Car wash and the IA key
cal3thousand replied to LALarry's topic in Appearance - Detailing, Wash & Wax
It does have to be within 3 feet (supposedly). But imagine locking the door, then walking within 3 feet and have it unlock in the rain without your knowledge. Will just have to keep an eye out for this and/or manually tap the fob after gaining more than 3 feet distance. -
I damaged my 2011 edge 20" chrome clad wheel need help
cal3thousand replied to kenjan1970's topic in Wheels & Tires
The 18" Chrome Clads are available on eBay for $250.00 ... I've seen a take off set of 20s with tires for $1,500 as well. Be patient and watch eBay, it will definitely pay off versus the stealership route. -
2011 MKX Front Door Not Flush / Hard to Close
cal3thousand replied to ARR's topic in Exterior & Body
That's weird, but I just noticed this on my 2011 Limited as well. Kind of disappointed since I can see it from a decent distance. I'm on a lease and was planning on keeping the vehicle, but if they cannot address this as well as some other issues, I will be swapping it out it 23 months. I noticed the issue with the hood not being flush a couple weeks ago, and was going to post something and find out if it was common. Even where the front lower fascia meets with the front fender, the panels are not even. -
Pete, Those don't seem like the usual run of the mill errors that others are reporting. I don't have BLIS so I can't tell you anything about it. For the SYNC volume thing, that is truly weird. What version MFT do you have? Lastly, for the driver's seat, I've seen mention of a TSB to address that. But IIRC it was for the seatbelt being noisy. I'd have a dealer take a look at all those things.

"Connection error - See Dealer"
cal3thousand replied to seabiscuit's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Not sure about 2009s,but 2011s you pull fuse 29. The only Master Reset that I know is in the menus of Sync, which would require it to be non-dead. Looks like a trip to the dealer might be necessary. -
Honestly, I have yet to pop my CD player's cherry I'm still trying to figure out the best way to organize all of my music on flash

Black Screen of death....:(
cal3thousand replied to Skimco's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
That doesn't sound too fun at all. I had issues this weekend but nothing to that level. Fuse pull fixed my issue though. What version are you on? Maybe it's time to get v2.8? -
I guess retarded is normal to that guy. This needs to be addressed by Ford.

Is there an audio "priority"?
cal3thousand replied to flightplannerjim's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I'm not sure if there is a priority, but one thing you should check is whether autoplay is set to "ON". I've noticed that the USB will start to play randomly if not set to "OFF". On a weird but related note, whenever I turn on BT Stereo, it starts playing files off of my phone's uSD card. To play Grooveshark or Pandora, I have to turn on BT Stereo, then hit pause and then turn on the app on my phone. Yesterday, it acted all funky and would disconnect from the phone whenever I turned BT Stereo on. It also wouldn't play USB (it looked like it was playing, but there was no output). Just now at lunch, I went out an pulled fuse #29 for the first time ever. It fixed the issue with USB sound and BT Media Player disconnecting. Perhaps your system is wanting a fuse pull to behave. Good luck in your search for a solution. Let us know if you find anything of use. EDIT: looks like I got beat to the punch. -
You could make some mp3 CDs and fit 10 albums or more on one disc.

Nice looking phone mount
cal3thousand replied to Richardya's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
I used a flexible gooseneck mount in my last car and am contemplating moving it over. It's one of those metal arms that you can bend any way you like and mounted to one of the seat mounting bolts. If you get one (any mount) make sure that you can still plug in your phone while mounted. My particular mount grabs the phone in a way that blocks the charging port. My workaround was to put the phone in the mount upside down (Android running CM7 allows for this rotation). It's a little strange to have the buttons along the top row of the phone but it works. -
Sounds awesome to me. Makes me want to get another Ford.

Car wash and the IA key
cal3thousand replied to LALarry's topic in Appearance - Detailing, Wash & Wax
That doesn't bother me, but the potential for the car to unlock itself when raining is not cool. I will have to make sure to walk far enough away for the IA to not be detected by the door and then use the fob to lock it remotely on rainy days. -
2011 Edge Brake Performance Tests
cal3thousand replied to cal3thousand's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
I'm betting that a full on ABS stop on dry pavement will send the contents of my back seat into the front seat. Maybe I'll get crazy and post a video (next month after my oil change) -
2011 Edge Brake Performance Tests
cal3thousand replied to cal3thousand's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Thanks for the feedback. It's good to hear that you don't remember hearing it. My Volvo 850 brakes hard, but the ABS was loud and almost bone jarring. It hasn't worked in a about a year, so I'm pretty good with pedal modulation now . I need to get used to laying on the brakes when needed and letting ABS sort it out in the Edge. I'll go out have some fun with the brakes after the first oil change. -
2011 Edge Brake Performance Tests
cal3thousand replied to cal3thousand's topic in Brakes, Chassis & Suspension
Is it audible or can you feel it through the pedal? ( I know I should just go out and test it out myself, but I'm only 1200 mi... kinda want to baby it a bit longer) -

Have any of you made an ABS stop in your Edge yet? -
BTW, that thread TOTALLY made my day!

I need to find a Service Manager like that!

I think that 350 to empty is the Edge using you previous avg MPG in the computer multiplied by how much is in the tank. EX: 19.4 MPG x 18 Gallons = 350mi ... but since your right foot only squeezed out 13MPG, you got 13MPG x 18 Gallons = 234 mi. 234 mi - 173 mi = 61 mi. (at 19.4MPG)... at 13MPG you only have 40.87 mi to empty. (pretty close to 32 mi and remember, I'm guesstimating the hell out of your computer's MPG and your tank fill) MPG is not ONLY about how heavy of a foot you have. You need to look at driving habits. I get on the gas on acceleration, but I'm scanning lights and traffic way ahead of my car and coast to a light when I can (it takes all the patience I have, but that little MPG indicator helps; install a vacuum gauge if you don't have this feature). That small amount of rolling momentum as you reach a newly greened light can save a ton of gas. (BTW, I'm getting 18.5 MPG in my first 1100miles in Los Angeles rush hour traffic on the 10 freeway.)

Double Edge & Double Focus... gotta be a cool pun in there somewhere. You have the first Droid or an X? X is the only phone I know of that does the SYNC texting right now. 1-4) agreed 5) I asked myself that too. I guess the old tennis ball on a string will have to do for now. Until I hack some front sensors in from a JY car's rear sensors. 6) +1000 on this, I hit it everytime I try to mess with Navigation. I'm going to fashion some type of cool looking (hopefully) cover for it. 7) Guy at the car wash could not find it for the life of him, so he manually closed mine. He must have wanted the button on the hatch too 8) agree mostly in my case 9) agreed. Just learned that the IIHS is giving Edges built Feb 2011 and after a Top Safety Pick after they revised the roof structure for more strength. Love this thing more everyday.

Cool info! Where did you happen upon this? (EDIT: apparently, I was too excited to read it says from "Autoblog") ( I think mine was built on 3/1/2011 based on sticker, going to order roof rails for my Job 2 Edge with Vista now... )

2011 Edge Sport rust spots on front doors
cal3thousand replied to daconfusion's topic in Recalls, TSBs & Warranty
If he takes the car to the dealer for door issues, I would hope he removes them first. -
I used to ALWAYS use my parking brake with my Volvo since it was just right hand pull handle. It was just a good habit and became part of my parking motion. With the Edge's pedal parking brake, I forget / get lazy / am not used to it / etc. I'm going to remember make it more of a point to use it and get into the habit with my left foot. EDIT: to the OP... all cars roll, Edge has bigger wheels than many cars, so the travel distance is larger for the same angle of rotation.
