MOFSTEEL
Hey all. I'm looking for some 20"chrome or silver wheels to replace the God awful plastic chrome sh**, also some sleek runing boards. Does anyoneknow if the Lincoln grill fits the Edge? thanks, Barry The chrome clad wheels are actually better than real chrome. They won't pit and peel like real chrome so they'll last longer. Also the real chrome with expand and contract do to changes in temperature which could lead to the loss of air pressure and even flat tires. This is the reason I chose to go with the chrome clad wheels. If by some reason I choose to change my wheels I will definitely not be buying chrome. Silver is a great option for any color Edge. Westin does make running boards for the 07-09 but im not sure if it will fit the 2010's. My guess is they should. As far as the grille I have no idea if the Lincoln one fits but Ford does have several different colors optioned for the stock grille. Look here. http://www.fordaccessoriesstore.com/GfaWeb...10~9T4Z_8200_AE Personally i'd like to see what the Tuxedo black grille looks like. "Plastic painted like chrome will last longer than real chrome." I'm not biased either, I'm changing out the real chrome wheels my car came with for some polished aluminum... Chrome clad has some benefits, like fuel economy and it eats up less brakes. But not the stuff you're talking about.
feelin edgy
In theory, the chrome clad wheels should be better than an actual chromed steel wheel. Unfortunately, ford did not apply the theory very well. I will keep having Ford replacing the 20" chrome clad wheels that bubble and flake until my warranty expires, and then I will buy something else. I don't see how it's crazy when corrosion on the inside of the wheel from the chrome could cause a poor seal and lead to loss in air pressure and flat tires. Also if you live where there is snow there will be a greater chance that the salt used on the roads will cause premature pitting and corrosion on a chrome wheel. I guess facts are crazy. Agree, chrome clad... much better....just wander how they withstand the snow and salt here in Ontario....

Maybe you missed my post, but the fact of the matter is, Ford has done a terrible job with these chrome clad wheels. They are prone to bubbling and flacking of the chrome, as well as a brassing defect near the hubs.

I'd rather have aesthetic damage then having to worry about loss in tire pressure and blow outs.
Lex Talionis
to confirm, those that think the chrome clad are better need to do some research here... Ford has had a lot of problems with the chrome clad rims peeling and bubbling and creeking, do the research here. as for the OP.. use the search here as you will find some topics and links to running boards as it has been talked about here also. feelin edgy
MOS, I am just trying to point out that while the impact of a tire going flat vs an appearence issue is much more serious with the flat, the likelyhood of the tire going flat is very small vs the chrome flaking off of the chrome clads. MOFSTEEL
So buy yourself some chrome wheels then. Both points are valid so is there really a need to argue about whether real chrome or clad chrome is worse? Get over it.
feelin edgy
Again, maybe you didn't read my original post. Once my warranty is up and ford will no longer replace the defective chrome clad wheels, I will be buying something else.
MOFSTEEL
Why dont you go buy them now so I can stop not reading your posts about peeling clad wheels and start reading your posts about corroding chrome wheels that constantly lose air pressure. I'm looking forward to them. Edited October 13, 2009 by MOFSTEEL

MOFSTEEL
Do you always post like a jerk when you start out on a new forum? Welcome aboard. Funny I was just thinking... what's with the condescending Edge owners? I had to double check my URL because I thought I might have typed in BimmerForums.com instead. feelin edgy
I think you are mistaking condescending for experienced. Many of us have had our fill of the chrome clad wheel saga that Ford has been spinning. When you come here without even having driven your new edge and tell us how much better the chrome clad wheels are than real chrome wheels, it hurts your credibility. MOFSTEEL
It is more so a matter of opinion. I have zero experience with Ford's chrome clad but I do have experience with real chrome, polished, GM chrome clad, and Chrysler chrome clad. IMO aesthetic issues are not as bad as corrosion which may lead to air pressure loss. You might want corroding metal over peeling plastic. That's fine. I just think the plastic is the lessor of the two evils. IMO Ford needs to find an alternative so buyers don't need to deal with either. Chances are I too will be changing them out in the future for a wheel more suitable to my taste.
feelin edgy
I still think you are overblowing the hazzards true chrome wheels present. I have had wheel lip corrosion on aluminum wheels as well as chrome wheels in the past. It has always resulted in a slow leak that was cured by cleaning the inside of the wheel. I have never had a wheel go flat or blow out because of this problem.

Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen. This is my last response in this thread. I can't believe the negativity and closed-minded people in here.
