. (flame away) I will also keep in mind the risks as I load anything. I'll limit my cargo to bikes, snowboards and skis, surfboards, and maybe the occasional kayak at most. Definitely not putting anything up there for "moving" purposes. I will rent a trailer on the occasion I want to lug anything really heavy around. Thanks for confirming I was afraid that the headliner removal was required after looking around at the flex forums.
  14. So it looks like we ended up at the same place. None available. But all is not lost! ... if you really want a set, order the blanks from Ford (get a reseller discount if you can) and have some company like R1Concepts cut them for you. The blanks on Fordparts.com for the AWD rears are about $65 each. (~$50 if you can get reseller status). * I'm waiting on a quote for slotting. * UPDATE: Pricing on BYOB (Bring Your Own Blanks) = $20 a rotor for cutting and $5 each for zinc plating, you cover shipping.
  15. Old reliable. I've seen this on so many sites now I think it should be a 'Google Sticky' if you search "tire size calculator"
  16. Mp3 is the best way to go. For those that have premium sound, you will want to make sure to encode in a high bit rate or you will hear the difference. Not sure about the standard system's frequency response, so I can't comment there. I encode all of my mp3s (since 2003 or so?) in 192KHz (or lossless for some archives) Stereo 24-bit... can get a bit large, but nothing my 16GB flash won't handle.
  17. If you got the plastic thing off and the screwdriver in there, did you also put a foot on the brake?
  18. That looks awesome. For the front, I've seen some just run a loop under one of the fender bolts under the hood. Whatever you do, more pics please.
  19. damn... that is scary. Hopefully they get that fixed up right for ya. Until then, make extra sure not to get into any airbag accidents.
  20. I have a Realook (www.realook.us - currently down, best to goto Amazon) screen protector for my MyTouch 4G and it is the best thing I've found. Great adhesive and amazing clarity. I think it even improved some of my clarity in sunlight. I messed up on the installation due to instructions that weren't the clearest. But, the cool thing was, I just washed it with water (crazy huh?) and applied it to the phone while a bit wet. Then, I squeegeed the water and bubbles out (kind of like how a clear bra is put on). It's been perfect since. It has one giant scratch in it, but I'm sure that would be on my actual digitizer/screen if not for the protector. I can't find one for the Edge yet, but they might have one for another vehicle that fits the Edge. Just another option and my 2 cents.
