Edgeowner2007
Hi, we just bought a 2007 edge 2 weeks ago, it has 10,500 miles, my wife and I both noticed that the distance that the brake pedal has to be pushed down before the brakes are actually applied is greater than what we would call normal, also the when going 40 mph and above and you apply more pressure to the brake pedal it feels like warped rotors did on our old car that had over 100,000 miles on it. what's the deal with the Ford Edge Brakes, I have read other Forums where owner's are complaining of grinding noise ( which I do hear on ours especially when it first starting out after it has been sitting several hours ) the pedal travel should be better, if I pump the brakes once or twice then the pedal travel is shorter and the pedal feels like that's were is should be. ANY COMMENTS? Thanks Edgeowner2007
bulldog
comments? yes. the brakes suck. wait til you have to panic stop (hopefully you won't) then you'll see that they really really suck. there's a thread somewhere on here about some EBC pads. i'll wait til mine are due for a change before i change them out for aftermarket. Also, some have changed the lines i believe. i'm thinking on the pads i may give the NAPA brand a try. hopefully that's not the ones that come stock from factory. i've learned to not follow as close i used to, and my wife also helps out. they're STOPPING!!!!! on a plus side, i still think it's a very good looking vehicle, and rides nice. ANY COMMENTS? Thanks Edgeowner2007 Hi Edgeowner2007. :D Comments? Well, you purchased a used vehicle. Did you purchase it from a Dealer or a private individual? Was it a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) vehicle? Did it come with any sort of Dealer Warranty? Have you expressed your concerns about the brakes to the Dealer? Have you checked the brake fluid level? Have you checked the condition of the brake pads, or had the Dealer check them? Have you checked the condition of the rotors or had the Dealer check them? You purchased a used vehicle, so it is entirely possible the brakes were abused by the previous owner/owners, or there could be some other sort of defect that needs correction. Your concerns about the brakes should be expressed to the Dealer so they can check for any problems. Good luck. :beerchug: Edited December 22, 2008 by bbf2530
ablb
10k on the brakes doesn't sound like much BUT a friend has to replace his wife's pads EVERY year and the rotors every other year. And he buys bulbs by the dozen If pumping the pedal does help you may have air in the system, try to keep something soft in front of you till you get it back to the seller. Good luck ab

stordi
The brakes suck on my 08 MKX also. I was on my way to my local BMW dealer today (hopefully get rid of this p.o.s.) and almost wet myself when I hit the brakes and they didn't respond properly. Way to go Ford engineering! YOU SUCK! ablb
The brakes suck on my 08 MKX also. I was on my way to my local BMW dealer today (hopefully get rid of this p.o.s.) and almost wet myself when I hit the brakes and they didn't respond properly. Way to go Ford engineering! YOU SUCK! We traded UP :D from an 04 X3i and really liked it. We found the BMW not very quick but it handled and stopped almost as good as a 325. We also found the premium fuel a pain at the pump. I highly recommend you check a new X3 the new motor really wakes up the X3. BUT you won't be getting those BMW looks, most people don't know an X3 from a Santa Fe. One other thing: The MKX hasn't had any warranty work in 7 months and 15k miles, we couldn't say that about the BMW. We finally figured out that. "I have to take the Bimmer, Caddy, Mercedes in"... is a social statement. ab
