It only has about 100 miles on it currently so it's not even broke in. We are driving straight across from PA to CA and then up the coast stopping to visit family, and then up the Al-can. Google Map shows the trip at right around 7500 miles. I am picking up an empty 5X8 enclosed trailer in Oregon and pulling it back up to AK. It only weighs 850 lbs but I plan on changing the oil before I head up the Al-can just to be safe and make sure any break-in metal shavings are free and clear.
I can definitely sympathize with that! This will be my 8th trip up the Alcan. As a kid my Dad always bought his vehicles from Dave Smith Motors in ID or got some crazy craigslist deal and we would fly out and team-drive back up. The thing is, i've never taken less than 53 hours from the WA border into Canada- till we hit the driveway at home in Soldotna, AK. The last trip I took was driving back from college in Denver, he flew down and we drove up in 2.5 days. Needless to say, this trip will be different. We have a full month off work, and we are stoked to actually explore along the way.
Nope, and so happy! I definitely don't think we would be able to last 7500 miles with a young kid. Along the drive, we will be in Denver on our 2nd year anniversary where we met at college. We vowed to never own a mini van before we got married and in my opinion this is an excellent solution to "future family planning". It's her dream vehicle (which I also love) and it has room for both kids and snowboards in the back seat!
Thanks for the warm welcome all. Can't wait! We fly out this sunday down to her parents house in PA and then will be on the road from 5/12 - 6/4. It sucks to have a key to a brand new vehicle that is 7000 miles away that you can't drive! I'll keep you posted along the trip... :D
