Add nav to a 2011 with myford touch?
martcouz replied to tknice's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Wow! So the only requirement would be to download/install another software version? 5-6 hours seems awfully long for a download! Are you sure no hardware addition/modification is required? thanks for keeping us updated as you go along! -

Wow, that would be such a great news if it turns out. If they ever manage to achieve this, I would be very interested in knowing who's your dealer. -

Thanks for rubbing it in for the rest of us! I guess it's right to say that if Ford doesn't give the dealer the right to install the Nav, a couple of people will feel sorry for not taking the option from the start... starting with me! But I still find it very hard to believe that from a business perspective, Ford is making a good decision. Eventually, some people will regret not taking Nav, and second hand buyers may also want to install it. Why would they prevent themselves from 795$ (for an option cost of maybe 50$!) ??? It doesn't male sense..... On another topic, any chance another retailer could install a home-application that would use the already installeg GPS module to setup the nav, a bit like they do for after market DVDs for half the price? Seems like there's not much missing to make it work. I'm kind of loosing faith, but still hoping good news will come .... -

Sorry, compass screen is not the right word. I said compass because that's what it's called on the smaller LCD screen in dash. Indeed, mine says apps /uploads also ... -
Add nav to a 2011 with myford touch?

I noticed something for the first time yesterday. When I have the 4 screens layed out and I clic on the "compass screen" (top right), it gets me to the "Where Am I" screen. Although that screen does not show me where I am on a map, it actually shows my Latitude, Longitude and Altitude (data changes along the way). To me, that proves without a doubt that the GPS module is actually in the car and up & running, which contradicts another dealer who told me otherwise! Thus, activating the maps should normally only be a question of a simple procedure or software installation at worst. I'm convinced that no material add-on is required. This being said, I'm still blown away by Ford Canada who states there is no way to activate the GPS function at the dealer ... time will tell. At worst, I hope someone will have the brilliant idea of building an application that will use the car's (or phone) GPS with Google maps, or something like that. -

I have ordered my MKX about 3 months ago and have been driving it for 2 months. After my salesman told me it would be possible to add the GPS unit after the fact (Circuit Ford in Montreal), he finally admitted today that it doesn't seem like it will be possible to do at all ... He forwarded me an email from Sarah J. McGrath (Marketing Plans Manager of Ford Canada): "Unfortunately the answer to this is no...you have to order the navigation system as an option from the factory...the nav module cannot be installed after the fact. " I'm sure you can understand that I am quite pissed to hear this. First of all, coming from the dealer, you kind of expect it to be right !!!! And second of all, how come it took 3 months to get the final answer ??? Looks like I wont be having a GPS in my car until at least 4 years .... This is the last time I take the word of a dealer for granted. -
On the MFT, I noticed an area to "Install Updates and Applications". I believe at some point it will be possible to download applications for use directly in the car. Any ideas what these applications will be? How will it be capable of downloading, installing and running without a hard drive in the car? And will the applications be available only from the Ford website, or will software will be available for just about any developper (like applications on the iPhone) ?? I'm guessing there's a whole bunch of cool things that could be done when combining an 8" screen, a GPS, internet, and car features. Just curious to wee what they could be. So many questions with this system ... !

MyFord Touch Software Update G2 V1.1
martcouz replied to sboots88's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Great news (at least, I hope!). Just went to the website and noticed the same thing, although I have to admit that I flipped when I saw that "Dealer service fee may apply" ! Wow, wouldn't that be something. I hope the guys at the service desk are ready to hear alot of crap if they are going to charge me for this !!! BT4T-14D544-BD Version SYNC GEN 2 + Dealer Install (Requires a visit to your local dealership. Dealer service fee may apply.) -
Just switched to winter tires and decided not to mount the TPMS on them. I'm getting the error message every time I start the car, and YES, it is anoying !!! Any way I can remove this error message permanently, even if it requires to deactivate the TPMS altogether? thanks !

Wilson, your post made my day !! Not for taking pleasure in mishaps of others, but the way you told your story! Hahah! Sorry to hear that though ... Hate to bring this up, but would we be having this conversation if Apple would have developped the MFT system?? I dream of a car where the touch screen is as responsive as the iPhone !! Wow, what a car that would be !! Doesn't all this remind anyone of GM's CEO's response to Bill Gate's comments a few years back? Ouch !! Feels like the time has come..... Here's a little reminder of the story: At a computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated: "If GM had kept up with the technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon." In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release (by Mr. Welch himself) stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics: 1. For no reason at all, your car would crash twice a day. 2. Every time they repainted the lines on the road, you would have to buy a new car. 3. Occasionally, executing a manoeuver such as a left-turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, and you would have to reinstall the engine. 4. When your car died on the freeway for no reason, you would just accept this, restart and drive on. 5. Only one person at a time could use the car, unless you bought 'Car95' or 'CarNT', and then added more seats. 6. Apple would make a car powered by the sun, reliable, five times as fast, and twice as easy to drive, but would run on only five per cent of the roads. 7. Oil, water temperature and alternator warning lights would be replaced by a single 'general car default' warning light. 8. New seats would force every-one to have the same size butt. 9. The airbag would say 'Are you sure?' before going off. 10. Occasionally, for no reason, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key, and grabbed the radio antenna. 11. GM would require all car buyers to also purchase a deluxe set of road maps from Rand-McNally (a subsidiary of GM), even though they neither need them nor want them. Trying to delete this option would immediately cause the car's performance to diminish by 50 per cent or more. Moreover, GM would become a target for investigation by the Justice Department. 12. Every time GM introduced a new model, car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car. 13. You would press the 'start' button to shut off the engine.

Hey Frank, As of yet, I got 2 completely different opinions from 2 different salemen (in different dealeships)! The first guy told me that if I didn't pay for the GPS right off the bat, there was no way for me to install it afterwards. He said that the "GPS module" wass not pre-installed. I got into quite an argument with him as I believe this to be B-S! The second dealership said: "Sure, just get your car in here, pay the 700$ and we'll give you the SD card and it's "plug and play". Ouch! Not sure of that either! I'm still waiting for him to get an SD card and give me a call. He will probably figure out that it's not that simple, but by the time he figures out the instructions to get the SD card to work, I will ask him to charge me to get the one I have to work.... we'll see where that goes! Someone on another topic mentions that the instructions to update the maps may come in a few months. So I'm hoping that in worse case, I will be able to get the GPS to work then... Still not a resolved issue ...

I have no clue what SOL means. But thanks for reminding me why I stopped posting on forums. I got tired of people using attitude for no reason.......

The purchase I made from ebay is 100% legitimate. The SD card I purchased is the original card that came with some other guy's Ford Edge. He even sent it with the original packaging. Maybe he made himself a copy, but the only thing I know for sure is that I have the original. I doubt I will not get this piece to work. The dealer actually told me that I could get the SD on the after market for cheaper than 700$, but to get it to work, I had to get the THX sound system. Why? Not sure... but there seems to be many different versions out there. I will go to the dealer next week to figure this all out and post back with answers.

Same issue with my MKX. I got the car last Friday and there seems to be an issue with both the USB and the SD card. When plugging any USB stick in, it will pop a message telling me my device is not supported. The weird thing is that the USB actually works (I am able to play my .mp3)... As for the SD card, it showed no sign of life at all! I plugged in the GPS maps data and nothing showed up on screen (not even an error message). I purchased the SD card aftermarket from a guy on ebay, so it wasn't sold directly from the dealer. I still think it should be working right off the bat without doing any config, but all I see now on SYNC is the compass. Is there something I should be doing to activate the NAV or SD card? I tried resetting the fuse #29, but that didn't work. I also tried doing the update from the USB stick, but since it doesn't recognize it, I believe that the process ends there... Any clues on my next options?
