Hope this isn't old news. So I got an e-mail from Ford (maybe everyone will get it, I dunno) detailing what I assume has been the rumored "rewrite." It implies that we (2011-2012) owners will get a USB drive in the mail with the update in the spring. Along with the speed and ease-of-use improvements, it looks like the much requested map update will occur as well! Details are attached MyFord_Touch_Performance_Upgrade_2011-11-071.pdf

Just got a marketing e-mail from Ford. Check out this quote:

I just got an e-mail from Ford that says I should update my Sync software to the latest available. The link they gave took me to Sync my Ride, which shows that I have 2.11 (had the dealer do it awhile back).... and the only thing I can download is the status checker. So I would conclude that it is still 2.11. The exciting thing about the e-mail is that it confirms the rumors about the re-write! Pasted below....

I just renewed ours in the 11 Edge and 08 Focus. It is too much work for me to remember what music is on the USB stick, decide what I want to hear and ask for it.... on the flip side, I'm getting tired of hearing all the same songs on Sirius. I think Pandora is probably the way I would go if I had the setup. Hm, maybe my argument could be to save the $/mo on Sirius and apply that to my Verizon bill so I can get a smartphone for pandora! Don't listen to the majority of Sirius channels, though, because the trashy compression makes the talk stations hard to understand (at least with the road noise in my 08 focus). Had kind of gotten used to the compressed music stream over time, then when I played an MP3 it blew me away. Like night and day. It is frustrating that they accept such poor quality. Someone mentioned that maybe there would be more choice in the future, but I don't expect to see others enter the marketplace. There used to be two sat radio choices, but they couldn't even make it work separately. Maybe the Pandora-type services will be the competition they need to clean up their act. By the way, anyone use Verizon and stream Pandora much? Does that rack up your bill now that there is no unlimited data plan?

Nice, it was the chat guy who told me to try it awhile back. :wacko: In any case, does your system get laggy and glitchy when playing USB? My other fave is when you try "what's playing" and she tells you that command is only available when playing from a USB... uh, yeah, I know... and I am!

The only real problem I've noted with my ver 2.4 is that it can get all confused when I'm trying to play music from the USB. There are other bugs that we deal with, but are pretty minor compared to what I've read from othrs. On other rare occasions it won't listen to me or will turn the radio on full blast, etc. I haven't heard anyone mention the USB music issues or if 2.11 addresses them, so I just wondered what others had experienced with that. I have tried "sync my iTunes" to make sure my file formats are all good. Also, I have read about there being a several minute "boot up" time with 2.8, so I never had that update done. The above post would seem as if that is no longer the case in 2.11. Am I making the right assumption there? Thanks.

So I've searched the forums and found posts on the PTU issue, which seem to describe my issue pretty well. The problem is that my 2011 Limited is not AWD, and so I assume it has no PTU. After warming it up, or driving up a hill or something, it smells like hot or burning rubber. Sometimes it is more putrid. One time my uncle thought his neighbors were burning garbage again, but it was just my car. Will be taking it into the dealership in a month or so for its first maintenance and probably the SYNC update (on 2.4 currently). Just thought it would be nice to be prepared with some info when I go in. Thanks!

What I thought this thread would be about is what I noticed the first time I washed mine... The doors lock and unlock when you turn the hose on them

I've never used a tire dressing, but obviously our dealer did when the prepped our 2011 Edge Ltd for delivery. There is some sort of stuff, which I have now dubbed "black $%*#" on the tires that has gotten on the clothing of just about everyone in my family. It's not like we hang out around the tires or anything, somehow it just happens in the course of life. Anyway, I've washed the car once now (didn't focus on the tires, as I didn't want black $%*# on anything) and still somehow just got it on my cargo shorts walking by the car in the garage today. How do I take that crap off, and any great suggestions on how to get it out of clothes, because we've now ruined a couple pair of pants, a pair of shorts and my 4yo daughter's shirt. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks so much for figuring this out. I read the manual (like an idiot) and was trying to push that non-button. When I noticed that the front seats had actual buttons on both posts, I quit. My next step was going to be trying to pop out the little non-button with something like an allen key in that hole. Maybe I would have figured it out, but more likely, I would have messed up the plastic and been cussing. Why couldn't they make them the same as the fronts??? Especially when that is what the manual states.

Well, due to the expiring $500 (presidents day) and $750 coupon, we decided to pull the trigger. After negotiating via e-mail on a black limited (with some extra options over what we really wanted, $39,390 MSRP), we went to the dealership at 10:00 today. Short story is that SEVEN hours later, we emerged with a beautiful bordeaux red one with the exact same option set, but pretty darn happy with the deal. Turns out a now former employee of the dealership took our new car-to-be for a 3200 mile joyride this weekend. That's ok, I think I actually prefer the bordeaux red now after seeing it in person. $1500 cash $500 Presidents day $1000 Ford Credit (it worked out better than taking the promotional credit rates or even our bank rate without the $1000) $750 coupon We're happy with it... .but now we just have to figure out the nutty amount of technology in this thing, between the nav and the sync and the unusual door locks and start button and everything.

Anybody notice the new $500 cash? It expires on Presidents Day. I think this seals the deal for me. I am going to get one off the lot with the extra options, making use of my $750 and all the other incentives. Gotta get my act together now and get er done by Monday! Oh yeah, I'll probably try to get them to trade me down to the 18" wheels for a price deduction too. Although I just checked online and the OEM tires are about the same price as the 20"s for replacement. Interesting.

Yeah, I was gonna say that'd be awesome, but my dealer told me they are required by Ford to only give the incentives at the time of delivery Even though there is a couple thousand dollar difference from my idea to where the stocked vehicles are, I am leaning toward that $750 coupon. If I convince them to trade the wheels down to 18"ers and take the $895 off for it, then I also get to use my $750 instead of letting it expire while my order builds. That puts me not too much more than I would have been, and I get stuff like a BAMR, which is ok by me. Now I just gotta figure out the best way to negotiate this with the price. I want to be at least at X-plan level, then deduct the wheels. Again, thanks for letting me talk this out. It is helping me with the stress! The other thing that helps with stress is doing this dance. :happy feet:

I also felt that tow package was a great deal, what with the upgraded coolers, etc. Thanks for the tip on cars.com. I haven't tried that one.

Yeah, you are probably right about the $750, since it does play well with X plan. I actually have been looking at the inventories... it is an embarrassing engineer behavior, but I even have a spreadsheet! There is one vehicle in the area I could live with and put an aftermarket hitch on, but it shows as "dealer ordered" on one inventory source, and is does not show up on another inventory list. I think my biggest beef is the 20" rims that they have added to all of them. Not too good for dirt roads, and holy smokes are the tires expensive. Still have some noodling to do

Hi. First time poster (ok, second post 'cause I did the welcome first ) I'm totally stressed out by this car purchase and my wife wants me to stop it, so I guess I need help! Sorry that this turned out to be a novel. So here's the sitch. All I want is a Limited with Driver Entry Package and Tow Package. Unfortunately, everything that exists with that combo also includes several $thou of extras and such. I've asked a few dealers to check inventory and they surprisingly all suggested that I order one instead of selling me up. The dilemma: You get the incentives available at the time of delivery. Current incentives expire in about six weeks. The dealer insists that in his 30 some odd years of selling Fords he has never seen the incentives go down. This is just a salesman talking, and I can't find any sort of historical data on this. The dealer says that the "Cover Your " estimate is 6 to 8 weeks, but "we've been getting them in 4 to 5 weeks". Again, salesman speak, but they are a leading volume dealer in the area and he says allocation is no problemo. At the moment, I can't make myself take the gamble on there being equivalent incentives after 4/4/11, but on the other hand, I'm frustrated about all the bling'd out inventory that doesn't meet my needs. Other crud that circulates through my brain daily: 1) I can do X-plan, Costco, whatever, and just want to get the best deal. 2) I got the $750 brochure coupon, but it expires in the first week of March. Please help before this starts to affect my marriage! Thanks!
