  1. Good guys indeed. Mighty Muf'ler in Phoenix has been serving car enthusiasts for about 40 years, and they do nice work (and they're only 5 minutes from my house). The cats are bolted to the exhaust manifolds and have large outlet flanges; MM's owner Greg says they appear to be quite hi-flow. The kinks and obstructions start with the flange of the collector pipe bolted to the cats; that's why Greg cut it off. The sound is quite attractive--NOT sharp as from FlowMasters but also not unattractively V6-ish either*. Maybe I can get my son to help with a sound clip; I'll try. * I now wonder if the V6 sound I don't like is the result of dual exhausts on them.
  2. Probably both, but I didn't want to keep all that crimped original pipe. My complete system cost about the same as the Gibson stainless-steel system, something less than $700, and I finished with what I believe is a significantly higher-flow system, FWIW. Of course, the problem with these kinds of big changes is one doesn't quite know what one will end up with. Also of course, one doesn't know what the Gibson or Magnaflow system will sound like until AFTER one spends maybe $800 buying and installing it. BTW, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo exhaust-system modification* is the only one of many over the decades that was highly succesful the FIRST time. Several others had to be changed after the first system replacement, so this one doesn't surprise me a bit. * I simply removed the muffler and replaced it with 2-1/2" pipes feeding the stock tips. http://rides.webshots.com/album/90671822hc...leActions/Album
  3. I think not, but I'd like to lower it a little, maybe 3/4 - 1". No, and I think those that do write about noticing better performance from these kinds of things are responding merely to the knowledge of the changes and not to any real perceived change...or their sensibilities are LOTS better tuned than mine.
  4. Well, here's what it looks like tonite with the new tires and wheels. I LOVE it! Oh yes...new exhaust-system tips. These larger, oval-shape tips fill the opening in the rear valence much better than the round Fords did.
  5. Had the entire exhaust system, starting before the first flange, replaced today. Used 2-1/2" aluminized pipe, mandrel bent, with no front muffler and 2 Magnaflow #11226 mufflers at the rear. It sounds quite nice, audible but not too loud, but it does drone a bit in 6th gear at 1300-1600RPM, and I may have that fixed. Have posted lots of pics at http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k220/jef...haust%20system/ ; start with the last and go backwards. Here's the most-visible part.
  6. svofan1: "Are you sure about this rim?..shape and color?" ABSOLUTELY! They look even better in pairs. "I am sorry but I don't think it does anything for your beatiful EDGE...but forgive me wheels are like evrything else, a matter of taste" You're so correct that each of us responds differently to the appearance of cars and wheels. You're welcome to your opinion and its expression. "enjoy them in good healt(h)" TYVM. I managed, with the help of my VERY good friend/mechanic, to get all these mounted today. Tomorrow I'll snap some pics and post them.
  7. rboe, I live around 6th Ave. and Butler. E-mail me at jeffreybehr(at)cox(dot)net if you'd like to meet and compare, etc.. The rest of the wheels and tires arrive tomorrow, but I imagine with the fooling with TPMs it'll take me a few days to get them on. Thursday morning I'll be at Mighty Muf'ler on Cave Creek Rd. getting a new exhaust system. If you're loose, drop by about 9:30AM. I think I'll be replacing all the intermediate pipe with 2-1/2" stuff and going with 2 small hi-flow mufflers at the rear, at least initially. But I'm sort of perched on a knife edge here--I know it'll never sound like a powerful V8 like my Cayenne, and generally I do NOT like the sounds of loud V6s, but it has to have some exhaust noise for me!
  8. aussie, did you ever receive and install these? Baer Brakes' owner Hal Baer is a buddy, but they're behind about 6 months in development work, so there'll be nothing coming from them for maybe a year. Before I measured mine, I thought the front rotors were about 11"ers (and they look like about 10"ers under 20" wheels  ), but they're actually 12-1/2s, which is not bad at all. (Haven't measured the rears.) If anyone is looking for SOTA brakes pads--that is, pads that produce virtually no dust, have high friction cold AND hot, and have excellent 'feel'--contact Porterfield http://www.porterfield-brakes.com/ for their R4-S pads... http://www.porterfield-brakes.com/pads.html . I've been using the R4s since about 1990. They're more expensive than original-type pads but well worth it. I guess I"ll wait for some 14"ers; the brakes of my Cayenne Turbo spoiled me--13.8" fronts with 6-piston calipers and 13" rears with 4s, under 20" wheels.
  9. Mine is now 5 days old. I live in Phoenix where it gets HOT, as in well over 100d.F. every day for 5 months of summer, and in June thru Aug., into the hundred-and-teens about every day. A few Edges I drove at dealers seemed not to work very well, but I'm quite satisfied with my AC's performance. I agree with those commenting about the cold-air vents--they may be big, but they're not very directional.
  10. Jill, want to sell your original SW system?
  11. Well, I bought my Edge home Friday, so here it is. Fits just finely. Looks great too. The rest of them are on the way. Here's what it looks like today.
  12. edge22", WHERE ARE YOU? Lots of us would LOVE to see pics of your grille and a SOURCE for it. PLEASE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
  13. boatcop1, first, TYVM for serving. Second, go here http://www86.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/F...amp;sBrand=Ford and build one. If you stay away from the expensive options, you should be able to build one for less than $30K and might even get AWD. Good luck.
  14. Arrived today with the new Edge, from Portland. Have posted some pics; http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?aut...=si&img=436 Here's a sample.
  15. From the album: Copper Edge in Phoenix

A good view of the original and replacement tires/wheels. The latter are 20X9" ASA JH8s. The tires are 275/45-20 General Grabber UHPs that are the same diameter as the original 245/60-18s. Three more are coming; all are from Tire Rack. Haven't done anything with tire-pressure-monitoring sensors.
  16. Here's a book of wiring diagrams, for sale. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-FORD-E...sspagenameZWDVW If you buy and use it and want to sell it, let me know at jeffreybehr(at)cox(dot)net.
  17. Hmm...hadn't thought of that. Actually, that's a 67" Samsung-brand, DLP-type RPTV that I LOVE the looks of. It's fed by a Toshiba HD-XA2 HD DVD player, and movies on HD DVD look better than in theaters.
  18. I finally found an Edge that meets my requirements in Beaverton, Oregon, just w. of Portland. My son and I are flying up tomorrow morn. to bring it home. I has all the options I wanted but for the 9-speaker sound system (it has the 4-...) and the rear-cargo-management system. As importantly, it has only one option I didn't want, the 18" plastic-chrome wheels. Oh well...THOSE will be off soon! I'll be replacing (if they'll fit!) the four 57-cent door speakers with some VERY-high-quality 6-1/2" Sonic Craft drivers that I've used in the 3 front channels of my high-end multichannel-audio/home-theater system. and ...and he'll install tweeters in the instrument panel so the orchestras sound as if they're in front of me and not down around my knees. I can hardly wait. Oh yes...SEL+, AWD, Copper and Camel, without navigation or rear-DVD systems, BAMR, or SIRIUS.
  19. Well, since you asked...I think the wheels are hideous, a term someone else used. Personally I HATE chromed, light-alloy wheels, but I'm simply the wrong generation, one that doesn't like ugly music and garish wheels. The tires look too small for the wheels and the car; what size are they? Here's what I'm putting on mine. ASA brand, 20X9, 275/45-20 tires, same diameter as the Edge-optional 18s. Probably you can understand why I don't like your dealer's choice. Here's another forum member's Edge with 275/45-20 tires, this time Hankook RH06s. I think it's the right size. I'm sorry that I can't remember the member's name; perhaps he/she will let us know?
  20. 07 MKX: " Because you can't wait for one to be built like you want, did you just accept that Porsche from the dealer like it was equipped?" I choose NOT to wait now. I ordered my CT in the summer of '03; there weren't any I wanted in dealers' lots. Mine is the 1st CT that Porsche North Scottsdale was able to order without a moonroof. BTW I found the Forddirect site to be very helpful and easy enough to negotiate. Also, I discovered this morning that Ford corporate has a search system that would have saved me about 9 hours. Christa was VERY helpful...800/334-4375. Unfortunately that system doesn't allow the exclusion of the rear-DVD system, so the several additional candidates she found turned out to be not candidates.
  21. Because I can't order an '07 any more and I don't want to wait until late Sep. for an '08.
  22. After days of deliberating on color--picked Blazing Copper over Red Fire--and about 10 hours over 2 days on Ford's site searching dealers' inventories, I found almost indentical twins in Ogden, UT and Colorado Springs, CO* and have requested price quotes. When one simply wants the right color, there are lots from which to choose, locally. But when one is as fussy as I am and simply wouldn't own the car if it had the BAMR and rear-DVD entertainment system, one has to look ALL over. I looked in 46 states, I believe. SEL+, AWD, Copper, Camel, class-2 tow, 9-speaker sound system, rear cargo, reverse sensing, and NO navigation system are my preferences. I found the twins so equipped but also with SIRIUS radio and chromed-plastic 18" wheels. I think I can be rid of the $750 wheel option. We'll see if I own an Edge in a few days. * Either is about 800 miles from Phoenix.
  23. Grandpa, that's about the same as saying all those vehicles have to be the same color because they're built at the same factory. Mercury has historically added more insulation in their versions than the Fords use. The info you refer to surprises me not at all.
  24. The black-and-aluminum door bottoms match the black-and-aluminum running boards.
  25. I'm surprised I've not seen that here already. My Porsche Cayenne Turbo with off-pavement package arrived with black lower panels and looked so not-good I had them painted. It looks MUCH better that way. ------------------------------------------------------- Have finally found 3 Edges across the country that meet my requirements. Two are fairly close to Phoenix--Reno, NV and Ogden, UT--and one's in Kentucky. As soon as I get a deposit on my Cayenne, I'll buy the one in Ogden, if it's still there.
