  1. When I was looking for a place to install my wheels and tires no one in my area I spoke to had the tool for this newer model vehicle yet. They all said they'd be getting them soon though. Either way he would still need to make twice-yearly appointments to have the sensors calibrated or watch the warning light half the year. Getting someone with the tool to do it while you're there for an oil change or something sounds doable. Given the options between swapping tires and calibrating sensors it would be cheaper and there would be no risk of damaging the rims with twice-yearly calibration. The sensors aren't cheap but would only need to be purchased and installed once. -assuming one doesn't go bad or some such
  2. You won't have any rubbing issues (unless you try to mount some really, really wide tires) As Good_Hands says, we have members running tires up to 305 tread width with no mention of rubbing. I'm running a set of 275/45R20s. As far as the "gap" between the tire and the fenders... imo there is definitely more than necessary and it will stay the same if you keep the factory overall diameter the same. Some of us, myself included, have had the H&R Sport springs installed. They effectively lower the vehicle nearly (to right at) 2". With these springs however the lowering is secondary to the stiffer ride. The handling and cornering are MUCH better than stock - less body roll of course but also lower center of gravity. I haven't searched for a lowering kit which does not increase stiffness. Possibly a company such as H&R offers or will offer springs which are softer than the Sport set many of us have. A custom suspension shop could feasibly cut the factory springs which would effectively reduce the ride height without "adversely" affecting the ride stiffness. At least one member here says he didn't notice a difference in stiffness. He qualified that statement with "maybe because I didn't want to notice". I can tell you for a fact the H&R set definitely stiffens the ride quite a bit. The springs have apparently broken in some... and of course I have adjusted... but they are still much stiffer than stock. That stiffness isn't a bad thing imho but does have me avoiding speed bumps if at all possible and weaving around really bad spots on bad roads (of which there are plenty in my area) Another option concerning the gap between the tire and the fender would be to install a larger diameter wheel/tire combination. In that case your speedometer and odometer would be off but could be recalibrated (from what I read) by a company such as Evolution Performance, Inc. from THIS thread. Also a larger overall diameter wheel/tire combo would effectively raise the vehicle's ride height 1/2 the amount of the additional diameter, or the same amount you would lessen the gap between tread and fender. Keep in mind too that braking efficiency would be affected with an overall taller wheel/tire combination. A larger diameter rotor and better after market calipers would be a consideration in this case. I'm planning to get better braking hardware at some point but as of yet have no links for you there. Hope that helped
  3. Hi GT475 You don't necessarily have to have TPMS sensors for your winter wheels. If you don't have them you will be looking at an idiot light the whole time. Also the LED screen will display a fault with the system, requiring you to clear the error after each start. If you leave your original wheel in your garage they will likely reset the computer whenever your parked next to them. That will stop the errors etc for (I believe) about 25 miles. If you do go with sensors you will need the sensors and bands installed on the wheels prior to having tires mounted. Additionally you will have to have the sensors calibrated. It doesn't take long but until the major tire places start to use the devices necessary will have to be done at the dealership. If they try to charge you more than 30 minutes they are gouging. It cost me $37.50 Keep in mind as well that you will have to have the original sensors recalibrated when you reinstall the original wheels. Calibration, as I understand it, is simply telling the vehicle's computer to talk to the particular sensors in the wheels on the car.
  4. Yeah it would. I expect one or both of the people I've been in contact with will soon enough stock the assemblies. When they do that it'd be a simple core swap & pay for the tinting situation. In the meantime, as it is with most after market stuff for our Edges, it's so new the parts just aren't yet available. With the popularity of the Edge it won't be long. We're seeing things come available little by little.
  5. I just got a PM from Chad: Scoopo - the easiest way to get a set, would probably be to have me order the lenses and pick them up at my ford dealer, that way it will save you on shipping. Also, there will be no down time with your vehicle, and i will be able to do them at my pace, rather than ship a set out before allowing for full cure time. I will still need to look at a set. All i need to see is the dimensions and how the lens is built in order to get you an exact quote. You would probably be looking at around 85-100 dollars for the tails and probably about 25-40 dollars for the third. Sorry that is such a large range, but i just want to give you a relative cost. The most expensive lights i have ever done were 175 for the tails of a local lambo gallardo, so i am relatively reasonable, despite the car they go on. I know the local dealer is a large supplier of Edge's, so i'll take a peak over there in the next day or so. Chad. Dude's done a Lamborghini! Wow, if I do say so myself :shades: The pricing is right in line with the other place so that's great! A few of us getting together sounds like a great idea, however we'd need to explore that further and get some other folks on board before it would be doable. I like the idea of less cash outlay but I also like the idea of having an untinted set boxed up in case of any trouble with the police. There are a lot of customized rides in my area so I really don't see where I would have a problem. I'm not a street racer and am too old to cruise the Boulevard any more... so it's unlikely I'll attract too much unwanted attention. Also I've located a forum where a member posted up a ton of info on all sorts of laws (here in Georgia). The actual post is a couple years old but at least good for informational purposes He included the following: 40-8-26. (Concerning Brake Lights/Turn Signals) (a) Any motor vehicle may be equipped and when required under this article shall be equipped with the following signal lights or devices: (1) A brake light on the rear which shall emit a red light and which shall be actuated upon application of the service (foot) brake and which may but need not be incorporated with a taillight; and (2) A light or lights or mechanical signal device capable of clearly indicating any intention to turn either to the right or to the left and which shall be visible from both the front and the rear. (b ) Every brake light shall be plainly visible and understandable from a distance of 300 feet to the rear both during normal sunlight and at nighttime, and every signal light or lights indicating intention to turn shall be visible and understandable during daytime and nighttime from a distance of 300 feet from both the front and the rear. When a vehicle is equipped with a brake light or other signal lights, such light or lights shall at all times be maintained in good working condition. No brake light or signal light shall project a glaring or dazzling light.
  6. Yeah, he asked what level I was looking for. The do-it-yourself methods I've seen involve sanding and spraying from a can, or applying film-like window tinting (which is what you've done and show in the original post, right?) Chad hasn't yet gotten back to me with a price for the tinting on Edge tails but another place replied this morning. Their quote is $90 plus $20 for shipping. They also don't have Edge assemblies in stock so they too would require the lights to be sent (either off the Edge or purchased separately. At $300+ an entirely new set would be kind of pricey but would allow an owner to have the original untinted set on hand in case he or she needed to reinstall them. Also a new/second set would allow an owner to continue to drive their Edge while waiting the tinted set to arrive) In their email reply this place stated a 2 day turnaround time not counting shipping. Their site says 3 days, possibly 4 if they're very busy. Also, I see on this other site levels from light to medium to dark and includes options for light/medium and medium/dark... so there are obviously all sorts of levels available for all desired and to "match" all sorts of car colors. Both Chad and this other place do very nice, professional work.
  7. I'm not usually one to post multiple times in a row but I got a reply from the gent who does the beautiful work above I linked this forum and this thread and invited him to come on over. Here's my PM and his reply from the Focus forum: As he doesn't stock (as of yet?) the Edge tail light assemblies, below are some links to said OEM assemblies: Left and Right 3rd, or "High mount lamp" A full set of left, right, and "upper", before shipping and of course not counting Chad's tint work, come in at $303.33 Links to a better price will be very much appreciated by myself and probably others. I am awaiting a quote on his work before I sign on and purchase new assemblies to send him... but believe me I will be scoring myself a set of these bad boys very soon :D
  8. Yeah, it's a computer, therefore it can and will be hacked. However it's also M$ so I have no doubt they will make it the biggest pain in the butt to mod. I dunno details but from what I understand they are working on updating the functionality. Is it Unix/Linux or an M$ proprietary operating system? I expect it's fully proprietary. We shall see (not if but how easily) it can be user-modified in short order I'm sure. Pretty interesting stuff, to say the least. :shades:
  9. Nice. I've emailed them and sent links for OEM replacement emblems for both the front and rear (that front one is friggin 10" wide O_O) for the Edge. I've asked for pricing, availability, wait time, etc. I of course have asked for black. I will post again after I receive a reply.
  10. Finally found it again (yeah, I bookmarked the page but was looking for Fusion when it was actually a Focus forum  ) Check out this work: I LOVE the way the reverse light section isn't tinted! I registered on the site and PMd the guy who does the work, asking if he could or would do the same to a set of Edge tail lights and if so how much... or if not could he possibly direct me to someone who could. I expect it wouldn't be the least expensive option but it sure is beautiful work! :shades: I'll post again if/when I get a reply.
  11. After doing a little searching for a better price I am reminded of my efforts. I was initially looking for 22" wheels but quickly found that my financial situation dictated I go with a 20" model. I actually came out very happy indeed with my choice and with the look of my Edge with the Zinik 20" set I chose. With 275/45R20 the difference is 0.58% (from my stock 245/60R18s) Speedo difference is 0.586% too slow. Meaning My speedometer reads 59.6 MPH when I'm traveling 60MPH. That was very close and the minor difference to the good side for me odometer-wise. Looking at this particular site with the TSW wheels at exactly $400 each (what you said in your original post), the 20" version of the same TSW wheels are $280 each. That's a pretty big difference in $, times 4... not to mention the $ difference in tires. Just a thought I really like the look of that TSW Montage!
  12. Yeeech! Even worse than what I was picturing! That would be a front wheels only lockup in the case of us FWD owners! I was imagining an ABS issue locking down all four corners. Either way a full-on lockup at highway speeds would result in an uncontrollable situation... and the way people drive around here would probably also mean a major real-world test of the safety features I'm so proud of. I'd much rather see such a test on TV than in person. I think it's safe to say we all want to know what caused this. asap.
  13. Wow! O_O That's scary dude! I'm an Interstate guy. A sudden lockup in 65+ MPH traffic could have extremely severe repercussions. Please let us know what the verdict on the problem turns out to be.
  14. I just absolutely love when the wheels match the paint. Example, mine. 20": (Not really that great a picture. Super sun-shiny that day) I wouldn't begin to tell you what to do with your money, but as for my opinion on the choice between the two sets you're showing... Those TSW wheels look like they'd look very, VERY nice on your Edge Personally, I'd save a while if necessary and get them for sure. I don't like the Fusion set. My opinion of course. Whatever you go with, please post up the results for us.
  15. I too drive very carefully. Something I learned I suppose from having a big motorcycle as a teenager in Florida (where there was always a blue-hair trying to kill me). I have never yet had occasion to need the ABS and therefore have yet to hear it. Kinda makes me wonder what it sounds like. Maybe I'll go test out a hard braking situation on a nice safe back road. All in all I think my Edge stops just fine. Can't forget the car weighs in much heavier than one might think by looking at it. I suppose too the bigger, better tires and stiffer springs on my Edge contribute as well to mine seeming to brake very well indeed.
  16. The chrome trim on the center vents are part of the center console "package" on the Edge. I'm sure there will eventually be some chrome trim pieces available after market (if they aren't already) It's still tough to find much after market stuff for the Edge. I keep looking though
  17. Pics aren't great but we get the idea. Doesn't look bad, actually I've been looking for nice tinted taillights since I got my black Edge but have passed on the films. I did find a dude on line who custom tints tails, but not for the Edge (yet?). Beautiful work! I'll dig up a link and post it. Maybe we can get some really nice professional stuff going...

    Color Change

I'm not all that fond of it either. Sorry.
  19. I'm not seeing anything either. No red X, no nothing. The thumbnails are good though. Love that hood with the "scoop"!
  20. Damn! :o I knew my Edge was quick and has a nice tall OD but that's some serious speed! Dontcha love it when someone getting paid way bigger than you lets something like this get by? LOL I can't help but wonder if that's actual speed or what the speedo registers - per THIS thread. (jk, obviously )
  21. I'm pretty sure the chromed plastic isn't easily removed.
  22. Those are sweet! I live right on the TN/GA line. I hear ya about an orange/copper car. I like orange but can't even wear my favorite orange shirt without some college football fanatic commenting on the Vols, good or bad. It's not about a school game people! It's a color! Grow up, read a book! Ugh.
  23. LOL! That's good stuff, guys! Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode with the hot girlfriend who could get out of anything. I don't remember the quotes off-hand but they got pulled over and jerry was like "I was going waaay faster than that!" hehe
  24. They're clearly flares, not paint. Sick exhaust! ...must... have... I don't care for the flares myself. At least not as shown. I suppose, if done right as usual, they could look really good with the right accouterments. I could see it with nice oversize (not too big of course) wheels and tires - more like an off-road setup - and the killer uber brush guard, all done with a paint choice in the dark blue/black range. Urban Assault once again comes to mind. Although the Edge isn't an off-road machine it has lines and an attitude with which one could do all sorts of great things. :shades: LOL, Good_Hands. Looks?! OMG! Who would dare to change a car for looks?! ... oh, that's right... me, you, anyone who ain't renting
