  1. Yeah, we went to CF to test drive an Explorer and I even prefaced "we are here just to test drive, not in a position to buy today, had a '97 Exploder years ago, getting rid of the current van and wanted to check out the new Explorers'...2 hours later...of course that was partly my fault as I let them give me an estimate on the wife's van (it'll only take 15 minutes, he said); started out with an offer of $6300 and before i left they said they could probably go up to $7k, maybe more...glad I did as now I have something to negotiate with later this week. I think the husband of a lady I used to work with is still in the CF service dept. He's a super-nice man; initials DB.
  2. So you prefer Cherokee Ford for service? That's my neck of the woods... Thankfully, I haven't had to use them much, but yes, a very positive experience when I have. They gave me a Mustang convertible once for a loaner...
  3. Any Edge and 2013 Explorer owners out here? We're about to do our part to help stimulate the economy and trade the wife's '04 Sienna in on one. XLT FWD 3.5, Equip Grp 202A, with BAMR, tow package, VA Nav, and power lift gate. Sterling Gray with light stone leather. We test drove one and really like it. Hoping to take delivery next week; it's currently on the carrier and scheduled for delivery on Monday! I'm interested in hearing any owner impressions. This will also throw us in the world of SYNC...(My Edge is pre-SYNC so I never had to deal with that).
  4. I can actually attest to the stability of an extended run in excess of 100 mph in my '07 Edge. On the entire stretch of I-16 from Savannah to Macon I pushed it up to the 111 MPH max numerous times and held it on several occasions at or above 100 for a while. Never did I feel like it was unstable or loose.
  5. I can only speak to my experience. You can search this forum and find some disheartening occurrences. For me, original owner of a 2007, 110k+ miles, light duty towing on occassions using a 1k# max capacity utility trailer and mine seems to be holding up fine. When not towing I'm a fairly aggressive driver so I'm probably harder on it than most, typically drive in around town conditions with the O/D off. I was experiencing some 6th gear flutter at speeds from 45-80 mph and had the tranny serviced; it went away for a while but has returned though not as frequent, generally from 45-60 so I just leave the O/D off unless I'm cruising at speeds above 60.
  6. If you are only towing occasionally and short distances, you can probably get by with just a hitch.
  7. This is from my 2007 manual: 6. Recirculated air: Press to activate/deactive air recirculation in the vehicle. Recirculated air may reduce the amount of time needed to cool down the interior of the vehicle and may also help reduce undesired odors from reaching the interior of the vehicle. Recirculation can be engaged manually in any airflow selection except defrost. Recirculation may turn off automatically in some airflow modes to reduce fog potential. I'm guessing your 2013 will have something similar. I've noticed it's only in the cooler months running the heat that it disengages. When I have the AC on during the warmer months, it seems to stay engaged. It is one of the small nuances that I've learned to deal with. I find myself glancing down every so often to see if its turned itself off and hitting the button if it did. I'm pre-sync, so I have buttons and the other thing that would have been nice is for the buttons for recirc and AC to be in the same order as the display; the AC icon is right of the recirc, but the AC button is left of the recirc...(just one of my OCD issues).
  8. No, it's fixed, but you probably figured that out by now... Could you use the anchor point in the fold of the seat?
  9. I had the passenger side accordion style piece just fall out one day as I opened the roof. I was able to get it back in myself and it hasn't popped back out as of yet. Warranty was long gone so going to the dealer was not going to happen unless I just couldn't figure it out myself. There is a slight tab or indentation, IIRC, in the track it sits in; you may want to look closer at that and make sure yours is seated properly.
  10. I don't have or know where to find any of the specifics you are looking for, but i have a hunch that there are 4 speaker outputs rated at 25w and a line out that feeds the sub amp (so 5 outputs in all). Here is a link that has pictures of the OEM door speakers that lead me to that hunch: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/11892-2008-limited-audio-questions/ You might could pull the head unit to see if any of those stats are on it.
  11. It's more of a sealed plate speaker with a 4" mid and 1" tweeter; 4 ohms and rated at 25 watts
  12. I'll post a pic of The OEMs shortly and that should clear up any confusion.
  13. There are 2 in each door plus the sub in the back. Each door houses what appears to be about a 4-4.5 inch midbass and a separate tweeter (that's 8 of your 9). My guess is the Kickers will sound better just as the JBLs do to me. The JBLs have a pivoting tweeter that allows some adjustment to the direction of the highs, but with the design of the door panel and how it protrudes out near the speaker grill opening, a component setup with tweeters you can mount elsewhere would achieve the best sound. It was definitely worth it to me to make the swap. It's not high fidelity, but for $125 it's a definite improvement over the the dated OEMs.
  14. I can only answer your first question with confidence with a 'yes' as my '07 had the same speaker setup you have. I just replaced all door speakers with the JBL GTO 6x8s that were recently recommend by someone on this forum ($51/pair). I do not have the nav unit but I'm sure the overall head unit guts are the same. The sound is much more balanced with crisper highs, fuller midrange, and tighter, punchy-er mid bass. I was pleasantly surprised. They dropped right in the factory openings and I used the adapters that allow you to keep the ford plugs. I also do know the sub has its own amp mounted near its box. I have no clue as to wattage of the head unit or sub amp, but its plenty for my replacements which are actually louder as well as cleaner than the originals. Hope that helps!
  15. From the Owner's Manual: FUEL FILTER Your vehicle is equipped with a lifetime fuel filter that is integrated with the fuel tank. Regular maintenance or replacement is not needed.
  16. Ran across this while looking for a table for the home office and I knew akirby would totally appreciate this: http://mlaoffice.com/brakeroomtables.aspx
  17. I'll try to get a good look tomorrow as I head into the sun during my morning commute. I also wear polarized sunglasses which may be reducing what I notice as well, but I will try to report back tomorrow. Oh, and if Dingo recommends it, it has to be worthy of checking out...
  18. Wow, that does look very clean! And I must say, you couldn't have found a better color! Except for the interior, I really like my black interior. My '07 is about to turn 105k miles and is almost as clean as yours.
  19. I haven't noticed any severe scratches, but I do recall seeing, in certain angles of sunlight, some streaks that follow the wiper path after a recent wash. As for the wipers, I also bought the rain-x wiper blades; this is my second set and I also had an issue with one of them not clicking in place (the first set were fine so I figured it was just this one blade). Right side clicked in fine, but the left just wouldn't click, as hard as I tried, nothing. I put it on anyway and laid it down on the windshield and tried to see if it would slide off by sliding it toward the open end of the hook, and it wouldn't, and hasn't yet, and doesn't appear that it will as long as the arm remains against the windshield.
  20. You might want to check out the Toyo Open Country H/T as well in the OEM size. I'm on my second set; rides great, good wet weather traction but I have no experience in snow.
  21. Depending on the grade of 'descend', you don't even have to touch the 'breaks', it will downshift on its own...calm down akirby...
  22. Ain't that the truth! I'm feeling pretty good about my ~17 mpg...
  23. Just an additional note RE: "L": if you put it L from a stop and just give it a little bit of gas, you'll never get out of first gear until you open up the throttle. If you give it full throttle and hold it, it will run up near redline and then shift while in L up the gears until it gets to 5th (I believe). Mike, are you smoking those 22s in your "launch mode"? It most certainly will smoke the 18s.
  24. I thought the "L" was launch mode... OP: I turn OD off all the time because I like the way it shifts better than when it's on.
