Tinted Tails - Unique Coatings
scoopo replied to scoopo's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Great! So we have our 6 1. Scoopo 2. Jillo79 3. gfhii 4. lee6379 5. NYEdge 6. Abrannan19 If there's any problem with the order of the list post it up. I'll go ahead and give a yell to Chad and get the info on where to send the money. I propose once we get the address and send the money we post here saying we've done so. That way there's no question if one of us fails to do so in an expeditious fashion. I'm excited! I stopped by a new car stereo store yesterday with a bunch of modded rides out front (including a truck with these HUGE 30" chrome wheels O_O) and all these guys were just swarming my Edge :D They wanted to know what it was, and one guy who knew and had seen several kept saying "I've seen lots of them but not one like this!" Made me feel good! I was telling them about the tint work Chad does. I believe he'll be hearing from some of these guys soon as well. -

Sweet! :D Ok, so we have Jillo79 and Abrannan19 on board for sure! From the order of the posts in this thread I would say we need to move 2&3 to 3&4 and slip Jillo into 2nd. If there's any problem with that it's of course fully up for discussion. I'll go ahead and adjust the list until I hear otherwise. And with Abrannan19 ok with 6th we're just looking for one more Edge owner for 5th place! NYEdge? We don't all have to get the same level of tint if you'd like light... At this point it would seem, assuming everyone on the list is ready to go now, that we either need that one more person... or we check with Chad and with each other and go $60 instead of $50 and get this thing going immediately! 1. Scoopo 2. Jillo79 3. gfhii 4. lee6379 5. 6. Abrannan19 ~ I'm obviously assuming 1st position - considering the time and whatnot I've spent communicating with Chad and trying to get all you together. I hope no one has a problem with that  ~ -

Ok, so far we have: 1. Scoopo 2. gfhii 3. lee6379 4. 5. 6. lee6379 - What is needed - We need six people to pitch the $50 each to start the core program for Edge tails. If/when we get enough interested Edge owners we'll send the money to Chad who will then purchase a new set of tails and tint them. Then he'll send them to us in order and we'll swap them and return our untinted set for tinting and delivery to the next person. Each of us in turn will get our $50 back from Chad and he'll end up with a core set, which is why he's willing to give us back the initial $50 charge. -
Tinted Tails - Unique Coatings

I haven't looked into the grills yet. I know powder-coating is done... just not who does it (just yet). Grats on the black interior. I bought mine off the lot and have Camel interior. Nice, but I'd rather have black. I managed to score a black rear emblem from Scott because I had been communicating with him prior to his shutting down. Paid today, hope to receive the emblem middle of next week. The 18" chromes look great, tbh. They're not black though. I became attached enough I had buyer's remorse after changing them out. But only for a few days. The black wheels are friggin sweeeeet on a black Edge! As for the Unique Coatings tails: If several of us are to go in on a core deal we need six people (although I bet we could do five at $60 each with little trouble) So a list... 1. Scoopo 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. If we can agree and sign up in a relatively quick manner we can get on with getting Chad to start the tinting. If not I will be removing my tail lights and sending them off. Which of course means I will not be participating in a core program, and therefore won't be pitching in. I think it's an inevitability that enough Edge owners, in the long run and assuming they can be made aware of Chad's awesome work, will be interested and he will end up with a core program. However I will be scoring myself a set of these bad ass tails much sooner than later. -
Check the pics in THIS thread. Niiiice!! Thanks KSN177

Wow! Thanks dude! I'm gonna link this thread in the Custom Edges thread :shades: I love that Gray pic, #2. Sick! Wheels very similar to mine. And those tail lights! Sooo nice! :D

Tinted Tails - Unique Coatings
scoopo replied to scoopo's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Hi Jillo79! The pricing, if I'm correct or course, depends on how one would go about it. If you (or me or whoever) were to remove the lights and send them off to be tinted the price would be $95 for the tails and $30 for the third = $125, plus shipping there and back. Chad says he'll cover the first $15 of shipping - I assume that's the return shipping. If someone wanted their tails tinted but didn't want to be without tail lights and therefore unable to drive their Edge for 5 or more days their only option atm would be to buy their own set of OEM replacement assemblies and ship them to him for tinting. This is a great option but will put one owner out the $300 for the OEM set(at the least expensive place I've found on line) plus the tinting fee from Chad... and they would end up with two sets - one tinted, the other factory. The $50 thing is if we can get 6 people willing to go in on a core set of lights. If Chad were to already have a core set, meaning he had a set in his possession before a customer wanted them, the price would be $150 + core charge. The core charge would be refunded after a customer received and installed the tinted tails then returned the originals to him. The core idea is the same difference as if one were to purchase a water pump from an auto parts store. The reason here is that he hasn't done an Edge yet and a new set of all three lights will cost around $300. As Chad couldn't justify buying $300 worth of Edge tails to tint them and sell them to me, or any single owner, for $150 he said if we could get 6 people to pitch $50 each he'd take that money, buy the new OEM tail light assemblies, and return our $50 each as a core refund. With 6 or more customers it would be feasible for him to invest his own money in the core set he would in the end retain and have to offer the next and future Edge owners. gfhii: Total dollars would = $150 plus *shipping (IF 6 of us were to go in on a core set). Take yours off and wait = $125 + *shipping. Buy your own and send those = $300(+) for OEM assemblies + $125 (right Chad?) for tinting + *shipping. *shipping = TO Chad + FROM Chad minus the $15 he offers to cover. (example. Shipping one way is $25. Total shipping $25+$25-$15 = $35) Advice on blacking out your Edge? ... Well, these here tail lights are a big, beautiful step. Also there's the guy who does the colored emblems, but it looks like they're no longer available till he's sure he's not stepping on Ford's toes. Decals/overlays for emblems fall next on that list (I like the Superman S in black). Black wheels is something I did. Others have too. 20% tint (illegal in some/most states, but matches the back) Also, tint-wise, it's legal to completely black out or even paint all the windows behind the driver and passenger sides. Powdercoat chrome. I'm looking into this for my grill like the green custom Edge in the Custom Edges thread. Lesse, emblems, wheels, chrome, windows, lights.... that pretty much covers it I think. OH! I will be painting my brake rotors black. Especially with the after market wheels through which they're so much more apparent. Don't forget the tire shine. Any car looks better with nice shiny black tires! -
Alteration of Ford Logo

At least not from Scott at fordemblems.com He said he can do the back one, as we see he's already done, however I now see the following message on his site: I will no longer be taking orders for Custom Ford Emblems until further notice. I am attempting to find out if anything I do here violates the rights of Ford Motor Company! -
They were working night before last. I didn't send one yesterday but tried to send a test PM today after seeing this. Yep, they're borked

ramhi4x: "...I've lowered it via an H&R spring kit, and put 22's & 285/35's" LINK to thread. Clickable thumbnails: So 285/35R22 tires on unknown width 22" wheels. I suspect about a 10" wheel width as they appear more than 10mm wider than the 275s I and a few others are running. It does look pretty sweet :shades:

LMAO You do have a way with words, my oh so eloquent friend I haven't had any trouble I'm aware of. I sent and received a couple PMs last night. Maybe I just got lucky with my timing because a Server Error is definitely not a problem with your PC.

There ya go Senior! I've realized the Scooperwoman personality for my Edge to go with my Scooperman personality! LOL! That doesn't help me with wanting to add a bra though O_O I kinda like her without...

Tinted Tails - Unique Coatings

Wow, I thought more people would jump on this immediately. Maybe I'm just all "Christmas Eve-y" about these. I reiterate: I will have a set of these with or without the "group buy" of the core set. I'll give it through the weekend, then I'm commencing with a plan to own a set asap. :shades: These will be just too sweet on my black Edge. Especially with the blackout/stealth effect I'm working on. :D -
Yeah, I'm up late tonight. East coast. 12:30AM atm. I've only felt a shifting clunkiness once - when creeping up to a long lined stop sign one day by a train crossing. Under 10mph stop and go. I mentioned it to the service manager but he hadn't heard. That situation is so unusual that I've not felt it since and am not too worried. Tire width for the factory 245/60R18 are, of course, 245mm. That comes out to 9.65" (roughly) I went with a 275/45R20 to go with my wheels. Factory 18" wheels are 7.5" wide. I bought a set at 20x8.5" As 1mm = 0.0393700787" (Google is my hero) the addition of 30mm roughly equals an additional 1.18" of tread width. (for a total tread width of approximately 10.85" [10.826...]) ... which came out about right. BTW, lotsa pics after the new wheels and tires HERE

No problem. There are several threads in which we discuss the springs in the 'Accessories and Modifications' section. The approximate lowering, from the H&R information, is 1.5" Rear and 1.75" Front. The change in look is, imho, perfect for the vehicle's style and HUGE in terms of handling. They start off a bit stiff but do break in. I'm absolutely 100% happy with the springs!!! :shades: I should really look at my own gallery. I've posted more pictures in threads as attachments than I've uploaded to the gallery. Maybe too many...? Nah! I LOVE my Edge!

Thanks for the update! I too hope it was a fluke and we hear of no more issues of this nature. Phew!

I popped in over there yesterday or the day before (for the first time in a while) They were up and it looked like the spam had been cleared out. ... never mind. It's the other other Edge site I revisited. Not much going on there. This is definitely the best Edge forum site! It has its requisite troll but the mods stay on top of it and delete the altercations pretty quickly. Overall there are nothing but great people here. Wish we could get more Edge owners involved though. Here's to THE Ford Edge Forum! :beerchug:

Alteration of Ford Logo
scoopo replied to jennypenny12's topic in Interior, A.C., Heat, Interior Trim
Scott from fordemblems.com replied and said he can't mod the front Edge emblem as it is the wrong type Oh well... I asked for a quote on a black one for the back, adding that a member here had one in red that looks great. -
Oh man! That picture sooo goes with your avatar, Senior! LMAO!

Sweet! I can't wait to see you excited posts and pictures when it arrives!

Started a new thread about Unique Coatings HERE Looking for five other interested people to pitch on a set of OEM replacements and start an Edge tails core program with Chad.
-
Starting a new thread from THIS one. So I Googled across this guy who does some absolutely amazingly beautiful tinted tail lights. A completely unique process he is calling Unique Coatings. I found him on the Ford Focus forum. After PMing back and forth a bit he directed me to the Dodge forum HERE, where he is a sponsor and has a section devoted entirely to this work. Toward the bottom of the Sponsors section, look for Unique Coatings. In speaking with him he can and will tint Edge tails. He went to Ford and looked at them then replied about how they are made, adding that due to the way they are constructed leaving the reverse light section untinted isn't an option for us. That's ok with me as plenty of light passes through the tinting. He offers a core program but as he's never done an Edge before does not have a set. For those models he does have core sets for he can ship an already tinted set out either immediately (and refund the core charge after receiving the customer's original set), or a customer can ship their tails and he will ship a tinted set the day after he receives them. Or, of course, a customer can ship their tails and wait while he does the work. Turnaround approximately 5-6 days or so, counting ship time to and from. The last option will of course mean a customer would have to do without their Edge for some days while awaiting delivery. His method, which I pasted from a PM in the top-most linked thread here, involves a unique dipping method followed by the application of an automotive clearcoat which he will then wet-sand and buff. According to his information in a 20+ page thread at the Dodge forum he lastly waxes the tails before shipping. Once installed, and after a short time to allow for proper curing, the tails can be treated as one would their paint as far as washing and waxing. I located some discount OEM tail lights for the Edge and sent him the links. Looking at about $300 or so, not counting shipping, to purchase OEM replacements. He has suggested that some of us can get together and pitch in on the initial cores. This is because he understandably can't take the loss on a single customer such as myself... and I would prefer not to spend $300 over and above the tinting cost then put the spares in a box. However if six of us would pitch $50 each he is willing to purchase OEM tails and commence with the tinting, refunding each of us in turn our $50 as he would a core. His price quote is $95 for the left and right tail light assemblies and $30 for the third light at the top. Plus shipping - and he covers the first $15 for shipping as well. This price would be to send in your assemblies and wait. The price for a core option is slightly higher than if one were to outright buy a set from him (when looking at the pricing he's laid out for all sorts of models at the Dodge forum too) - $150 for all three tails on an Edge. So, I started this new thread to see if there are five other interested parties here on this forum who would be interested in going in with me on this. I am not out to and will not make a dime on this man's time and beautiful work. I snagged several images from the other forums to give a clear image of how good these things look. They are of several different models and some include the untinted reverse light, which I remind is not an option for the Edge tails. Tons more images and a whole bunch of satisfied customers can be found at the Dodge forum linked above. Not one single customer has not been totally 100% satisfied with these. Focus with light to medium tint. "Before and after" in one pic With brakes on - different truck than above So nice! I scribbled out his tag. I don't mind people seeing mine but can't speak for others, ya know? For an 07 Focus sedan - prototypes requested by someone for a SEMA car Variety pack, with and without the untinted reverse light section. Notice how the flash shows how the reflector sections reflect just fine Another nice shot of a set fully tinted Great reflection shot. With a baby thrown in for effect Look at that reflection! Wow! A couple views of a third brake light Another nice truck. Scribbled tag again on this one. Had to put a line on the reflection too. lol I should also add that I will be having my tail lights done by this gentleman regardless of whether or not we can come up with the six people necessary to start an Edge core program.

Chad got back to me with some info: Scoopo - I wanted to get back in touch and give you an update. I was out tonight and stopped in to look at the edges. As I had suspected, the outter lens is one piece, because of this, there is no way to leave any sections untinted, due to not having a "break" line. Basically, in most cars, the red outter lens has a clear reverse lens pressed into the red portion. This leaves a break, and makes for a clean line. So, basically, what i'm saying is, with the lens design of the edge, there is only one option, and that is to do a full lens tint. I offer light, medium, and dark. Dark is show use only, as it is not suitable for road driving. Light is a very very light tint, and medium gets you fairly dark, but still good light transmission. With any form of tinting, you will have light transmission loss the darker you go, but with medium you should still be very visible, both at night and more importantly during the day. Back to the problem with being able to not leave a reverse section clear: without knowing my process you might not think this is a big deal, however, unlike many people (including those others online who sell tinted tail lights) all they do is take a little black paint, and thin it with clear coat. They then just run it through a gun, and call it a custom lens. However, my process is much more involved, and much more time consuming. I actually dip the lenses in a liquid bath to apply the tint, much in the same way as hydro-graphics are done. The tint binds to the outside of the lens, and then hardens in a relatively quick amount of time. Once the tint is cured, i then use a high quality clear to protect the very thin amount of tint that is bound to the lens. The lenes are then wetsanded out and then buffed out. This isn't my main business, just a hobby, but i have a process no one else has, and i enjoy doing it. So, basically, unlike some of the other Dot.com tinted tail places, you're not just another customer, i'm more personal and easy to get ahold of. I've been doing this for about 2 years now. I got started on dodgetalk.com, but have expanded to a few other sites. If you go on dodgetalk.com, you will find my forum there with quite a few members pictures on there. Perhaps an idea you may be interested in, if you have other members who are interested in, is i will start a core program, and once you purchase the core set, send me yours, and i'll refund the core amount (which would be the replacement cost for a new set of lenses - unfortunately they are expensive through ford, so i would probably try to find "new takes-offs" or those from a newer wrecked vehicle, so that they would be immaculate lenses. i dont deal in junk. If you have any questions let me know. Chad. He also replied later with a price quote of $95 for the tails and $30 for the third brake light. Plus shipping. I need to reply to him about whether he would do the searching for the core lenses or if I/we would need to locate them. The MSRP is pretty high. The discounted OEM pieces I found, as I said, are much cheaper but still come in at around $300 for all three. I'd jump on this right now if not for the thought of the additional $300+ ... so this core program is something I'm very interested in. EDIT: Chad is a sponsor at, and has tons of pics and info, at dodgetalk.com. Check THIS section. His process produces absolutely AMAZING results! UNIQUE COATINGS

The factory 18" wheels are 7.5" wide. I got 20x8.5 and they look perfect (to me) width-wise. And with the additional 30mm tread width from 245 to 275 I think the sizing came out just right.

Me too! Meetcha halfway? hehe Looks like a nice trip, Sr. I assume by Scotland you're referring to the Loch Ness rock in the picture. lol
